Live from Noon every Sunday.
This week I am joined by Eva, Phil and Yvonne. Also on the panel is John Moir, Advocate to give us the legal position of the Section 35 and the Scottish Government’s options and difficulties. We are also delighted to welcome Maggie Mellon, Social Work Consultant, formerly of Action for Children and the Child Law Centre. Maggie and the rest of the panel discuss the GRRB and the resulting fallout with Westminster.
Is the Bill saveable? Is Sturgeon likely to compromise?
Will Sturgeon admit defeat and apologise for the past six years of division and hurt?
Will the SNP now get back to fighting for independence?
Is this the end of the Woke gang and their bizarre policies?
Has independence been damaged by this entire episode?
All this and much, much more on your weekly Through A Scottish Prism.

One story after another, ad infinitum: Cuts, cuts, cutbacks, ‘withdrawal of funding’ ( another one only this morning – ‘Men’s Sheds..’) and so on and so forth..
By demonstrating a perennial and ongoing lack of guts from the hierarchy of the SNP – namely, TO DO THAT WHICH IS INEVITABLE, MUST BE DONE, AND SQUARE UP TO WESTMINSTER IN THE NAME OF THE SCOTTISH PEOPLE – the SNP are simply doing Westminster’s job for them..
Small, adaptable, well-educated, flexible population; the home to a swathe of the world’s top Universities; worthwhile infrastructure – education, legal, financial, transportation, etc – and export-driven economy; A RESOURCE-RICH NATION WHICH VOTED OVERWHELMINGLY TO REMAIN IN THE EU . . . Being hamstrung at every turn by one funding cut after another, courtesy, ultimately, of Westminster..
And, by reason of said lack of GUTS, the SNP are complicit in this ‘farce’, which would be funny were it not so serious..
Meanwhile, right at the very top of the Party’s agenda ( so much so they spent time, money, resources, and legislative time upon it to bring forward legislation on the issue.. ) we have . . . wait for it, peeps . . . gender recognition reform..
Could not make it up.. G.
Excellent discussion folks.
GRR is clearly a massive diversion from our core aim – independence. Postcolonial theory and history tells us that national independence movements and national solidarity depend on a peoples national identity and national consciousness, it has nothing to do with gender identity ‘ideology’.
Alf: the ‘trans’ movement is exactly the attempted colonisation of female spaces, rights, jobs, sports, etc. by men acting out woman face. It is a parasitical movement. That might sound stark, but that is what it is. Nothing more, nothing less. I have said all along that independista Sots and women and children are facing the self-same political pressures. It looks as if this particular type of colonisation might be the hill on which the SNP/Green coalition dies because they sure as hell are not prepared to die on the hill of independence.
Independence per se will not cure this particular parasitical invasion if we have the same corrupt monsters in charge. The ‘trans’ issue has never been a diversion. Rather it has been the core aim since Nicola Sturgeon took over from Alec Salmond. If we want to get back to independence being the core aim, this vile parasite has to be bested. Women, whether independista or Unionist, should be using their vote to drive home the message: no more. We need to organise politically, not just socially, and at a party level because ll the parties, apart from the Tories, are complicit in this take-over.
ALBA has a Bill of Rights as part of its manifesto, and it is essential to enact it immediately upon independence. This stuff could propel independence on to the front page again, and that will be when Nicola Sturgeon falls, and, hopefully, her cohort with her. The only other thing that could happen, is that Unionism is cemented because of the lunacy and irresponsibility of this blundering SG, actually lying about the administrative quality of this GRRB, when it should have been, and was, obvious that it would have dire consequences for many other, pre existing pieces of UK-wide legislation that impact on female rights.
This was one of the most informative prisms ever, Roddy. All your guests were superb. As Phil said, this should not be the hill on which independence dies. I’ve reached the point now where I simply will not even recognise ‘gender identity’ or ‘trans’. I accept that there are people for whom there is no cure, and they have to have the surgery and hormones, but they are and always have been a minuscule number. The rest of this nonsense comprises paraphiliac men and social contagion captured youth.
However, having said that, it was the both the GRA 2004 and the lack of protest from women from the 1960s onwards when our spaces were opened up to transsexuals that opened the door to what we have now. These people are relentless in their pursuit of access to all female rights, spaces, jobs, sports, etc., and the underlying power dynamic is that of misogyny. That is becoming clearer and clearer now. It is not that they want to exist alongside us, but that so many of them actually hate us and want us out of the way entirely. Women have always been the gate-keepers against Queer Theory and the pressure now to give in is relentless.
I believe that the SNP/Greens have actually cemented a cross-border alliance of anti GRRB people that transcends our different political backgrounds. I do not want women and children in England to be affected by this nonsense any more than I want Scottish women and children to be affected by it, and I also take on board that gay men and lesbian women are also in the firing line. John made an excellent contribution concerning the Tory quandary on the conversion therapy issue.
This whole ‘trans’ issue has been a disaster for the West, with more and countries which have already introduced self-ID being split over what the ‘trans’ lobby is now doing. It was entirely predictable that these culture warriors would not stop at self-ID, but would push and push for even more radical Queer Theory principles. That is why the 2004 GRA must be repealed. It has been nothing more than a springboard from which everything else has leapt. No GRA, no reform. Repeal the GRA and this whole nonsense stops tomorrow. Piecemeal brakes on legislation will not do it; it has to be wholesale destruction of the base.
The 2010 Equality also need to be either rewritten or amended to strengthen the protected characteristics, of sex, of course, but also of disability because we cannot have idiots claiming to be disabled and using a wheelchair on self-ID. They are taking the michael, they know they are taking the michael and we let them. This has to stop. No more ‘just be kind’, no more ‘puir wee sowels’. If anyone wants a GRC (and all birth and offence, etc. details must be retained whatever) then he or she must undergo the same conditions as those who are disabled, which means a medical diagnosis. The period of ‘living as the opposite sex’ could be reduced and the whole thing made cheaper, but creating a legal fiction cannot take precedence over natal female/male rights.
Children require to be protected properly, with real safeguarding and sex education reflecting that, and no child should be validated under the age of 18. Proper counselling should be instigated, and any medical person operating on healthy bodies of children should be removed from the profession. How we have reached this level of insanity as a society, it is hard to comprehend except that we were gulled into thinking that this was a misunderstood and marginalised community. No biological men in women’s spaces. None. Women had to campaign and fight for their spaces in the first place. No parasitical group should be allowed to encroach on those spaces. If men want to woman face, they can fight for their own spaces to share with those of the same mindset. I know that would bar transsexuals, but they should have done something before now to establish their own spaces. Any attempt to argue otherwise will lead to people surmising that there is more to their woman face than adulation of the female; in fact, adulation of the female might not even enter into it at all, just autogynephilia.
Well, now we understand a lot more about it, and we should also be prepared to accept that some things are rightly condemned and marginalised for very good reasons: the public flaunting of paraphilias; the abuse of children; and the appalling treatment of females who have seen through this male sexual ‘rights’ (demands) campaign from its earliest days in Scotland. We also have to admit that the women, girls and children are the smokescreen for paraphiliac, middle-aged, middle-class, mostly professional men to bring their fetishes out of the bedroom and into the public space. That is the fundamental truth of this movement, along with the truth that it is being funded by globalist, corporatist billionaires in America (mainly) whose investments in Big Pharma, Big Tech, Big Medicine, etc. are set to be rolled out across the world, starting in the West.
It has all been enabled by the hard left who have colluded with the far right. The extremes of both left and right are twins, on either side of the same coin – both totalitarian. The other important factor in all this is that the SG could be accused of corruption in all of this because they have listened only to funded groups and are pushing those funded groups’ agenda, not giving equal balance to both sides, but only to those who would benefit from this legislation to the detriment of those who would be severely disadvantaged by it. That is the behaviour of a corrupt despot.
Remember when everybody was just one of either HLGB before T gender and beyond came along…
Sex only ever comes in two forms, regular or occasional 🙂

Great show BB. This GRR I am totally against but after listening to your show I am now wondering what Sturgeon has done to this once great country. I ask you and your readers BB, take Independence out of the equation for a minute. Would this Government survive? Would it survive all the other mishaps that are happening now and in the past. The police computers come to mind. It would not. It would be out on their ear. This is why I say to my colleagues. The independence supporters do not care. It does not matter 1 iota what the SNP do, its Indy. Its Scotland that is suffering. It since 2014 after AS’s Gov has gone all to pot and Scotland is suffering. Sturgeon will never give up power if Indy succeeded. She would want to parade about for years with that stupid put on grin of hers. No way will she give up on that. Got to go now. Sportscene is on. Hearts for the cup I say.
Hearts maybe for the final.
Browsing over ‘The National’ newspaper this past wee while I’ve noticed a gradual ‘drop-off’ on the number of comments and posters posting in support of the serving first minister / tSNP.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvCUmrx4BG0?t=184 (name the bad fish!)
As a knock-on effect I’ve also noticed that the number of ‘up-ticks’ on reader comments are now increasing and in support of alternative views of those whom are critical about the performance and governance of the serving first minister / tSNP.
With what’s been revealed about the Scottish Government and their associates this very day… wouldn’t it be nice if the self-proclaimed independence supporting newspaper ‘The National’ could be bent to the persuasion of more politically critical points of view from outwith the serving first minister / tSNP bubble?
PS You can now up-tick comments on The National without registering.
Is the levee about to break? 😉
One can but hope it is!

Good movie.
Absolutely agree with Maggie Mellon. The original GRA was a mistake. A legal fiction. This in itself was wrong.
Whatever problems are experienced by individuals, they should not be ‘addressed’ by creating the lie that they can ‘change sex.’ No more than it is possible to address anorexia by colluding with a thin individual that he or she is obese.
Instead, the underlying issues, whether due to personal trauma/abuse or having social stereotyping imposed on them (boys wear blue, girls wear pink, boys play with trucks, girls with dolls etc) need to be resolved.
The 2004 GRA requires thorough review with a view to possible abolition and at very least revision. For example – the power for public organisations to exclude ‘trans’ individuals with GRCs from specific single sex services and opportunities should be made a Duty.
The problem is that it was never envisaged in 2004 that public organisations would become captured by Queer Theory activists, in particular misogynistic Trans Activists.
On the contrary it was expected that organisations would rush to use the exemptions which is why they were other to be proportionate. However the reverse has happened. And it all began with a huge error of judgment and denial of biological reality.
Excellent summary, Joan. Entirely agree. We have to get the 2004 GRA repealed and Equality Act strengthened. They are being used to make more and more demands. Even the six+ decades ago access to female spaces and rights of ‘transitioned’ males was a hugely arrogant assumption by sexologists and psychologists of the time. No one asked women. No one at the Yogyakarta meetings asked women. No one at the human rights meetings asked women.
It opened the door to this latest wave of ‘trans’ which most experts in the field agree is being driven by porn and the constant pushing of women’s and children’s boundaries. Unless we all see this for what it is – a parasitical invasion for lady feelz and men’s rights – I don’t think we have a snowball’s chance in hell of beating it. The ‘true trans’ nonsense has to stop because it is being used to keep the door to our spaces, rights, services, etc. open. If these men really just wanted to get on with their lives, they would have campaigned for their own spaces years ago. Nothing shows this up more for what it really is than asking all men to stay out of our spaces and rights. The rage and tantrums are very telling in that these men are being told, no, by women.
Neither the 2004 GRA nor the 2010 Equality Act were intended to have the consequences they are having. None of this was envisaged in either 2004 or 2010. This is down to Stonewall and its skulking billionaire funders. Every public institution, and many private ones, have been completely colonised by this aggressive ‘trans’ lobby, lied to about the law and virtue-signalled into capitulating everything. They have been captured because they have not even bothered to ascertain what the law actually says, and as a consequences, they are gravely disadvantaging women in the workplace and elsewhere, against workplace rules and human rights, and they are sacrificing children to this monstrosity.
