  • Sorry Roddy I didn’t enjoy this podcast. Nothing to do with any technical issues or anything related to you and Dot. I just found the picture that Dot painted of the stuff happening in the SNP horrific. Someone has left the door open and the mad dogs have got in. I thought I voted for a party that was focussed on independence. The leader has to take responsibility for the state of the party and that includes the malicious persecution of Salmond. I hope I do not have a mad dog standing in Eastwood in 2021because that would piss me off.

    A husband and wife team at the top was never right in the first place – that would be obvious in any organisation that is not a private family business.

    I can make allowances for policies I don’t like but what’s the point if the SNP are only kidding about independence. My trust in the SNP under this leadership is at an all time low.

    • I didn’t enjoy it either but it is surely a valuable piece of communication for commentators.

      SNP’s causes are probably not helped by taking seriously under-miners, devisives and malcontents from NEC and elsewhere in the growing Scottish political spectrum.

      The YES cause is obviously something else, although we are very very connected.

      • I have to say I found the podcast very helpful. A number of things said confirm my own experiences with dealing with both the current National Secretary and senior SNP staff at HQ.

        If Dorothy hadn’t bravely told what she has seen and heard then we would all still be in the dark. A big thanks for shedding light.

        It’s why I after 2 months of demanding action have lodged a legal action and it’s why I am putting my name forward for National Secretary. We all need to help our party get back on track. Indyref must be next year 2021 brexit will be in full swing. We start the next campaign on over 50% YES.

  • Quite an eye opener, Roddy, but in many ways, no more than I suspected. The NEC is in a shambles, and I think without giving any names away, there is a certain group that is behind the chaos. And even if they never get any further than the NEC (meaning they don’t get elected to run for candidate), they have caused enough damage to potentially ruin the last chance we may have for Independence. That really angers me. But it could only happen through LETTING it happen. The person in charge pf the NEC, the ‘Leader’, is smart, understands law, is diplomatic etc. and quite capable of keeping these people in line (though how that person didn’t suspect the kind of people they were before they got onto the NEC, I’m sure I don’t know… unless they did and were okay with it) IF they want to do so. So…. why do they not want to do that? How has this clique been allowed to stir this chaos without being admonished, is another question which ends with ‘unless their behaviour is found to be acceptable’. No matter what I ask myself, I seem to find a negative answer, rather than a positive one! And these negative answers indicate there is something REALLY SMELLY in Demark!

    I got frustrated when Dot said it would help if Angus McNeill & Chris McEleny brought to Conference more than just the suggestion we need a Plan B, but brought something more concrete. Why? Is there no one at Conference that reads, that talks to ‘people’, that sounds out legal people… but doesn’t know of other methods of obtaining independence? I’m not a member now – I wouldn’t be at Conference, but I know off the top of my head of THREE very good methods of obtaining independence that could be used, that are legal and which would get us independence, with the approbation of other countries & the UN. I think Chris & Angus are trying to get Conference to just consider switching to a Plan B rather than sit wasting more time on Plan A! But if Dot feels that details are necessary, okay lets waste more time asking about these other plans then go away so they ‘look into’ those methods! Time we don’t have! Sorry – I like Dot & that wasn’t meant as a criticism. Just frustration at the idea of using up time we don’t have…

    I wondered why Dot didn’t talk to you about the EU now taking WM to court for reneging on an International Treaty. Perhaps this interview was done before it came up in the news. It made me wonder how she feels abt the fact that if the EU’s legal team reckon that WM has broken many treaties through the IMB, particularly in their case the GFA, then it must follow that the ToU is ALSO broken. In which case, we are independent already. (Personally I don’t think it’s done till the queen ratifies it, but EU legal eagles seem to think its already done as they are already warning a court case is now ‘in hand’.) If such is the case. We don’t need a Sec.30, don’t need an IndyRef, don’t need a Plan B, don’t need to go to any Courts. WM have decided to kill the ToU, without any input from THIS ‘signatory’ (and whether the Scots unionists want indy or not. They didn’t get a say!). A Ref wasn’t needed to determine how many WANT indy as we were given no choice! (The only reason for a Ref now would be to establish whether Scotland wanted to beg to get back into a NEW union, with new terms. And I hardly think we’re going to set a Ref up for THAT!) So indy – for all the talk, was Quick, easy & clean. Now all that remains is to start negotiating the terms of the separation. Why have HR not seen that as a distinct possibility & brazened it out with WM? Why is no one seeing this for what the EU see it and why are we not doing the same?? Why are we not talking about this?? Would WM have the legaleese to turn to us & say ‘it doesn’t work that way’? NO. Because it has NEVER been established how Indy is done. We face the bullies & say, PROVE IT! And make them take US to court, make THEM prove they can break the Treaty & still control us. And if necessary, fight it in the courts for YEARS! Meanwhile we work as if we are already independent.

    Why is that not a good Plan worth pursuing now? I’d love to hear what Dot thinks. (I think she’s a really sensible lady, wants indy us much as we do & and won’t just write off anything that isn’t Plan A)… To be honest, I’m wondering if that is part of what Joanna was suggesting? But I’m so aware of time passing, I need to know that SOMEONE has something like this, in mind. Gosh, I’d be reassured if I knew anyone had ANY OTHER plan ready to put in place… *sigh*…

    • A very interesting post Kate. As a bare minimum there are all manner of things that could be done to put pressure on Westminster to concede a sec 30 but the SNP are not even doing that. Just to be clear I believe the sec 30 gold standard to be nonsense but as I say they are not even taken actions to try and pressure Westminster other than saying just keep voting for us in elections. Scotland has no democracy, never has, so why would Westminster suddenly agree to something they don’t want just because Scots voted for it.

      England has nearly 600 MPs Scotland was forced into a marriage of subjugation and subservience in 1707 with only 59 MPs.

      Westminster has been asset stripping Scotland since 1707 and they ain’t going to just stop because Scots say they want a referendum.

      Sorry to say but the current SNP leadership seem to be frauds to me. Nicola having a secret plan in her handbag just waiting to be pulled out is ………….

    • Kate,
      For some time now I’ve been of the impression that the SNP have been infiltrated. By whom? I have my own thoughts but many others will think the same.
      The SNP are on a downward spiral and if they pursue putting certain candidates in certain constituencies, they’ll be on a hiding to nothing.
      The only reason the SNP are in power is the fact they are the peoples vehicle to Independence.
      If they don’t deliver Independence, we’ll back someone who will.
      Nothing is a given.

  • I have to concur, Cubby. As Roddy said, Nicola is a very capable woman, an excellent First Minister, an exceptional diplomat & very skilled at working with all manner of people. But re independence, as I see it – she’s either not aggressive enough to face up to the WM bullies & take us to Independence – or she doesn’t want to. Because like you, I don’t believe there is ANY scenario where bozo will agree to a Sec.30 and if WE can see it, I have absolutely no doubt that Nicola can. She’s a lawyer, she’s smart – so I ask myself why does SHE not see it? SHE DOES. Soooo… why are we still waiting on that? She is also smart enough to know that time is of the essence here! Yet I was able to list 14 things on Grumpy Scottish Man’s blog that she promised to do to get us Indy Ready… none of them are happening. As I see it, as far as she is concerned, Indy isn’t happening.

    I don’t wish that to sound like… I dunno… that I am anti-Nicola… I was one of her top fans last Christmas, truly believed because I know she’s very smart, the ole ‘keeping my cards next to my chest to not let the other players see what I’m plotting’ line. Then… I started noticing… her promises were really no better than Better Together’s… None have been kept. No cargo ship port between Rosyth/Groningen to bypass need for our trade to go through England, no promised stockmarkets, no Commercial bank (where Scottish money would become the basis of Scottish banking transactions for borrowing/lending with other countries), no Bills in place to ensure Martin’s case win (we don’t require a Sec.30) is legislated for the minute he wins it, au contraire, Scotgov’s AG is arguing Scotgov’s case AGAINST Martin now, a Draft Ref Bill that hasn’t even been started yet, promises of more Ref’s that don’t materialise… yada yada yada…

    I know people don’t like to hear it soooo… I wonder what these people think all that (and much more!) adds up to? If they can give me PROOF that she is doing something, I’d be happy to listen and happier she’s got this…

    As I said above, there are many ways to gain independence but to be honest, given that EU believes the new IMB has broken many International treaties, and is now taking UK to court they’re so sure, I have to believe the ToU is ALSO broken! I believe that we are actually independent at this moment, as I write this! (Though unlike EU, I think it needs to go to the HoLs (HoCs can override HoLs findings so no biggie) and has to be signed & ratified by the queen to be official. But in all senses of the word, we are pretty much independent AT THIS MOMENT. If EU legal people see it like that, why are OUR OWN PEOPLE not seeing it or using this opportunity to get the lawyers involved? Why are they not standing up to the WM BULLIES & saying ‘You did it yourselves, and we are now free. From this moment on, our Revenues stay in Scotland!’ We’ll be back next week to negotiate our leaving settlement. Thanks for everything (NOT).” And just walk.

    I think, from what Joanna Cherry said, that she may well be looking at just this broken Treaty Article 19. I hope so! Because I’m pretty scunnered that no one else is prepared to face the bullies & make THEM prove it ISN’T broken & that we’re still their servants. If you break a Treaty, you are no longer in the club & the other members no longer have to follow your rules. This is our PERFECT ‘get out’ clause. This has dropped into our laps & – our leaders should jolly well be liaising & working with EU on this and generally making a meal of it! So where are they?

  • I didn’t enjoy it either but it is surely a valuable piece of communication for commentators.

    SNP’s causes are probably not helped by taking seriously under-miners, devisives and malcontents from NEC and elsewhere in the growing Scottish political spectrum.

    The YES cause is obviously something else, although we are very very connected.

  • Great interview Roddy in spite of the technical issues, what I took from what Dot said was if we believe we’re a nation (and we are a nation) we have to start acting like one, we will never restore our independence by the good graces of the British state, section 30 is a dead end it is the antithesis of what we’re fighting for,

    At some point there has to be a confrontation, it’s unavoidable we need a leader who is prepared to stand up and defy the British establishment, hold our own referendum and challenge them to stop us, sadly that leader is not Nicola Sturgeon, She has to go

    • The concern I have that is that they are pulling the same tricks they used on the Scottish parliament 313 years ago on today’s parliamentaians. Namely, spies, bribes, threats blackmail, intimidation etc etc.

  • Brave lady, Dot. It needed saying. This has been a take-over of the party, certainly the NEC, by elements that do not have independence as their core preoccupation. The speed by which identity politics have captured not just the UK, and Scotland, but the entire West, is suggestive of something much bigger going on that we are not seeing at the moment.

    However, as Dot said, it is very similar to the takeover of the Labour Party by Militant, that certainly chimed with what I see it as, too. Militant got up people’s noses, while the GRA and trans issues have made invertebrates of many, and seem to have made usually sensible people turn cartwheels to try and appear ‘cool’ and ‘nice’ and speak the most awful nonsense supporting science denial.

    I can understand why this has captured the NEC and much of the parliamentary party because this is very much a Nicola Sturgeon approach to everything – be nice, be understanding, be endlessly pleasant to people who are actual b******s, and who would cut your throat if you opposed them. The bullying, misogynist trans lobby gets away with this precisely because their bullying and misogyny is overlaid by a veneer of ‘niceness’, but they are totalitarian, authoritarian anti democrats.

    It is the supreme irony when the only party that natal women can turn to, that has not joined the anti-women league, is the Tory party. What would happen if all natal women in the SNP and wider independence movement, who are opposed to the trans takeover, started joining the Tories? Independence out the window. Fortunately, most women are not going to do that – probably to the chagrin of these careerists, parasites and colonizers, who use the party as a vehicle for their own agenda and ambitions. If Dot is targeted, as Joanna Cherry was, we all need to offer our support. We need everyone to stand four-square behind them and refuse to have them hounded by these monstrous people.

    I would like to say here that, if the ‘full fat’ GRA goes through – where any man can, legally, claim to be a woman, IN LAW – the only long-term result must be that women are extirpated from history and society, and replaced by trans women because we will have no LEGAL basis on which to object when they move into every area of female existence.

    Some appear to believe that I am being extremist when I say that, but people need to think about why women had to fight for their rights and spaces: because most men were not willing to share; because most men wanted to keep them tied to the home; because most men did not want women to own anything of their own. A great deal has changed for us, although we still have some way to go.

    How can it be fair or equitable or just or democratic within any interpretation of human rights for a group of natal men, who will be able to remain as natal men, yet claim they are women, in reality, in law, to occupy women’s sex-based rights and spaces? Men are what they are. Why would trans women be any different? Many appear to believe that trans women will share and be all girly cosy. They won’t. Not once they have the power to be themselves and women, too. Is Westminster, the bane of Scots independence for nigh on a thousand years, fair, equitable, just or democratic towards us? That answers the question. Just as women need to fight back, so does Scotland. Nothing less than independence will suffice for both. England-as-the-UK will have to learn to be just England, and trans women will have to learn to be trans women without piggy-backing on women.

  • Very interesting and fair. My concern is that I found it by accident while searching for information on the Independence for Scotland Party. Please can someone with more technical expertise than me get this into the public eye proper, posting on Facebook doesn’t seem to quite do it justice.

  • Absolutely spot-on comments from Lorna and Kate . Nothing to add , you both said it all ; if only there were people like yourselves on the NEC .

  • Scotland now has its own world class cover up scandal. The cover up may be of a high standard but like all cover ups they unravel bit by bit and the cover up often tends to make the original scandal worse.

    Can’t agree with that Cubby, this whole plot has to be the most amateurish conspiracy and cover up in the history of conspiracies & cover ups, it’s so transparent it’s embarrassing

    • Graeme

      I think you misunderstand me – probably due to my poor choice of words. I certainly do not admire anything about this whole scandal and the attempted cover up.

      World class not as in good but as in reference to the scale of it. I meant to refer to the scale of the explosion it will cause and the impact it will have on so many. Nicola Sturgeon has built up this strong personality cult in the SNP that people struggle to handle the truth and prefer to turn away.

      What is embarrassing is all the look away/wheest for Indy supporters thinking if you don’t look at the big bad bogey man it will go away. It won’t of course. The most hypocritical are bloggers who know what is going on but refuse to tell their readers what they need to know.

  • Thank you for this.

    I enjoyed Dot’s patient, calm, fair analysis and description of the situation. A welcome change from the rush to point fingers of blame, or paint individuals or view points as ogres.

    I appreciated her focus on the future. As she has mentioned elsewhere:
    getting a clear plan B on the agenda;
    planning on the basis that ‘devolution’ has already been stolen;
    moving ‘affiliated groups’ to an advisory panel;
    restoring party democracy;
    applying disciplinary processes fairly.
    And most important of all, putting independence at the top of the agenda if the party, NEC, leadership, members, supporters, nation.
    These are the urgent matters.

    I can well understand Nicola’s desire for a safe, quiet life of hoping things will somehow resolve themselves.

    But life doesn’t work like that. Unless you advance, you retreat. And sometimes you need to confront short term pain, to avoid far worse in the longer term.
