I am Derek James Kerr. I am standing as an independent for independence in the Edinburgh East constituency. I have chosen that constituency because I believe I have the best chance of re-engaging the good people of Edinburgh East with their sovereignty. More importantly, I want the residents of Edinburgh East to be confident that they can put the heating on and food in their mouths without having to choose between cold or hunger.
Those who don’t have to worry in that community will very likely worry about someone who does have to make those choices. These I hope are short-term concerns that I will alleviate but, the most important thing to do is deliver full fiscal and political control to the Scottish sovereign. To you and me, that is more commonly known as independence for Scotland and being able to quickly remove those whom we trust with our sovereign power to do our bidding at our discretion, so long as we see them fit to do so and not a second longer. I can assure you I am not going to Westminster to be a good parliamentarian!
I like many of you have had to fight tooth and nail for every scrap and cram from our current overlord’s table. In winning that fight for myself I am sure I can inspire this nation to do the same because our nation of strong people as a nation stronger than the sum total of each individual sovereign. Yes, when I say the sovereign, I mean you.
I started out at Carrick primary school with dreams of being an engineer, an astronaut or a surgeon. It very quickly became clear that I like the dirt way too much to be a surgeon and problem-solving has always been my forte so, engineer won the day.
Being a rather neurally diverse, (dyslexic) my school years were spent 50% of the time at the reading unit and in secondary school, extra English was rammed down my throat. They called me a dreamer so, dreaming is what I did! With dreams of fantastic pieces of technology to solve people’s problems I strode forward with my buckled head but a heart full of passion. I forced my way into their apprenticeship, had a go at uni a few times but got scooped up by the engineering money in Aberdeen. I was an engineering consultant within a year then a few years after that, my first dose of reality. I went from picking and choosing between consultancies to having conversations with Edinburgh High Riggs job centre. It took me 12 years to relight my dream. I have delivered many a robot since then, including, two robotic whales you might have seen on the BBC last summer. It’s amazing how the City of London come to 8.1% of the population any time they want anything done properly. The point is, I have plenty of energy left and I will bring that determination to taking back our country for the sovereign!
Why am I inspired to deliver Scotland back to the sovereign now, in a word, Green-freeports. Less of your nonsense, it’s hyphenated. If I don’t get off my derrière now, the conduit that is freeports will be right up our sovereign, well I will keep it clean, the City of London will use its vacuous Freeport pipe to vacuum up every piece of wealth that Scotland has long after we are independent. See, you are the sovereign along with all your friends and family and all their friends and all their families and the sooner we all realise that fact the sooner we will have the power in our hands to break the shackles for, those shackles are actually only in our minds. The shackles put on our minds in 1707 by our current overlords can and will be broken by using your own personal sovereignty and me and my pals can show you how. If we let these Freeport take hold, Scotland will go from being the most prosperous nation in these Pritonish (yes, the Romans have been spelling it wrong for years.) Isles to serfdom. Yes, the choice is that stark, independence or serfdom. I will demonstrate to you that over the course of my campaign I will win your confidence that I can put the Edinburgh East train back on the rails. If I retain your respect, win your trust and maybe even your friendship, may be, you will trust me with the most precious thing as Scott possesses, your sovereign trust to give you back your self-esteem, your dignity and most importantly, your country.
So, if you’re still with me, you might like to know the measure of the man you might trust your sovereignty to.
I will be swearing fealty to the sovereign, the Scottish sovereign.
I will call for the resignation of the first minister so as to trigger a democratic event so that the sovereign can bestow a clear mandate upon their chosen servant to deliver them from their current overlord to preside over the land in partnership with their fellow Scots as is their birth right.
What William Wallace did was martyrdom, what Robert the Bruce did was brave, what I am about to do is nothing more than my duty to the Scottish sovereign.
I am a heterosexual man and that is not going to change, ever. I am, supportive and accepting of both physical genders. I also support and accept that someone’s physical gender and gender of the brain do not necessarily match. I have always been that way. As a society, we must be more supportive and accepting of all forms of diversity without detrimental effect to the rights and privileges of others. I am neurally diverse. With a little bit of technological support, I have learnt how to use my neural diversity to enhance the life of others through technological innovation.
54 years of age.
Father of two.
Product of the Thatcher years.
Time and family wait for no person.
Marriage, I always wanted to proclaim my love at a large event for friends and family. As an engineer, as it turned out, my whole life has been blighted by job instability to this day because of Thatcher’s total disregard for a just transition from industries dying on their arse. It was change, those industries required, not total and rapid desolation. The instability of the aftermath and some intolerance of diversity, even to this day has stripped me of the stability that family life requires. I never did get to the point where I can afford a decent shindig. Some people just suck it up and get on with it, other people let it split families. Some people find themselves on the receiving end of a split. The most important thing about marriage is not marriage itself, it is one person’s commitment to another through thick and thin. I so admire those people who make that commitment and stick to it, no matter what comes and no matter what kind of relationship they have. The more tested that commitment is, the greater my admiration. No place for abuse of any kind of course.
I am a diamond of a single dude.
We are in fact in the same boat as our friends in England although we do have a better social contract with Westminster through our Parliament than the poor English people do. Colonised by the city of London, hiding behind their agent provocateur, the Westminster government. The only thing that stands between Scotland and Scotland being taken over by the worldwide creeping corporate governance is the Scottish constitution. We have the tools at our disposal to break free from the coloniser tomorrow. I know where those tools are and how to use them so,
Trust me with your sovereignty and let’s get it done!
Webcom Radio is Now Playing:
Being in favour of popular sovereignty (as in the Claim of Right) is a good pitch.
And a stark contrast to Tommy Sheppard, MP, who is the current incumbent MP in Edinburgh East who claimed he and his 55 other SNP colleagues went to Westminster in 2015 “not to disrupt but to be constructive” and “to be good parliamentarians” (see https://www.barrheadboy.com/derek-j-kerr-declares-as-an-independent-for-independence-candidate-for-the-edinburgh-east-seat/).
If successful be the absolute antithesis of this craven utterances of Mr Sheppard and the other infamous 55.
Good luck to you Derek.
I posted the incorrect link in my original comment.
Here’s the correct reference for Hansard’s record of Tommy Sheppard’s maiden speech in the House of Commons:

Needs editing. Looks like autocorrect on the original, but makes him appear illiterate.

Great Stuff, All the very very best to you Derek, am sure you will win the folks round,. You mean business!!! You’ll put the wind up on your adversaries. I should say a full gale force is on their way that wont be reckoned with and they’ll be blown away…
Let’s hope we can get more independants for independence in more seats, and give everyone of them the support they need to win.
Good luck Derek Kerr, T Sheppard is one that is on my radar. Hope you get your crowdfunder up soon.
Sending my very best wishes for your campaign, Derek! I hope it will prove to be very successful for you! We need good people working for Scotland and you sound like a real good ‘un!

As someone who lives in the Edinburgh East constituency, it’d be great if you could explain a bit more about how you envisage this. Particularly given the issues around ‘gender’ that we are currently seeing (and which are being handled so very badly). And specifically in terms of the rights of biological women and girls. Thanks.
Good luck
