Those that follow me on social media know all about my three things questions to silence unionists and devolutionists. There is a slight difference in the actual question however the premise is the same. To unionists I ask, ” Can you name three things that can only be achieved by the British Union that cannot be achieved by an independent Scotland?”

The replies are very amusing. Usually, I get a list of Unionist tropes that are all about what they conceive to be about what Scotland cannot do as opposed to what the British Union can uniquely do. Comprehension is not unionists strong suit! “You cannot use the £ Sterling.” England and the world won’t trade with you. You won’t be allowed to join the EU or UN. England won’t pay your pensions. You will be as poor as Uganda. All these ridiculous things, that bear no resemblance to the question asked of them. The answer is simple, there is nothing the Union can achieve that an independent Scotland cannot achieve. Unionists, however, are either too stupid to understand that or too smart to answer it correctly.

The supplementary question which I have never needed to deploy is another equally difficult one for unionists. “If the answer is nothing, why should we let another country take these decisions on our behalf? Would we not be better taking those decisions ourselves like all the other free nations of the world?

I suppose one credible answer would be a Permanent Security Council seat at the UN. However, does anyone think that is so great a prize or a reason not to support independence? USA decides everything anyway. It is just a great gig for some London toady donor or career civil servant!

For those devolutionists and Sturgeon loyalists I have a similar question. Can you name 3 practical things Nicola Sturgeon has done since November 2014 to advance the cause of independence? Like the Unionists, the faithful tend to answer a question they were not asked. “You just hate Nicola.” You are Alba so you are a homophobic yoon. You are just a Unionist, a Tory, a bot and countless other names and insults. Never a single practical measure is suggested.These people just like the unionists cannot answer that simple question because to answer it truthfully the myth of Sturgeon crumbles. The answer is nothing practical has been done to advance our cause in her entire tenure. Indeed, nothing whatsoever has been done to advance the cause in eight years!

Not once has the SNP Conference or NEC discussed routes to independence in almost 9 years! We know how Chris McEleney and Angus Brendan were booed for attempting to debate independence at SNP Conference. As the booing rang out Sturgeon did and said nothing, nor did any of her inner circle. We know there has not been a single independence campaign in all her years. Worse still, during the UK General Election in 2017, she made it clear a vote for the SNP was not a vote for independence. As opportunity after opportunity appeared to move towards self-determination Sturgeon always stood us all down.

It was this more than anything that saw four new independence parties form. The attempt to falsely imprison Alex Salmond on trumped up charges split not just the SNP but the entire movement. One day when the names come out and everyone sees the direct connection and links back to the office of the First Minister people will be appalled.

Betrayal never comes from those you don’t know and trust! Abandoning independence in favour of Gender issues just added fuel to the fire As the SNP had more and more internal democracy removed more and more members left. The less that Sturgeon concentrated on independence more and more people lost heart.

As independence supporters lost heart, the unionists became emboldened. Like many of us that left the SNP the unionists figured out Sturgeon was no threat to the union or really that interested in independence, except at elections. Now they no longer fear the SNP and that is the worst thing of all. The Unionists do not feel the union is under threat with Sturgeon in charge!

The reason I am going over all this again is this, if the SNP elect Humza Yousaf to replace her someone will be writing a similar article to this in 7 or 8 years. They will be asking themselves how did we let this happen? Why are we not independent?

I have listened to the contenders and to Humza in particular. He spends a lot of his time praising his former boss. He has openly stated that he will challenge the Section 35 in the courts just as his boss wants. The fact that this piece of legislation led to her resignation seems lost on Humza. Setting aside the actual bill does he truly believe that the UK Supreme Court in London, England, is going to question the authority of the sovereign Parliament at Westminster? Has he even considered the timescales or the costs involved? I would suggest that at a minimum he will be bogged down in courts for two years and incur hundreds of thousands of £s in lawyers fees. Fees that will have to be paid by the Scottish tax payers, not Humza or the SNP! Two years wasted that could be spent building a better nation.

He has also praised the Green Party and expressed his desire to continue on with that partnership.Once again continuing and complying with Sturgeon’s wishes. It seems he is oblivious to the damage their insane policies of GRRB and DRS have done to the SNP.

He wants to keep the £ Sterling just like Sturgeon. Then he says he wants to rejoin the EU, not EFTA just like Sturgeon though both have never managed to tell us how they propose to rejoin EU using a non-members currency?

He also stated that Ash Regan’s plan to have a separate Scottish currency ‘is foolhardy.’ Has he forgotten this is the very same policy adopted by the SNP Conference in 2018? It should be party policy now, however, Sturgeon chose to just ignore the wishes and votes of the SNP members. It seems Humza wants to do the same.

He wants to delay independence, just like Sturgeon. He wants to convince more of the supposed soft no voters, who actually do not exist! This was a classical delaying tactic under Sturgeon’s regime. The numbers have been there since 2016 the political will and independence campaign has not!

In fact there isn’t a single thing of Sturgeon’s he would change. He doesn’t want a Constitutional Convention involving other independence parties and civic Scotland. He thinks Peter Murrell the man that cannot account for £633,000 of ringfenced money is the perfect CEO for the SNP, just like Sturgeon.

Therefore, if the SNP members just want another 8 years of no progress on independence. 8 more years of gender wars. 8 more years of being told no to a section 30 by Westminster. 8 more years of division in the YES Movement and nothing to change except the voice marching you up and down the hill, then Humza’s your man!

Either elect him or just ask Nicola Sturgeon to reconsider her decision to resign. With Humza nothing will change all that will be different is the delivery, and he isn’t as good a bullshitter as Sturgeon!

The delivery might not be so good but the policies and behaviours within the SNP and to the independence movement will be the exact same. Worst of all, we will not be any closer to independence in 2030 than we are today!

Now to ensure absolute continuity he has adopted Sturgeon’s temporary amnesia antic. Both Alex Salmond and Alex Neil have confirmed that he arranged an appointment with the Pakistan High Commission on the day of the final vote on SSM. He is in denial of course, and his memory is different from these two bastions of our democracy. Yet in true hypocrite fashion he attacked Kate over her honest views on Single Sex Marriage! We have had enough of a First Minister that cannot recall, doesn’t remember, has to check his notes or, it was a big boy that did it and ran away nonsense!

In this week’s televised debate Humza looked into the camera and pleaded that the candidates would not attack each other. However, the following day he attacked Ash on currency. Do we want to tolerate another eight years of internecine wars inside the governing party?

If he is elected, I fully anticipate that at Holyrood Election 2024 a Unionist coalition will become our new government. Then once more we can learn to live with student fees, prescription charges, bridge tolls. Watch as Scottish Water and SNHS are sold off to the spivs in the City of London.Remember how it happened when you cannot afford your kids to go to university. Remember when the day comes, and you are waving them goodbye as you see them off to Australia or Dubai or USA as they go in search of a better life. Remember who is responsible when you have to pay for your old mums home care. That is what will happen if the SNP elects the continuity candidate.

I have no vote or any say in this election beyond my blogs and social media. However, I would humbly suggest the only continuity we require from this contest is another adult human female First Minister!

Since I first expressed my opposition to this entire GRA nonsense I have found myself being banned and blocked on social media platforms. Even here many people who have subscribed to my blogs no longer receive notifications when I post a new blog.It has grown worse since February last year when I made my views as a peacenik clear and refused to join in with the war mongers and their Russophobia. I have opposed wars my entire life and will not for the sake of popularity jettison my principles.
