Reacting to the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Spring Statement today (Wednesday) ALBA Depute Leader Kenny MacAskill MP for East Lothian said:
“The Chancellor has completely failed to take the action necessary to mitigate the cost of living crisis. He is raking in the revenues from Scotland’s oil while at the same time as he is betraying Scots families.
“The increase in oil company profits arising from the hike in global oil prices makes the strongest possible case yet for a Windfall Tax on the oil companies, the revenues from which should be used fund a zero rate of VAT on fuel.
“The Chancellor also failed to act on the abolition or reduction of standing charges for energy customers, or the introduction of a social tariff to help the one in three Scottish households facing fuel poverty as a result of the increase in average energy bills of £700 this April.
“That is why we need Independence if families in Scotland are to escape this cost of living crisis and to see real action on fuel poverty.”
We’ll said Kenny.
It’s a pity others don’t call him out for the weasel that he is.

Kenny unfortunately has forgotten or glossed over how “Profit and Loss” Accounts actually work or perhaps just conveniently forgot this small issue for the moment to gain maximum momentum. Energy companies that were encouraged to exit Russian contracts and partnerships quite legally and rightly will be able to write down any incurred financial losses against financial gains from the rising Oil and Gas prices. But no Politician lets tough fact get in the way when there is a propaganda oppertunity to make.

I hope for those who think Scotland is a subsidy junkie read this article. We subsidise the UK our colonial masters are laughing at us while they extort our natural resources and charges us exuberantly for the privilege. Remember how we were told oil and gas is worthless. What rights do they have to oil, or gas, or renewable wind or hydro energy at reasonable prices.
Absolutely stalwart stoic people their sacrifice is commendable. Going cold in a country more than self sufficient in oil gas and renewable electricity should be a source of utter pride. How dare Kenny MacAskill challenge the chancellor about hard hard times ahead.
I mean looking at the GCC area I see today that a litre of petrol in Qatar is £0.16, whilst £0.23 in Dubai and the UAE|, whilst £0.46 a litre in Saudia Arabia. Who would want to like them with their oil wealth, new infrastructure, new industries and overall wealth founded upon oil.
In fact, nearer home how could we ever want to be like Norway which has an Oil Fund worth around £270,000 for every man woman and child. Norway’s ultra high standard of living is an obscenity. How can they not have a pig poor fuel stressed populace like proud Scotland. I mean all this social equality and wealth its obscene. Norway should hang its head in shame.
And we have more hair shirt to look forward to following Rishi Sunak’s announcement to the Commons yesterday when he said that the rise in inflation is going to cause the biggest fall in living standard since ONS records began in 1956 – 1957.
Hard but proud times for us all ahead. We will, I am sure, wear our poverty with pride, a badge of honour. That is our way. And shame on Mr MacAskill for raising his concerns about lack of support for the families who will fall on hard times in our energy and resource rich Scotland.
TBQH I really don’t care whether Kenny or Blah blah Blackford get up and call bozo a liar or rishi unfeeling or priti disgusting , it makes NO DIFFERENCE we don’t count , they laugh at us whilst STEALING our resources and keeping us BEGGING for our OWN money , and we have politicians who play by their archaic rules and act gentlemanly by apologising for using unparliamentary language , when all the time they ARE LYING CORRUPT UNFEELING SCUM , but there again when your being paid £80,000+ + massive expenses a few sweaty sock jibes doesn’t really hurt and after all it is ONLY normal working class voters who are cold and hungry and SUFFERING ,bring on the revolution
