As we head into midsummer and after just two weeks of an English Labour Government we note that the more things change at Westminster the more they stay the same.
The first Labour budget showed that the slogan they should have deployed during the election was Vote Labour for No Change whatsoever. Austerity is here forever as is transferring the wealth of the nation from the poor to the rich. The invoice for this will, of course, be sent to the poor.
This week finds Phil Boswell in transit to Spain, so the panel is Eva Comrie, Lloyd Quinan who are joined by Allan Petrie and Annmarie Ward.
Our first topic of discussion was the SNP ‘Oliver Twist’ grovel to the new English Business As Usual Government. The SNP signalled their intent to be ‘Scotland’s Voice’ in the English Parliament by asking for a 4 Nations Summit on eradicating poverty! What a lovely bunch of Little Brits our 9 SNP MPs have shown themselves to be!
Here’s an idea Stephen Flynn why not instead call a summit in Scotland to set up Constitutional Convention to eradicate poverty forever without the need to beg on bended knee to our colonisers?
This request for a 4 Nations summit comes in the same week when Scottish born English Nationalist Ian Murray our new ‘English Viceroy of Scotland’ announced a whopping £10.5 million to explore space. I am no astronaut but even I know that such a paltry sum wouldn’t pay the fuel bill of one Elon Musk rocket! It did though give Rocket Murray what he wanted, our corrupt foreign owned media gave it front page standing as if it was some great investment to make a huge difference to Scotland’s satellite industry. Such generosity from our betters in London I hope you are grateful Scotland. Sadly, no doubt those Scots who find critical thinking beyond them will applaud this con job.
It deflected from Starmer’s decision to suspended 7 Labour MPs for daring to support an SNP Amendment to scrap the two-child rape clause Bill. If anyone was in any doubt that we have just replaced one English neoliberal Government with another now have their answer. It should also tell those SNP dunderheids that the ‘Willie Bain Principle’ is alive and well in this latest English Labour Government.
Another non surprise was delivered to the people of the English Union by the new Chancellor Rachel Reeves. That old chestnut that financially things are worse than Labour had imagined in opposition was deployed, shockeroonie we didn’t see that coming! That is code for austerity will continue indefinitely and the Tories will get the blame. It also gives Labour cover to not enact any policies that will alleviate any of the cost of living crisis all are enduring.
This austerity, of course, does not apply to Ukraine or Israel who will continue to receive your tax largesse to kill innocents in far off lands. English self-delusion on being a world power will continue unabated as you struggle to keep the lights on and a roof over your head! No financial constraints on those two US proxy wars!
Other highlights this week were Lisa Nandy our new Culture Secretary, she who believes Scottish voters should be clubbed by armed militias as they stand at polling stations attempting to exact their democratic right. Her latest idiocy is her belief that Transwomen or MEN to describe them correctly should be allowed to compete against adult human females in all sports. So those of you that voted Labour to teach the SNP a lesson about the absurdity of their slavish devotion to Stonewall Gender issues take a bow! It is YOU that has been taught a lesson, never trust an English political party with your vote!
Meanwhile, Joanna Cherry has declared she is stepping back from front-line politics until such times as the SNP reform, focus on independence and kick out the gender nutters and policies. Don’t hold your breath Joanna!
However, the most despicable and nauseating event of the week happened across the Atlantic in Washington DC. A week after the world’s top court found Israel guilty of breaching international law and committing genocide the US Congress welcomed the fascist and baby killer Netanyahu with 58 standing ovations as he lied, and lied, and lied.
What genocide says the American lawmakers? Look bad Hamas, bad Muslims, bad Iran let’s kill them all and the US lawmakers all clapped and cheered. Our world is being destroyed by the liars and deniers, the warmongers and the greedy, the baby killers and the bought.
Those of us who are revolted at the killing of innocent civilians in Palestine or Ukraine are the ones held up to ridicule and name calling by the global elite and their poodles in the media.
We must not allow ourselves to be bullied or silenced about domestic inequality or global genocide. We should not accept mirrors and beads from our rulers and remain docile. We need to raise our voices and have the courage to say,’Enough is enough, not in my name!’
The electorate in Scotland will come very quickly to hate the new Labour dovernment in Westminster as much as they hated the old Tory government.
Starmer is every bit as much the Tory as Sunak or Johnston were. He and his team are neo liberal to the core. The refusal to reverse the detested Tory two child benefit cap, along with the suspension of seven MPs for six months, and maybe out of the party is evidence of that.
And if it’s war you want, Sir Keir Starmer like Sir Tony Blair is your man.
No one should be under any illusion this new Westminster Labour government is but a continuation of the Tory government.
Super show as usual folks. By the way, Eva was right about Ukranians returning home for a visit. I know one who went back to go to their dentist. Lucky them – I can’t even get a bloody dentist. Same person now has a very good, well paid job and thinks all Ukranian “refugees” should be given settled status. Meanwhile a friend’s daughter in law, who has a child born here, has to apply every so many years to be allowed to stay. Wrong colour, obviously. Settled Polish people in this country must be terrified and angry at the thought of their old nazi enemies being so warmly welcomed. Lest we forget, eh? aye, right.
Actually, there is a way they could help alleviate poverty right now. They could scrap the hated council tax and introduce a fairer tax system based on your income. Oh wait. How stupid of me to forget. If council tax is scrapped, wouldn’t MSP’s then have to pay even more tax than they are paying now under the current council tax system where the maximum council tax you can pay assuming you live in a Band H property is £4,500 a year roughly? Not taking into account of course the fact that just because you earn 71k a year does not automatically mean you are automatically in one of the higher bands E to H for council tax. Let’s suppose the council tax is scrapped in favour of the SSP’s Scottish Service Tax. On a salary of 71k, an MSP would be expected to pay £717.50 a month which over a year is £8610. That is almost double what someone in a band H property would pay. Now a cabinet secretary earns £126,000 a year as does the presiding officer. They would pay 20k a year in service tax which is about £1740 a month. John Swinney on his first minister salary of £176,000 would be £32,380 over a year, and £2698.33 a month. Ah, now we see exactly why they won’t scrap the council tax because they don’t like that their taxes will go up. Also they think that a lot of their take home pay is being taken away when they pay income tax and national insurance so they see that they can save money by keeping the council tax because the council tax will be keeping their taxes low. Now let’s look at ordinary working people and see how they’d fair from the service tax. Now I think it’s fairly obvious to state that most working class people in work now earn between 20 to 35k and I’d say the majority of people are within this income window. Now we all know that with the current council tax system, the amount payable is on a range of about £800 for a band A property to about £4,500 if in a band H property. Most people are in band D for council tax. Now on a salary of 20k a year you’d pay £450 a year or £37.50 a month. Now I don’t know about you but that looks like a tax cut to me for low earners.? But do the SNP not love to claim that scrapping the council tax isn’t a popular policy in Scotland? Hhhhmm? Not popular for them perhaps but certainly not unpopular if you’re a 20 to 35k a year earner which most working class people in Scotland are. Now let’s look at what someone earning 25k a year would pay. £675 a year is what someone would pay earning 25k a year which is of course £56.25 a month. 30k salary is £900. 35k salary is £1650 or £137.50 a month. We now see that to catch up with the current council tax system a worker needs to be on a salary of 35k a year to be paying what they’d be expected to pay currently under the current council tax system. Now lets not forget that a lot of people right now will be paying more than £137.50 a month in council tax and on nowhere a salary of 35k a year to cover the £137.50 a month in ct. So being on a salary of 35k a year is a steal in a way (meaning that that the majority of working class people in Scotland would save money every month) because of the monthly savings we can all make from scrapping the council tax. So there you have it. So overall, the question we can now ask is this, is scrapping the hated council tax as unpopular as the SNP love to claim it is, given the numbers, or are the SNP and MSP’s just a bunch of self-serving arseholes who want things kept in place that maintain their own position?
