Last week ex-SNP MSP Campbell Martin wrote an article for this blogsite. https://www.barrheadboy.com/infiltration-of-the-snp/
This triggered a great deal of interest within and outwith the YES Movement. It also led to twitter spats between Campbell and arch House Jocks, Andrew Neil and Alex Massie their brains are so colonised the very thought of the great British State bothering to infiltrate the SNP is beyond the understanding of those two. They so believe that Scotland is too weak, too stupid and too poor to be worthy of the wonderful British spooks to bother about!
The Unionist MSM took up the story. This article in response to the Barrheadboy article first appeared in the Sun written by Les Gallagher and was then taken up by The Times, The Herald, The Record and The National. We wish to give Les and the other unionist rags recognition which is more than they did for ourselves who brought you the story in the first place. They fear independence and alternative media so much they do not credit us for fear of driving readers and viewers towards us.
This is the best they could do. “The SNP is completely compromised,” he wrote on a pro-independence website this week.
We also know that our podcast is trolled by the Unionist media who plagiarise our content but rarely give us credit. We reproduce their article here in full and do so because we understand the vast majority of our readership do not buy or read those unionist papers. It also just goes to prove if you want to know what is really happening then make sure you are following all the good guys in the pro independence new media.

British agents infiltrated and controlled SNP government, ex-MSP claims
Agents of the British state have “captured and controlled” the SNP government after successfully infiltrating the party, a former MSP has claimed.
Campbell Martin, who represented the nationalists at Holyrood and worked in its whips office, alleged that security service assets have risen through the ranks of the SNP to positions where they can shape policy.
Martin, 63, claims the party’s focus on “gender policies” is being pushed by infiltrators in a bid to make it unelectable and discredit the idea of breaking up the UK.
His suggestion that senior party figures, right up to cabinet level, have been passing information to the British intelligence services may appear incredible. However, other senior SNP figures have told The Times they believe that MI5 has a longstanding policy of using agents to penetrate and monitor the independence movement.
Last weekend newly released government documents disclosed that the students who stole the Stone of Destiny from Westminster Abbey in 1950 were betrayed by Scottish-based informants.
Campbell, who was elected as SNP MSP in 2004 and expelled a year later after he strongly criticised the leadership of John Swinney, believes the use of state surveillance increased significantly as the party grew and finally won power for the first time in 2007.
“The SNP is completely compromised,” he wrote on a pro-independence website this week. “It has been captured and controlled by the British state. The difference between those early days of the Scottish parliament and today, is that the British state assets in the SNP have, over the intervening years, risen through the ranks and now hold senior positions that have allowed them to influence party policies and direction, such as adopting a lack of urgency in delivering independence.”

Martin said he now fears he may not live to see Scotland becoming independent, adding: “You have to hand it to the British state, it has played a blinder: today’s SNP is so corrupted by British agents that it has sidelined independence and embraced gender policies that make the party unelectable.”
Martin, a supporter of Alex Salmond, the former first minister, accepts that people will accuse him of being a conspiracy theorist.
However, he points out that the intelligence services managed to infiltrate the IRA and the National Union of Miners, whose late former president Joe Gormley was exposed as a special branch informant in 2002.
“It would be more extraordinary if they ignored the SNP, which is a party which supposedly wants to break up the British state,” he said. “If they hadn’t infiltrated that organisation there would be something far wrong.”
Martin claims his suggestion that senior party figures have been compromised is based on sensitive information he accessed when he worked in the SNP whip’s office at the Scottish parliament. “I think it would be wrong of me to name them,” he said.
Jim Sillars, who served as the SNP’s deputy leader in the 1990s, is also convinced that British agents are operating within the party.
“When I joined in 1980, Dr Robert McIntyre [the party’s then president and first MP] took to me one side and said: ‘Do you realise we will all be penetrated’,” he said.
“In fact, there was some degree of suspicion that I might be one of the penetrators, given my Labour background. The great problem we have is identifying just how deep the infiltration goes and how high up it goes.”
Sillars said he and his late wife, Margo MacDonald, the former SNP MP and independent MSP, “just accepted” that some supposed comrades were double agents. “There were a couple of people in the party who I was absolutely certain were MI5 plants,” he said. “There is nothing we can do about it.
“We are a constitutional national organisation and, therefore, we never set up a counter-intelligence department within the party.”
Alex Neil, who served as health secretary in the Salmond government, and stood down as an MSP in 2021, also believes the security services are operating clandestinely within the Scottish government.
“If I were the first minister I would be operating on the assumption that there will be people who are out to ‘do us in’ from inside the organisation,” he said. “Who they are, who employs them, what they are actually doing, what positions they hold and how many there are, we just don’t know.
“I have no doubt that in decades to come, when official secrets are disclosed, it will emerge that the people who took back the Stone of Destiny were not the only ones who were betrayed by people they thought were loyal to the cause.”
In 2015 Tricia Marwick, then Holyrood’s presiding officer, wrote to David Cameron asking how the Wilson doctrine — the presumption against spying on parliamentarians — was being applied at the Scottish parliament.
The prime minister insisted the Scottish government would have approval over the security services putting politicians under surveillance, including issuing warrants to access phone and email communications.
The SNP has been contacted for comment. The Home Office, which is responsible for the UK intelligence services, has a longstanding policy of not commenting on operational matters.

Campbell Martin said “I think it would be wrong of me to name them”.
Why not?
He could be sued for defamation!
It is reasonable to assume that MI5 would have a watching brief on the SNP – it is the job of a country (snd the UK IS a country) to protect its citizens. It is delusional to assume the gender politics stuff was deliberate sabotage – suggest your writers look at the universities leading that trash on the left of politics in US, Canada, the RUK Ireland, NZ and two states of Oz!
The UK is NOT a country it is a Union of 3 nations Scotland,Wales England and 6 occupied counties of Ireland it is a unitary state like the EU except far less democratic than the very undemocratic EU
Jeez – from a democrat..?
Also, I suggest another year at Ohio State to read up on UK politics before sticking your nose in..!
They are infiltrated and many of us know who they are but of course, there are a few others we don’t know who are active in groups like AUOB this is why I left as one of the organisers, and at that time in the organisation when I tried to expose them I was attacked by other members, my family and I were getting bizarre phone calls after midnight you would be shocked to know those who asked me to remain silent should my revelations harm the Independence Movement it’s not only AUOB who have been infiltrated but I am sure you know this. 2 frontline organisers of AUOB have left one was jailed for ignoring Glasgow Council and Police orders the other face huge fines from Aberdeen Court again for ignoring official orders. One of them is still my friend the other has vanished.
I think you need to chill out my friend.
On the other hand, mind you, just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you… 😱
Alma: the UK is a Union of countries. Scotland and England entered into a Union of independent states in 1707, with Scotland retaining all the accoutrements of a state bar its own parliament. Read the Treaty of Union and the Claim of Right on which it rests.
I absolutely agree that the British State would monitor the SNP, the Welsh nationalists and the Northern Irish nationalists, and I absolutely agree that the genderwoo was not a deliberate infiltration by the British State for the very obvious reason that it poses a far greater threat to England and would have been akin to shooting in the foot. I also agree that it was the hard left, courtesy of the brain dead universities, in every state in the West that introduced this dangerous ideology, not the right. If there has been a response from the right, it has been in answer to the massive threat to the West that the genderwoo, the front line of Queer Theory and Post modernism, poses to our societies. In the end, though, both hard left and far right pose an equally totalitarian threat to our country.
Nevertheless, we want our independence, and we are right to fear infiltration by the British State. Does that mean that we hate the English? Of course not. It just means what it says on the tin: we want our independence. It is just very unfortunate that the genderwoo helps to undermine Scotland even more, at a crucial time in our political struggle.
Alma:
The UK is a multi-nation state+ comprising Scotland, England, Wales and two-thirds of the Irish province of Ireland.
A country is not always a state but it is always a nation. Just like Scotland. It is usually the case that a state and a country are one and the same, hence Independent statehood being the norm and Union being the anomaly. Just like the United Kingdom.
You need to brush up on the Treaty of Union (1707), Claim of Right (1689), Declaration of Arbroath (1320), the geographical territory of Scotland, the people of Scotland and … probably just about everything else.
“Conspiracy theory”, a phrase coined in the aftermath of the Kennedy assassinations (and allegedly popularised by the CIA) is a subject in its own right.
Since the earliest days, the “tinfoil hat” trope has been deployed as a standard attack line against anyone displaying the curiosity to enter this nebulous territory.
I detect possible coordination between Andrew Neil and Alex Massie in their simultaneously pushing against the notion of MI5 infiltration of the nationalist movement. Massie in particular, who has made a career out of cultivating an image as the unkempt “free thinker” of the right, should be regarded with suspicion. He is after all a product of Glenalmond College, the very heart of the Scottish Tory establishment.
Simon Matthews discusses how best to approach “conspiracy theory” in the preamble to his lengthy essay, “The Dungavel handicap: Scotland, Churchill and Rudolph Hess, 1941”, in Lobster #81. Matthews uses the analogy of the “cold case investigation” and argues that circumstantial evidence is considered sufficient to establish guilt in criminal trials.
In countering those who attempt to deploy the “tinfoil hat” label, present them with facts. Join the dots without overstretching. As the old saying goes, follow the money.
Why would an organisation with the strap line “Promoting Trust in Politics and Public Service” (the John Smith Centre for Public Service) hide the sources of its funding? How is this even legal for a registered charity? Not that any Scottish msm journalist would risk their comfortable establishment sinecure to ask these questions.
Catherine Smith (Chair of the JSCfPS) in her site bio., offers “worked in the law … on conflict resolution and democracy building for the LONDON BASED NGO LINKS working particularly in the countries of the former Soviet Union.” (emphasis added). In practice this refers to the former Soviet, Republic of Georgia. This is a clumsy attempt at misdirection, NGO LINKS operates out of the University of Arizona. NGO LINKS is funded by the US Government, National Science Foundation. Why does an agency ostensibly focused on scientific research within the territorial boundaries of the US fund political work in the former Soviet, Republic of Georgia? Follow the money.
Catherine’s mother is widely regarded as having been a senior officer of MI6. Working for the Permanent State against the interest of free democracy apparently runs in the family.
I agree, with Duncanio, After all the bad WM has done to this country why keep quiet about those you actually know have caused so much damage to a once great nation, with a once great party, & a once great movement.. I have read Campbells books and he is so honest about his own failings especially with the demon drink. He says he fears he will never see Independence in his lifetime at 63yrs of age.. I believe him, because one thing is certain Scotland with not just Mi5 infiltration, is now home to so many from England, that can’t get a house in their own country, & with bedroom taxes, prescription charges, and hospital parking charges & University fees for their kids, who can blame them? Indigenous Scots are dying off, We do not have kids like they once did, the days of 6 or 8 or even in my parents case of 11 siblings in their families… Times have NOT improved or got better for the ordinary hard working families, Nobody can afford more than 1-2 children anymore.
And if I were English I would move to Scotland too, I know many of my parents siblings moved to England for work in the 50’s and 60’s But NOT all English move here to be new Scots, they move because they believe Scotland IS part of England. England for them IS the UK..
For some years now, MUCH worse since after the referendum of 2014, almost every new housing build, fills up quickly with English people who can sell their ex councils houses for half a million or more, come to Scotland and buy a £200,000 house and live the good life..There are more English voices everywhere these days, towns are growing, because houses are being built, yet people who have been decades on a council waiting list are no closer to getting a council house, & people from elsewhere are filling them.
Believe our councils have also been INFILTRATED.. There is no way so many homes can be built and Scots are just not getting a council house or even a chance to buy the AFFORDABLE homes..
Alf Baird is right, many of us have seen this in our areas, and elsewhere, our country not just a party is being infiltrated.
We know what it is going to take to get Independence, it will take the PEOPLE to do it. But the people do not seem to be supporting the new TRUE Indy parties that are fighting for Indy, or Organisations like SALVO, Liberation.Scot & others, who are doing so much hard work to open peoples eyes & minds. ALL they need to at least get the ball rolling is 100,000 SIGNATURES, yet that seems beyond the Scots of today.. Yet 120,000 Marched in Edinburgh for Independence, why can’t they give a signature if they are fed up marching or now too old or frail to march..
Just look at the die hard Independenistas that ARE still sticking with the SNP, I know many of these members, & although I myself left the party in 2017, after 5decades, I see them still posting & screaming at anyone who now feels betrayed by that party.. I KNOW they support Independence, yet they still believe Sturgeon was the best FM EVER, and that YUSELESS is the change that will get that Independence.. These are NOT daft people, but so brainwashed are they, it is hard to see how their minds can ever be changed into say moving and starting over again with a new truly Independent party.
They also admired Alex Salmond, they trusted him to do what he said in his mandates and NOBODY can say he didn’t deliver..
If we can’t change their minds, and with so much infiltration Scotland is a LOST cause.. There are NO jacobites today, & nor should there be a need for them. All it takes is the right leader and an X in the correct box. Then do as England did with the EU.. Take our country back.. NO ifs, or Buts, but is has to be done sooner rather than later or we can forget it.. Because everyday WM is draining this country dry. And the people are still sat on their arses, even though hundreds of thousands of them require food banks to feed their bairns, or watch their bairns go to bed early due to the cold, even their elderly parents sit with coats on feart to turn on heating. Raising their children in cheap cold council housing, that is IF they can get one, because they sure as hell can’t afford to buy one anymore..
Name and shame Martin, expose them all to the people who need to know the truth. Most of us already do. but others need their eyes opened.. If this country is ever to be a nation in it’s own right again.. We are NOT all Jock Tamsons bairns anymore.. We Indigenous Scots are a dying breed..
I’m not so sure if there is a need any longer to “expose them all”, Kate, for it is evident by their behaviour that more or less everyone still on the SNP colonial payroll is tainted.
As Aime Cesaire put it, in regard to the numerous pensioned off native elites who conspire with the colonial oppressor to hold back liberation of the people:
“And do not seek to know whether personally these gentlemen (or women) are in good or bad faith, whether personally they have good or bad intentions. Whether personally – that is, in the private conscience of Peter or Paul(a) – they are or are not colonialists, because the essential thing is that their highly problematical subjective good faith is entirely irrelevant to the objective social implications of the evil work they perform as watchdogs of colonialism.”
There is literally nothing we can do about the infiltrators if we don’t know who they are, and even if they are suspected, there is no leverage in naming people unless you can prove what they have done.
In some cases, they will not have deliberately offered up information, but spouted it out in their cups or in some other way. The only definite thing we can be sure of, is that they are there because we know, or should know, that this is how the British State works. We are not special.
They do the same to the unions and to any other organization that might threaten them, and, not least, to individuals who threaten them. A judicious gobbet of misinformation will soon winkle them out, and you can then keep an eye on them and not allow them anywhere near sensitive matters, such as policy.
However, it is always best to differentiate between malignancy and stupidity, and we are living in an era that is probably more stupid than any that mankind has before encountered. All the same, it is as well to differentiate again between real stupidity and the kind of stupidity (and accompanying totalitarianism) that youth itself engenders, and keep under 25-year-olds away from power until their synapses have connected fully. If you are too young to take full responsibility for crimes at the age of 16-25 (especially sexual ones, it seems) you are too young to vote or hold office during that maturation period. You can’t have it both ways.
I may be very wrong, but, as I have said before, setting loose the ‘woke’, especially the ‘trans’ movement, was a huge mistake if it was done deliberately to bring down the SNP/Greens, or both, because it cannot be controlled benignly even by Westminster and Whitehall, and, if anything, it is even more dangerous to England than it is to us because it is in England that the seat of power for the whole UK lies.
I would suspect that we were chosen as the launchpad in the UK to infect England, even though, conversely, it arrived from the States via London. We are a small country and one much easier to parasitize and overwhelm.
At least, that was the idea, but I doubt that they expected the level of pushback from, mainly, older women who have life experience of the many tricks that men play to get their own way in the sex stakes, who have lived through the very worst of the youth body dysmorphic epidemics, such as starvation, cutting, etc., again mainly female contagions, not to be alarmed and alert to, this latest manifestation.
They saw through all the “just be kind’/”born in the wrong body” rubbish to the real agendas underlying those cruel and disabling themes: the misogyny; the sexual and porn-driven motives; the power/control trips. They needed to protect children, so they stuck their necks out and were soundly brutalized – physically, mentally, in their capacity as breadwinners and earners.
Anyone who still cannot or will not see what this movement is in all its layers, from the deviance through to the men’s rights activism to the global corporate interests in making money from it, paving the way for wholesale AI, really needs to go home to think again.
The one thing we should all recognize from this movement’s behaviour is that it has many tentacles and can indoctrinate and infiltrate in ways that Josef Goebbels would have applauded, but its origins do not lie with Whitehall or the Thames Embankment, both of which will be trying to stem its reach into English government.
That they would all have been cock-a-hoop at its effects in Scotland goes without saying, and that Scots within the Scottish government have deliberately cultivated it to undermine independence, is a given, but let us not get carried away with the notion that self-destruction is a uniquely British State agenda because, when you look at what this movement might do across the board to our society in the West, it is not hard to see that it carries within it the seeds of destruction of England, of Europe, as well as ours.
Gerry Adam and Martin MacGuinness both realized that it was NI people themselves – ostensibly republicans, who did most of the actual informing and undermining, often at the behest of the British State, but, often, because they chose to do so for other reasons: such as money, access to persons of the opposite sex, power to decide whether others lived or died, psychopathy, narcissism, et al. The Scots will be no different. So long as we concentrate on the splinter in the eye of our ‘Auld Enemy’, we refuse to acknowledge the beam in our own and that, like our Irish cousins, we have always been our own worst enemies. Sinn Fein is well infiltrated by the ‘woke’ and will be directed, by the parasite in the collective brain, to immolate themselves unless they start to understand their weaknesses and cut the feet from this monster.
Note that it is nationalist/independence movements, left wing/liberal parties and collective organizations that it has targeted, not necessarily because they are dissident, but because they are populated by many idealists and those who care about others and the bigger picture more than themselves – like babes to the slaughter, literally.
Take one Angus Robertson as a case in point. He is an arch gradualist. He is the one who killed SNP party democracy using Stalinist methods. He went hobnobbing with the landed gentry before the Land Rights Bill was finalised and lo and behold it got watered down.
Now he wants the SNP to drop it’s strong opposition to people accepting peerages because he fancies one.
If he isn’t an asset the British State is getting a lot of value out of him.
Muscleguy: I knew Angus a bit, through work, when he was MP for Moray. He is a bit of an elitist, enjoys the good life, and can be somewhat authoritarian, and, yes, he did undermine the party democracy in reshaping the NEC, but, I think, in his mind, he thought he was doing it for good reasons. He is definitely a gradualist, and was a Swinney supporter when he was leader, as he supported Nicola Sturgeon, but I really find it hard to believe that he would deliberately, consciously undermine independence itself or consciously enable anyone else to do so. Of course, I could be very wrong, but everything I observed about him would suggest not.
Richard Lochhead, the MSP, was also a Sturgeon supporter and rose through the ranks, but he is an excellent constituency MSP and goes to great lengths to help his constituents. I found both of them likeable and decent people whose dedication to the independence, at some point, of their country was visceral and instinctive, as well as intellectual, and, although I find the scenic route to independence frustrating and pointless in the end, I cannot, in all conscience, condemn these two SNP politicians out of hand. There are certainly others that I would suspect of being collaborators, but not these two.
As I said, I could be very wrong, but their sticking with the SNP line does not make them guilty of anything other than misguided loyalty and, perhaps, personal ambition. We have to be careful not to ‘other’ those who still toe the line even when we no longer can, and distinguish between the real bad faith actors and those who still owe loyalty, however much we find it hard to accept, to a party that is no longer adhering to its core principle. The infiltrators will be laughing all the way to the polling booth. The SNP is going to the wall, and, when it does, the wider independence movement must be very careful to let the right ones in (and keep the wrong ones out) when the time comes.
Lorna, should Scots be so enthused by any supposed ‘nationalist’ who agrees to manage a colonial administration on behalf of our oppressor, remembering that colonialism is a crime, and likely also a violation of the Claim of Right/Scots Law?
No matter whether Direct or Indirect Rule, the colonial reality remains the same.
No, indeed, Alf, but, again, people often have the scales come off their eyes and we should not necessarily bar them from subsequent participation or blacken them if there has been no actual culpability. The law demands that you need mens rea for a crime to have been committed. Undoubtedly, there are Scots who have deliberately and knowingly sold out their country, but there are always those who just do not get that what they are doing is contrary to Scotland’s best interests; often, they think that they are doing the best they can for their country. We know they are not, but we have to give them the benefit of the doubt that they do not see matters as we do. After all, when we do get our independence – and we will – everyone, housejock, Unionist, misguided, johnny-come-latelys, plain wrong, et al, will have to be embraced.
I don’t think so Alf and you are right. The problem with the gradualists is that they have won feck all and what they have won are fiscal traps for a pocket money parliament.
This is not at all how Australia and New Zealand where I grew up did it. They started by minting their own currencies exiting the Sterling zone, which London of course warned them against. There’s little news under the sun.
They could get away with that by being a long way from London. If we tried that they would cut off our money but still keep the tax receipts heading for London amongst other things and I suspect it would break Reserved Powers in several places. So it is not really an option for us.
The Britnat spys game has been to exasperate the faithful an lead them down the path to frustration and finally acquiescence with the British state. The aim is to keep us in their coercive iron grip, continuing the theft of our resources. At least bringing this into the open forum now people can come to terms with reality and scale of the infultration of the SNP and vote for other independence parties. The infultration explains the Strugeon years of inaction and wasted mandates and a total lack of support for the independence moment. No campaigning, No referendum, just compliance and selling of Scottish assets for the benifit of our colonial masters, free ports, windmill farms, we have had it with the SNP. The colonial masters have turned the SNP into a Trojan horse, and worst of all gave the colonial masters court recognition as a fair broker, theatre for those who don’t understand the colonial masters law is not international law. It subversive imperialism and not relevant being a vehicle to deny your right to self determination. They had their Brexit is our right to leave there dud Zombie Union .Sign up for the Decolonisation and the declaration of Edinburgh.
Dissolve the rotten to the core Union.
I agree with duncanio and Kate – name these bastards. We’re done with them..!
Not that simple
Yes, I realise that – and it’s also such a shame we can no longer apply tariffs of a more medieval nature for their treachery and treason…
I firmly believe we’ll become independent again in the near future. So, don’t become depressed. Instead, buy Campbell Martin’s three books or order them from your local library. Every Scot should read them.
Well said, Jan. Campbell Martin is a very good journalist.
The British State has always been duplicitous and used Secret Services to undermine and control Scottish attempts to exercise their right to Self Determination.
Some years ago now the BBC Alba channel broadcast a documentary in Gaelic called ‘Diomhair’ (Secret).
Quite how they were permitted to do so is surprising in itself but perhaps ‘lost in translation’ came into play.
Whatever, using archived records at Kew, ROIs and 1st hand witness accounts the producers made a documentary which exposed the extent to which the British State used subterfuge, agents provocateurs and downright lying to try to prevent Scots realising the truth of their predicament or its remedy – independence. In a way which would never be allowed in English on a peak MSM viewing slot.
At the time, YT uploads were limited to short clips (10mins?) so we had to upload, I think from memory, the programme divided into 6 parts. So we decided to do a PDF transcript which could be email attached to folk and actually, given the amount of information in it, a printed form was actually better since it allowed the reader to pause and absorb when appropriate. A team of us did this and the PDF is available from Wings Reference archive.
Here is the link
http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/repository/DIOMHAIR.pdf
I believe the whole video is now available from there too now but I encourage you to study the text version first you will absorb much more that way.
Charles, I took your advice and studied the text. I’m exhausted! We all know the “British” State is far from honest where Scottish Independence is concerned but I was not prepared for the extent of their dishonesty. Nothing is beyond their determination to retain Scotland – especially since the discovery of oil. BUT I’d maintain all the more reason for us to regain our INDEPENDENCE.
Certainly the Genie is out of the bottle now but it is not that long ago that those of us who suggested the BBC were biased were accused of paranoia by othe5r pro indy supporters. Like your optimism and I’m stealing some.
