Today the very title of the podcast is all that really is necessary. I do not think there are enough words in the English language to convey just what Scotland has lost. Alex was without doubt the greatest politician to ever come out of Scotland.
His dedication to his nation of birth is legendary. Nobody suffered more for the cause. The tragedy was that the British state used everything in their armoury to bring him down, and failed. He was finally betrayed by those who owed the most. Ones that would never have had a career in politics if it was not for him. They don’t need named here you all know the culprits.
It is to be hoped those that conspired against him, perjured themselves in an attempt to destroy him finally face the justice they deserve. Not one of them was fit to be in the same room as him, let alone tie his shoelaces? I pray that they meet their just deserts!
The programme this week with Eva Comrie, Lloyd Quinan, Phil Boswell and James Scott do their best to pay the great man a decent complement. His achievements ensure, the dream will never die!
I thought I’d got over the tears but as the show ended they’re back. Thank you for all your tributes. It truly is a sad day for Scotland.

This is what they wanted..he’d had died in prison if they had their way. It’s not unreasonable to question his sudden death is it? McRae. Kelly, Cooke….? Who will get blamed for SNPs disintegration now? I trust his legal actions will go ahead. It’s in the power of his executor and family. His book as well. They canny jail a dead man! The man was respected by others who disagreed with his politics because he was true to his cause and country. Unlike those he gave careers to!
I joined the SNP in 1975 when still at school and came across Alex many times over the years. We shared an interest in horse racing and football and they were the the normal topics of conversation. I was once with him and several others in his favourite restaurant The Raj in Leith and the meal interrupted 6 or 7 times by folk wanting to come and wish him well and each one of them got a cheery word from him. Another thing we had in common was born our father’s served in the navy in the war.
it is so sad that events after the referendum changed everything and I can’t imagine anything worse than being dragged through court and having your reputation effected by a false accusation.
it is my belief that if he had been FM after Brexit we would be independent now.
Thak you Mr Salmond for all you have have done for Scotland, but I worry there is nobody fit to take your place.

There can be no doubts but that the enormous stresses placed upon him, (not so much by the media, but by those he had nurtured and guided for so many years.), hastened his sad end.
The unionist poison still runs deep in the SNP.
As I’m writing this, the tears are in my eyes. This man was the greatest Scottish patriot of modern times. So glad I knew him, if only a little, and I followed his career in the SNP, as I had long been a member when he came to prominence
I will never forget his kindness and the fact that he went that extra mile when I needed information. He even went so far as to telephone me at home and we talked for a long time about his latest project. As an independence figure, he cannot be replaced. For a good part of his career, he was surrounded, not always by great admirers, but by those who respected him and whom he respected, in turn. We were blessed in the past with SNP figures who were giants, mostly gone now, and Mr Salmond was a colossus among giants, in his day.
I read Susan Dalgety in The Scotsman where she explained that she had seen Mr Salmond sitting in the upper public seats at the celebration, while down below, Nicola Sturgeon, Humza and the rest of the crew were taking selfies. Her piece reeked of disgust that he had not even been invited, and she is no fan of the SNP. I had tears in my eyes again, at that snub, so undeserved. How these people manage to sleep at night, I don’t know. Without him, they were nothing, without him now, they will be nothing. He put country first, always. Condolences especially to Moira, and to the wider family. Scotland and the Scots have lost a great hero – on a par with heroes of the past. If they do not do something to mark his stature, his achievements and his passing, that will mark them down as the pygmies they are.
I couldn’t agree more, Roddy. It’s impossible to imagine Scotland without that great man.
Alex Salmond was a true gentleman, an excellent human being and, as we all know, a tireless fighter for the cause of independence. Unlike his one-time SNP colleagues, many of whom, I don’t doubt, will be relieved at the awful news; the man’s memory and legacy will carry forward into our history, and most deservedly so.
A giant of Scottish politics. Never had the honour of meeting him. Back in the 1980s he canvassed my area. I was out getting messages when he stopped by my house [ma Mum telt me]. I was gutted I missed him.
Contrast Alex Salmond – a true believer in Scotland and its independence and who fought for it every day – with the gutless devolutionists who pollute the SNP today.
I agree 💯 that If he had remained as first minister, independence would have arrived by now. I honestly believe it was a big mistake he chose to resign. We must hope for a leader for the independence movement to emerge sooner rather than later.
