ALEX SALMOND’s Alba Party have demanded that the Stone of Destiny is immediately returned to Scotland.
Delegates at the pro-independence Party’s Spring Conference backed a motion at the weekend calling on First Minister Humza Yousaf and Historic Environment Scotland to ensure the immediate transfer of the Stone of Destiny back to Scotland.
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) say that it was to remain in London until the coronation theatre at Westminster Abbey closed, but that there was no official date on when it would return.
ALBA Party want the Stone returned now and have called for it to embark on a National Tour of Scotland before taking up its new home at a bespoke museum that is being constructed in Perth to house it.
Commenting ALBA Party’s National Organisation Convener Denise Findlay said:
“ The Stone of Destiny is an ancient symbol of our Nation’s Sovereignty. To some it might just be a lump of rock, but it is our lump of rock.
“ The sole reason it takes part in Coronation’s at Westminster Abbey is to symbolise Overlordship of Scotland. The Scottish Constitutional tradition has a history that Scotland’s Kings swore an oath of allegiance to the people so it was bitterly disappointing that, whilst Westminster denies Scots their right to Self-Determination, the First Minister agreed to allow the Stone to travel to London before following it there to needlessly swear an Oath of Allegiance to King Charles.
“ The last time the stone was taken to London it took four decades for it to be returned. The Stone of Destiny should be immediately returned to Scotland.”

Motion approved by Alba Party Delegates at their Spring Conference Conference in Inverness
The Immediate Return of the Stone of Destiny to Scotland
In 1296 the then King of England, Edward I, had the Stone of Destiny removed from Scotland and it was built into a new throne at Westminster Abbey in London in other that English Kings could sit over it to symbolise overlordship over Scotland.
It was only returned to Scotland on St Andrew’s Day in November 1996.
Conference affirms that the Perthshire rock is an ancient symbol of Scottish Sovereignty and notes with concern that the First Minister of Scotland allowed it to be transported to Westminster Abbey, to take part in the Coronation of King Charles III, during a period that the Westminster Government continues to deny the people of Scotland their Right to Self Determination.
Conference notes that The Stone of Scone is due to be relocated in Perth, as the centrepiece of a new museum, opening in 2024.
However, Conference further notes with concern that there has been no update as to when the Stone of Destiny will be returned to Scotland.
Conference therefore calls on the First Minister and Historic Environment Scotland to ensure the immediate transfer of the Stone of Destiny back to Scotland to then commence a National Tour of Scotland before taking up permanent place in its new Perthshire home.

Huma Yousaf made a big thing about colour when he ranted in the Scots Parliament about too many of the top jobs having white occupants. Not the most balanced or well considered parliamentary rants. He obviously sees colour as a defining characteristic. Personally I like many others do not see colour as an important characteristic. The colour of one’s skin is irrelevant. There are far more important characteristics than colour, much more important characteristics.
Yousaf is not a stupid man. So in ranting about colour it was clear he had something else in his mind. Was it Asian you have to ask. Well no, Asia is a big place, ranging from Chinese looking people, to Mongolian looking people to Indian sub continent looking people and of which there are many shades.
So who did he have in mind. Sub sets of Indian sub continent people, and maybe those of a certain religious persuasion to. We don’t know because in using the word ” white ” in anger he conjures up a resentment to class of people who he considers to be oppressors. Hitler was an oppressor and he and his regime had an understanding of who was ” white ” and who was not.
So what is our firebrand Humza Yousaf who decries whites. And what of his politics of the symbolism of him seeing off the ancient Scottish icon of nationhood, the Stone of Destiny to his clearly English masters. As symbolism grows, this non white First Minister has made a statement, The colonial governor of Scotland, and every bit as much as a colonial governor as those who ruled his familial historical homeland that was India, the greatest jewel in the British colonial empire.
But hang about. Humza may be a lickspittle in the service of his English masters but with the recent coronation this has reinforced calls from India for the stone, that is the big diamond stone that adorns the English monarch’s crown to be returned. And therein lies the difference. India politicians want their stone back whilst our plastic pathetic First Minister doesn’t want our stone back.
Tells you everything about the man and his beliefs and ethics. He ain’t no Scot and it shows.
