Through A Scottish Prism. 24/04/22

This week I am joined by some of the different threads of the YES Movement. Alison Watters Co-Chair of Now Scotland, Ian Grant of Scottish Independence Foundation, Dr Mark McNaught Chair of SSRG Group and Kenny MacasKill MP. Deputy Leader of Alba Party. We discuss the how, why and when the YES Movement can unite to get the independence bandwagon rolling again. It was a privilege to hear these Scottish patriots give their views on the way forward. They simplify exactly what is needed.

It made me realise, we are only ever limited by our own lack of imagination and endeavour. It is time for us all to put our shoulder to the wheel, Scotland’s future generations need us to act now!

  • What an excellent show today Roddy. Really inspiring. The only drawback was that it went by too quickly.

  • Another great show.
There are lots of mass actions which are effective and legal – run on the banks, mass boycott of products, and yes a mass, concerted switch off, to name but a few.

  • Good show today , very encouraging to see the signs that the movement is getting back together and we can create a bit of impetus for Indy despite our governments.

  • I agree about mobilising people and reaching the people, but in my opinion, what will really set the heather alight is securing some legal test case which legitimises Scotland’s Constitutional Sovereignty, and more than that, properly obliges Westminster to acknowledge and address the distinction.

I once referred to Scotland having a Schrödinger’s Cat Constitution, a Constitutional Sovereignty which both exists and doesn’t exist at the same time. If we can nail a definitive legal ruling that asserts Scotland’s Constitutional Sovereignty does exist, is lawful and extant, then we can demolish that Schrödinger’s paradox, and remove it as the main pillar which supports the bogus principle of the Parliamentary Sovereignty of Westminster. Do that, win an International Constitutional judgement Westminster cannot ignore, (just like the Chagos Islanders did for example), and the Union is immediately paralysed by an existential crisis.

Kill the Union by any means possible, then maybe put Scotland into it’s own Constitutional “holding pen” status, (somewhat along the lines of what Junckers and VerHofstadt envisioned for Scotland back in 2016), and then let Scotland’s democrats dook it out contesting the ratification plebiscite which determines how Scotland steers it’s way out of that transitional status.

Personally, I would dispute Scotland’s Brexit as an act of undemocratic and unconstitutional subjugation contrary to Scots Law and International Law, and seek to have the UN and Council of Europe agree or disagree. They needn’t reverse Brexit, nor even call for it’s reversal, just concede it was unlawful / unconstitutional.

I believe with the strength of our 700 year written and recognised 1320 Constitution, the Claim of Right, and our emphatic 62% rejection of Brexit, we have everything we need to compel their agreement as the only viable conclusion to be drawn, and thereby reaffirm modern day International recognition for the legitimacy of Auld Scotland’s Constitution and popular Sovereignty of the people.

Such a ruling would not end the Union, but leave it hanging by a thread. The coup de grace would still lie with the Scottish people, but a Scottish people who would all know beyond all doubt that the Union was irremediably doomed and it’s spell of illusion is broken.

  • You are certainly playing your part in the drive towards our independence, Roddy! That was an inspiring programme. Thank you. Good to see Kenny in fighting form. He’s certainly one of the very best politicians in Scotland. Imagine a country driven by Alex, Kenny and Joanna! We’d be up there with Norway. Food and fuel for all our people. Can’t wait!

  • I agree with A Bruce an EXCELLENT show with very knowledgeable guests , so no different from your norm
I also wholeheartedly agree with Kenny MacAskill’s assertion that we HAVE to focus on making people extremely angry at what is currently and continuously being done to them and us by not ONLY WM BUT OUR OWN supposed Scottish government
The LATEST energy price increase and the continuously rising food prices are CAUSING deep despair and actual FEAR AND PANIC to ordinary working people and that is only the tip of the iceberg , EVERYTHING is rising in price with a further increase in energy prices definitely happening just before winter 2022 .

As Kenny says HE is worried and that is on an MP’S salary of £80,000 HTF are people on a fraction of that meant to SURVIVE , are all the CEO’S of the energy companies like ANDERSON of Scottish Power on hundreds of thousands of pounds a year going to freeze , are their children going to go without a hot meal or warmth , is bojo , sunak or sturgeon with their various multiple houses going to HAVE TO CHOOSE between heating OR eating

People NEED to know how RICH in energy Scotland is and WHO is making a FORTUNE benefiting from that energy , and it is certainly NOT the SCOTTISH PEOPLE , they also have to know that Sturgeon has GIVEN AWAY their children’s future energy riches to a conglomeration of parasitical hyenas at bargain basement prices , parasitical hyenas who hold Scotland’s people in contempt and CARE NOT for our children or elderly

PEOPLE’S ANGER AND OUTRAGE should be palpable and vociferous and should be directed at the politicians who are ENABLING this blatant theft of our resources , the PEOPLE WE EMPLOY to SERVE AND PROTECT SCOTLAND and who are FAILING SPECTACULARLY to do so . At the head of this outrage is Sturgeon and her fake Scottish government who are more interested in allowing men with penises into women’s only spaces rather than ensuring our bairns and elderly are warm and comfortable after a nice hot meal
And the other unionist parties ,tory , LIEbour and the Lib dumbs do NOT ESCAPE CRITICISM they are as guilty as the SNP SG in standing by whilst our countries resources are PLUNDERED and REMOVED to benefit another countries population and vulture capitalists whilst the people they are paid to REPRESENT and SERVE are lied to and used

  • 3 things.

1 Your entire broadcast can be summed up in 3 words. Unity Is Strength. There’s a bite sized message for ye. Or, as the modern idiom would have it, a good sound bite. Perhaps an old left wing trope from many years ago but, nonetheless, true. And as you said yourself the other day, you’re getting more left wing as you get older. Good on ye!
2 The Poll Tax. I stood on many a line, on many occasions, to obstruct sheriff’s officers from poinding (pindin) folks furniture and personal effects to pay their non payed poll tax in Barrhead and Neilston. And we won. Every time. Once all the campaigning and direct action was over, we were personally pursued for years by those same sheriffs officers, and ultimately forced to pay every penny in unpaid poll tax, on pain of punitive fines if we did not comply. How many families did this happen to? Did it happen to you? Or Kenny McKaskill? Or Ian Grant? or Mark McNaught?
    3. The only group needed to swing the vote for independence are the poor. As Kenny says, by October more than 50% of Scotland will be fuel poor, so there’s your vote. We know for sure that there are many outwith this group already prepared to vote for Scotland’s freedom (Robin McAlpine and Ruth Wishart and Lesley Riddoch and Alex Salmond and Tasmina Ahmed Sheik and so on and all of the people that they represent. And yourself and Mark McNaught, if only you lived in Scotland..).
To paraphrase a demographic you’ll be more than well familiar with Roddy; We Are The Scottish People! This is NOT a middle class game. This is the game of survival for the lumpen Scottish people.

  • As an add on. You’re sorely missing the input of the redoubtable Mr Iain Lawson. I know that there are huge differences in attitude to the ongoing business in Ukraine. He has a very strong opinion and it is not entertained by the rump of the commentariat on this blog. For what it’s worth, I don’t agree with Iain on most of what he has to say on the subject. But his is his opinion, and he should be welcome to express it. Otherwise, where lies your “democracy”?
Iain Lawson is a devout Scots patriot, of great value to our movement, and you should bury the hatchet without delay. Besides, he’s such great fun, isn’t he?

    • Iain was welcome to express his opinion and indeed was encouraged to give his views. He though does not tolerate anyone else holding a contrary opinion. He was allowed his say (uninterrupted or edited) on several episodes. Other members of the panel disagreed with his pro NATO, pro US view. This seemed to enrage him. On one occassion he even refused to promote a trailer of the show accussing it of not being anti Russian enough. In so doing he was calling into question not only the integrity of the show but also the integrity of myself and Techie who edits and makes the trailers. The show like myself, as you would expect take the same view on this conflict. I have opposed all wars since the time of Vietnam. I never take sides.Throughout this horrific war I have done what I do on the Independence struggle by pointing out media lies and offering alternative reports and information. Then leaving it up to individuals to make up their own minds. That was unacceptable to Iain. He wanted us to be anti Russia, Pro NATO,Pro US.

I want to see an immediate cease fire and a negotiated settlement. Iain publically again attacked that view as Pro Russian, utter nonsense of course, but he expressed it anyway on social media.Anti-war folk like myself he publicly calls pro Putin and anti west.

He has also tried to discredit the Prism show by calling it Pro Russian/Pro Putin on Twitter. This is a lie of the worst kind and not the action you would expect of someone who has graciously been given a platform on the show. He thinks that unless you believe the lies of the corrupt western media on Ukraine then you are a Pro Putin supporter. Such warped views are not acceptable to the ethos of Prism. We strive for truth and balance. The day we stop doing that I would expect us to lose the trust of our growing number of viewers. To have fallen into line with Iain’s CNN/BBC Tory Party type views on this war would be dishonest. Prism will never be bullied into supporting the union or wars!

In summary Neil, it is not about me burying the hatchet it is a question of Iain withdrawing his ridiculous remarks in the same manner as he made them.

      • The irony in all of this is that it was British foreign policy (basically American foreign policy) namely the invasion of Iraq and the mass murder which ensued, that moved me towards independence for Scotland.

  • Prime Prism again Roddy . Unifying the Movement should be our first priority indeed . No easy task , as we’re aware , but we have to harness the mounting anger , frustration and , yes , fear our people are experiencing and turn it towards those responsible , both within and without Scotland .

You’re doing great and necessary work here my friend . Thanks
