The first week of the general election campaign has been and gone. Have you even noticed? The panel of Lloyd Quinan, Eva Comrie and Phil Boswell discuss the situation thus far.
Usually UK General Elections have a theme. The Winter of Discontent. The Falklands War. Things can only get better. The Iraq War. The Brexit election. Get Brexit Done. Stop Brexit. This time there appears to be nothing. Nobody it seems wants this election apart from the Red Tories and Tel Aviv.
The Tories most certainly do not want an election. They know they are going to take a hammering. The losses will be so great it is likely it will take several further UK elections for them to recover. The SNP similarly does not want this election and for the same reasons as the Tories. Unlike the Tories, I am not so sure the SNP will ever recover from the coming carnage.
The British public are showing very little enthusiasm for this contest either. They are more concerned with putting food on the table and paying the rent/mortgage. Those that can are looking forward to their summer holidays and the Euro Football Championships in Germany. The upcoming Olympics and Wimbledon. Traditionally television viewing drops dramatically in the summer months. Politics is not a summer sport. It is one of the reasons Parliament closes for 2 months over summer!
People prefer their entertainment to be outside in the warmer months, picnics bbqs and day trips. So listening to politicians selling their snake oil is not the top-priority for the everyday Joe and Jenny.
It is different for us political anoraks. We live for elections. I have to admit (as I do in the podcast) I have zero enthusiasm for this particular contest beyond my two friends Eva and Sally standing as Independents for Independence candidates. I like so many of the public I have lost all faith and more importantly all trust in the Scottish Political Parties. The English registered ones I never trusted in the first place. It saddens me that today I view the Scottish parties as useless for Scotland’s cause!
They are showing in this election their party’s fortunes as always are more important to them than the fortunes of the Scottish people. A plague on all their houses I say!
One week in and the lies are tripping off the tongues. The SNP lying to the public by saying that only by voting for them can you get back into the EU. Firstly how do they know that Scotland now wants back into the EU? How would they propose to even do that if we have Freeports? The EU would not allow you entry with those, nor will they allow you entry if you are using the £Sterling. These are two SNP commitments, therefore EU membership is impossible.
The Alba Party maintain they are the only party that is campaigning for independence and defending women’s rights. Really, what about the ISP are they too not supporters of independence and women’s rights?
As to the English registered political parties it would be easier to just list the things they are not lying about. Here is that list.

The SNP does not have to actually do anything about independence now, because others are doing it for them. All the ideas and suggestions are coming from the organizations and the public. The SNP needs to be dealt the death blow, I’m sorry to say. ALBA needs to stop backing any indyref and go for broke, in partnership with SALVO/Liberation, at the Scottish elections in 2025. Never fear. SNP loyalists will cross the floor if ALBA or ISP, or both break, the stasis. If we can win in 2025, SALVO/Liberation will ensure that our case receives international recognition. However, we have to win first, in a plebiscitary election, and we can make it one without the SNP.
If every other party simply puts the same slogan on its ballot paper or somewhere in its message, if the huge working-class vote can be harnessed, we will win, with or without the SNP because it will be totally isolated and shown to be opposed to Scottish independence if it does not come on board. Trying to appeal to their better nature won’t work. Self-interest is far too embedded for that, so they have to be threatened, realistically, with annihilation. That will ring the alarm bells. People who are entirely self-interested will soon jump ship if their buttered bread is about to be withdrawn, just as people with principle jumped ship long ago. However, I believe, and have always believed, that UDI will become inescapable.
The GRRB will almost certainly be mooted again if Labour gets in, or even if the SNP makes a come-back. They, with the Greens and Lib Dems, think this is the future. Corporates rule, and the corporates are behind this. That they have miscalculated would not occur to their pampered child SPADs and researchers and backroom staff. If you have never heard the word, no, in your puff, why would you ever think you are wrong? They are, though, just as the SNP is utterly wrong on independence. Devoid of imagination and incapable of seeing past the end of their own noses.
It’s why I will be staying at home.
It’s your choice but might I suggest that it would be better to register your opinion and #RepurposeYourVote by issuing your instruction to candidates by diagonally scrawling across your ballot paper:
