ALBA TO BREAK BROADCASTING BAN WITH “INNOVATIVE GRASSROOTS CAMPAIGN”

ALBA Party Leader and Former First Minister Alex Salmond will slam Ofcom’s “gross dereliction of duty on BBC unfairness” but says that ALBA’s support in communities will lead to a parliamentary breakthrough in the Scottish Elections on 6 May. Launching ALBA’s“innovative grassroots campaign” (Friday) at the Falkirk Wheel at 2.00 pm

for the last week of the Election, Mr Salmond pledged to break the broadcasting ban imposed by the BBC.

In a statement Mr Salmond said:

“ALBA are being censored by the BBC but can still take our case to the country.

“We can field more community activists than any of the old parties and we will now step up our street based campaign. Over the next week we will introduce further innovative campaign tactics to get across the arithmetic reality that an SNP vote on the regional list is wasted but that ALBA can galvanise the Independence campaign.

“Every establishment hand may be turned against us but ALBA’s support in communities will see us breakthrough to register gains across Scotland. ALBA is rising and the people know it.”

Moving on to criticise the refusal of Ofcom to intervene to ensure fairness of television coverage he continued:

“Ofcom has effectively surrendered its role as a custodian of brodcasting fairness and allowed the BBC back to being a law unto itself.”

Mr Salmond continued:

“The facts are simple. ALBA has been effectively blacked out by the BBC which dominates the election broadcasting coverage. This applies not just to the set piece debates but even more importantly to the daily round of news coverage.

“The BBC sticks to its out-of-date, discredited formula of ‘five major parties’ getting roughly equivalent coverage despite the reality that of these parties the SNP are almost ten times the size of the Lib Dems.

ALBA on many measurements – membership, Panelbase opinion polls, and policy relevance and distinctiveness – has already overtaken the Lib Dem’s in this campaign but yet is receiving only a bare fraction of the coverage allocated to the ‘feeble five’.

“There is no way that is fair, reasonable or democratic.

“But ALBA is rising and the people know it.”

  • And the BBC included in their Welsh leaders debate the Party in Wales that seeks to abolish the Welsh Assembly and has no Parliamentarians and had less than 4% of support in the last Vote. but that’s okay – they’re no challenge to the British State.

  • We shall overcome, of that I am sure once the REAL Indy voters realise they are being used for another mandate to keep Scotland tied to devolution. The Establishment & STURGEON fear Alex Salmond, that should be what Scots for for INDY need to see & hear. As their fear is the answer to our freedom.

  • Not only BBC but all the major terrestrial broadcasters. Not surprising given they are predominantly English broadcasters who follow the English establishment script. Time Scotland asserted its right as an equal partner with equal authority to the state of GB and created a purely Scottish broadcaster and a Scottish broadcasting organisation to keep the checks and balances instead of relying on English organisations.
