In Scotland there are so many people who reject out of hand the very notion that Scotland is a defacto English colony. Defining colonised is put simply, it is safe to say it occurs when one nation subjugates another nation. This is usually achieved by conquering by force of arms or by subterfuge using internal traitors to betray their own country of birth. Once the population is conquered and subdued, the exploitation begins. At the same time the dominant party forces its language and cultural norms on the colonised people.
Have you ever noticed that our western media only ever tell us bad news stories about Africa? Wars, famines, coups, epidemics, children dying from hunger or malaria. Never do we hear good news stories about Africa. Much like British media and their placemen and women in Scotland we are only ever told, Scotland bad stories.
Just as in Africa where the media never talks up the wealth and natural resource abundance of the dark Continent to its people. We in Scotland never hear positive stories regarding our wealth and resources. You see, it is hard to exploit a nation when the inhabitants realise the true extent of the theft occurring in their land.
In Africa colonisation was always usually done by force of arms. Depending on which part of Africa, you find yourself in you will find an array of European languages being spoken. That indicates who was the coloniser. Niger, France, Nigeria English, DRC Belgian etc Over the centuries the nations of Europe colonised and pillaged Africa. It is still happening to this day. The reason is simple, Africa has the richest concentration of natural resources such as oil, copper, diamonds, bauxite, lithium, gold, hardwood forests, and tropical fruits. It is estimated that 30% of the earth’s mineral resources are found in the African Continent. Yet some of the worlds poorest citizens live there, why is that? (Rhetorical question!)
Recently we are seeing more and more African nations standing up to the European and American colonisers. In Northern Africa there have been seven coups in just the past three years. There is a pattern developing here that points to Africans tiring of being exploited by European and US corporations.
It was with all this in mind that today I interviewed, Umar Isa Dandago. Umar is a freelance journalist based in Kano State, Nigeria. He is the founder of Global ArenaTV a YouTube channel that hosts many high-profile experts from different geographical and different walks of life.
