This morning you should have woken to the news that after eight years of not really achieving much the First Minister had resigned. In the same article you should have also been informed that the Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain had been fired for incompetence. Sadly, for Scotland this is not the case and our nation has to struggle on with these two millstones wrapped around our neck. One doesn’t want independence, and the other doesn’t have a clue how to make independence happen.
What you are sadly waking up to today is far more sinister. A court in the imperial capital of London has deemed that Scotland is not allowed to decide its own form of governance. At the same time they were also TELLING us Scotland is not a colony! If ever there was contradictory statements it is these!
Now the only way Scotland can ever hold an independence referendum is if a Parliament in another country overwhelmingly populated with nationals of another country deems it acceptable! We should also add that without Scotland’s natural resources and taxes this parasitical other country will not survive economically. Therefore, the likelihood of English MPs ever agreeing to a Scottish referendum is now less than nil.
On social media the unionists are in joyous mood. They mistakenly believe this ends forever the desire of Scots to be a normal independent nation instead of a colony of Greater England. These same people will in the coming weeks and months become very disheartened when they see this has the exact opposite effect they were hoping for.
The shout went up, Scotland is not a colony, the majority English judges and one Scottish judge said so! We all know the famous quip about the two biggest lies in the world, Now we can add a third. The first is, the cheque is in the post. The second you all know. The third, Scotland is not a colony!
My good friend Mark McNaught summed it up perfectly. The unionists even the ones with letters after their name have been unable to answer this excellent summary of our situation.
Many, like myself are actually happy that a referendum has been denied. Those of you that follow my blogs and podcasts know I have always been opposed to a second referendum. Especially when it was likely, we would use the Local Authority Voters roll. I am as certain as I can be we would have lost any referendum using that roll.
I have opined many times my preferred route to freedom. Recall all Scottish MPs from Westminster. Convene a Constitutional Convention with MPs, MSPs, leaders of the Local Authority Councils, Civic Scotland, the Scottish Trade Unions. Then let them devise a plan to retake our independence.This could happen immediately. All it takes is for the First Minister to make the announcement.
Yes, I hear your sighs of resignation from here! The same person who made the huge tactical error of begging the English dominated Supreme Court in the first place. Her lack of political nous is the biggest obstacle to Scotland’s independence. She just seems incapable of thinking strategically. It all seems for the moment. Hence her preponderance to jump on bandwagons. Her favourite phrase “I can announce today, something I will forget about tomorrow.”These all tell a tale.
She does not see the urgency, despite what happened yesterday in England. She has said sometime next year she will call a ‘Special SNP Conference’ in the new year to discuss and agree the detail of a proposed de facto referendum!’
There is so much that is appalling in this speech. Firstly the Scottish people are suffering now they need action and hope immediately! You, First Minister may be able to wait, the Scottish nation needs help now! When exactly next year were you thinking about? January, March, October? We know you are in no hurry.
It begs the question why after eight years as leader does she not have ready to go alternatives and plans? She has forbidden discussions on Plan B at last 4 SNP Conferences. Did none of her advisors think it wise to suggest to her the likely outcome of taking a referendum to London to be sanctioned by a court dominated by English judges? Did they not impress upon her that she should have a ready made alternative plan for any such outcomes?
Why is it only now she thinks perhaps we should have a wee chat about what we do next? Now she has screwed up again, she is looking to others to take charge of her mistakes.
A defacto referendum? Another open goal for the unionists to swat away. They will boycott it, undermine it, destroy it before it is even held. You need to have the best strategists in the nation formulate a plan to take us forward. The wasting of all those mandates, the missed opportunities show that you and your advisors are not up to the task of gaining Scotland its freedom!
Call the Convention then stand aside and let those that know how to advance our cause formulate a roadmap for you to follow. You can get the glory we will even let you pretend it was all your idea. Just keep out the way and allow others to get on with Scottish independence.
Better still just resign?
The majority of the speeches at Holyrood yesterday were to the point and well received and the event finished with a great rendition of the “Freedom Come All Ye” by Donella MacLennan & Lesley Riddoch complete with pipers. If ever a song summed up the situation and national and international aspirations of Scotland at this time then this is the one.
However – I was frankly disgusted by the speech given by Nicola Sturgeon, no she didn’t apologise for her abject failure to the gathered Yessers, she had the gall, as I read it, to essentially attempt to appropriate the YES campaign for the SNP. Even more worrying was the uncritical applause at the end of the speech from the sheeple present. I heckled I have to admit, shouting “Resign” about 20 times at the top of my voice, I did have a slight difference of opinion with someone nearby who was telling me to be quiet. I think the irony escaped him.
So beware, the SNP – and Tommy Shepherd also gave a few hints on this buried inside a rousing effort – that the SNP are about to attempt to hijack the grassroots movement – and we already know where that will lead.

So it’s now a special SNP Conference following her government’s latest defeat at the hands of the British Supreme Court.
The First minister may well consider the SNP her personal fiefdom but the independence of our country is far too important to leave in her hands if, as it appears she considers that only the SNP membership have rights to discuss future strategy.
Make up your mind Ms Sturgeon, you’re either with the people or agin them but we will have our independence. We will not be led up any more garden paths only a Scottish Constitutional Convention will do.

When Nicola Sturgeon went to a London Court for judgement she did so in HER name. She placed HER sovereignty in its hands. Not mine.
Sturgeon needs to be made to own this debacle and failure.
She is clearly content with her status us Colonial Governess … our very own 21st century Toom Tabard.
Why do we need the SG/SNP to call the convention? Can the rest of us who are remotely interested in Independence not just get together and do this. Politicians (alone) and especially career ones like we have installed in the colonial office and on the benches of the english parliament are never going to make this happen. Let the SNP know that if they don’t get onboard – and quickly – then the bus is leaving without them. As for NS, she obviously doesn’t have a clue what to do, or if she has a cunning plan it is a brit state one and well executed so far. She should of course resign and take her woke cabal with her.
The simple reality is that Scotland is part of the unitary state of the UK and bound by its rules; rules we voted overwhelmingly to remain bound by just a few years ago. Until the vast majority of people in Scotland (and by vast majority I mean 70% plus – anything less is too weak a threshold) change their minds and decide they do want to leave the UK, nothing will change. That means the Indy movement actually has to do some serious persuading, something they’ve shown to be largely incapable of, and actually answer the serious questions (ie what the currency would be, how we’d replace the annual public spending subsidy from the UK). Scotland’s economy is tiny and largely reliant on the UK. That’s why most fiscally literate Scots continue to reject the economic suicide that independence would bring.
Still, the Indy movement could at least try the persuasion route rather than the childish grievance route.
I won’t hold my breath, however…

She has squandered Scotland’s opportunities to be a different country, to pursue policies that would enable Scotland’s economy to grow and seems as wilfully blind to Scotland’s potential as you appear to be. Get E-mailing your SNP MSP or Green MSP if you have one and explain in the E-Mail why we need Nicola Sturgeon to resign for the good of Scotland and how important it is that she does so. So that a Holyrood election will be used as a plebiscite next year and not in two year time.

The current situation is Scotland is a million miles from what the SNP want before going into a 2nd Referendum. Roddy is correct , a second Referendum would end in failure right now.

I didn’t mean to imply any different from that – I agree that another referendum would have been totally the wrong thing to do at this point. My comment was just asking the question what, given the reality of the situation, is the route to getting enough people to take independence rather than waiting for it to be given.

Roddy lets stop pretending you are in any position to judge the competence of the LA Dorothy Bain , what qualifications do you have to make that judgement ? That she is deeply embedded within the pro-union, Scottish establishment must surely carry some weight, Cathy. Her competence or otherwise, is of little interest to me.
