Perfidious Albion.

The UK government always intended to “ditch” the Northern Ireland protocol, Boris Johnson’s former adviser Dominic Cummings has claimed.

In a string of tweets, Cummings said the flawed Brexit, deal had been a way to get out of the electoral doldrums and “whack Corbyn”, and “of course” the government should be allowed to “sometimes break deals… like every other state does.” (Except for viewers in Scotland! )

Such is the mind of the English Imperial beings in London. Perfidious Albion is the term to describe the British. It was even used by the President of the Spanish Football Federation after Spain’s 1950 World Cup victory over England. He sent a telegram to President Franco that read, “we have beaten Perfidious Albion.”

This wasn’t the first time this phrase had been used to describe England and its dealings with other nations. As long ago as the 13th Century nations referred to England as Perfidious Albion. I have myself on many occasions used the saying,’why did the sun never set on the British Empire, because God couldn’t trust the English in the dark.

We know that our own accursed Treaty of Union was broken by the English before the ink of the Scottish traitors signatures had even dried. They continue to break that Treaty every single day, and it is high time our elected politicians held the English to account for these constant breaches.

Our Celtic cousins and neighbours in Ireland were not slow to react to Cummings confession. The much respected ex-Taoiseach of Ireland and the present Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has described as “alarming” comments made by British prime minister Boris Johnson’s former chief adviser Dominic Cummings suggesting the British government signed the Northern Ireland protocol knowing it would not honour it.

Mr Varadkar said the comments by Mr Cummings, the British prime minister’s main adviser until November last year, indicated the British government as an administration “acted in bad faith” and that was something that needed to be heard around the world as Britain attempts to strike post-Brexit trade deals with other countries.

“If the British government doesn’t honour its agreements, it doesn’t adhere to treaties it signs, that must apply to everyone else too.”

He said the British administration was currently going around the world trying to negotiate new trade agreements.

Surely the message must go out to all countries around the world that this is a British government that doesn’t necessarily keep its word and doesn’t necessarily honour the agreements it makes. And you shouldn’t make any agreements with them until such time as you’re confident that they keep their promises, and honour things, for example, like the protocol,” he said.

Leo is right, and he was not scared to say it in defence of Ireland. It is most unusual for politicians to be so forthright. Indeed, it is usually couched in terms that almost need explaining to the untrained undiplomatic ear. Not on this occasion, good old Leo didn’t miss, he made it quite clear, the Brits should not be trusted they act in bad faith. It has always been the case.

Yet here in Scotland as our Treaty of Union the only thing that actually binds us to the economic union on the British mainland is trashed and broken every day our political leaders remain silent. Worse still our current First Minister has informed us she is depending on Perfidious Albion and its government to repair the effects of Covid and Brexit. She, unlike Leo Varadkar is very careful with her language so as not to upset the Unionists and House-Jocks in Scotland. Ambiguity is the First Ministers middle name. Everything she says has a get out clause. Everything she says has to have plausible deniability, otherwise our First Minister just won’t say it.

Avoiding responsibility is more important to Nicola Sturgeon than taking responsibility. We need courage, not someone trying to play both ends against the middle. If we act like that Westminster will play us like a fiddle and that is exactly what is happening now. We do not need someone trying to tread a fine line, a middle ground strategy. That just won’t work, it will never lead to independence.

Nations do not get away from the parasitic Westminster by being timid. We need courage and straight talking like that of Leo Varadkar or Mary Lou MacDonald of Sinn Fein. They tell the British just how it is and what the consequences will be if Perfidious Albion strays from any agreements.

Scotland cannot afford to wait while Sturgeon and Johnson play their stupid games. This Tory Government is destroying the last vestiges of legality and decency in the UK. A financial raping of the UK’s resources is in full swing. The only beneficiaries are the Tories, their friends and donors as well as the Panamanian Banks.

The poor are being abandoned so that the rich can gorge on the public purse. Lies are the order of the day. Why would any Scottish politician trust the English imperialists with Scotland’s well being?

We know Sturgeon loves being front and centre. Nothing is more important to Nicola Sturgeon than Nicola Sturgeon. No other SNP Cabinet Secretary, MSP, MP or spokesperson is allowed to take the spotlight away from the Covid Queen.

Ask the best and most able SNP elected person, Joanna Cherry MP about that. Why is Philippa Whitford, MP, not an MSP and our Cabinet Secretary for Health and heading up the Covid response of the Scottish Government? Simple, that would mean Sturgeon standing aside and allowing a more able health person take the limelight! Philippa is not only a very able MP she is a remarkable surgeon a trained health professional and respected globally for her work and achievements.

With COP 26 looming Nicola is desperate to be involved and be viewed by the world as someone of importance. Boris Johnson has made it quite clear she will have no major role to play. She may replace the Lord Provost of Glasgow in welcoming the guests to the city. More likely she will have no role whatsoever as Johnson puts the Scots in their place and reminds us all the Scotland belongs to England to do with as it pleases. Steal our resources then sell them back to us with the highest fuel and energy prices in the UK. Tell us who can and who cannot move to Scotland. Tell us where to send our goods to be exported and counted. Take all our revenues and allocate back to us whatever the English rulers decide is a fitting sum.

Daily we are humiliated as a nation and a people. Daily our First Minister remains silent and continues to participate in a four nations approach to most matters but especially and most disastrously in Covid. The death rate in Scotland is one of the highest in the world. Yet our First Minister and her acolytes lie to us trying to tell us what a magnificent job she has done with the pandemic. A quick look at similar nations with populations like ours tells a different story. Norway, Denmark, Austria, show just how badly Sturgeon and her 4 nation Covid approach has been for the nation. So many avoidable deaths are on her watch.

It is time we were more like our Celtic cousins and called out Perfidious Albion for its deceit and lies. It is time to say you have acted in bad faith since 1707 and we will no longer tolerate your ways. Scotland is withdrawing from this Treaty of Union just as the UK withdrew from the European Treaty of Union. It really is that simple only House-Jocks, Unionists and cowardly Scots will try to tell you it is not that straightforward.

Meanwhile, if you are at COP 26 for any reason and need to use the Car Park look out for any familiar faces. I hear one of the attendants loves taking selfies with the public.

  • Of all the Nations of this planet who have at some point suffered exploitation under The direction of the Ruling Class in London Ireland has the longest history and therefore the most sustained and brutal occupation of their Island. No one has been lied to more.
The current behaviour of the London elite regarding this treaty will have come as no surprise to them. They know that the word of a UK PM cannot be trusted ever.
My question is a simple one – Why are we still in a Union that was created by the same type of people who lied, cheated and threatened OUR Nation?

    • Geoff – In answer to your question we have Scots quislings willing ( for a reward) to do our imperial masters’ bidding. And a very, very skewed and dishonest media.

I suggest we start using the terms ‘quisling’ ; ‘ imperial masters ‘ ; ‘house jock’ and ‘useful idiot ‘ a whole lot more. And we vote for politicians who use these words to accurately describe british loyalists.

And I suggest we start calling the genderwoowoo – ‘ the new puritans ‘. I believe the downfall of the new puritans is just around the corner. Please don’t forget who cheerled for these misogynists.

  • They never behaved quite as bad in Scotland as in England, because there was no sea to ‘dilute’ their bad behaviour.

    Another great article Barhead.

2 possible further outcomes… America, they support Ireland across the Republican/Democrat divide, and they co-signed the GFA. They will, at grass routes level, not stand idly by and have it traduced and the troubles start up again.

And secondly, if the troubles do start up again (and the powers in England would love that), then we in Scotland need to be prepared now.
For in the first instance they will send in Scottish Police. And the reality of that, is we will end up with a brutal and brutilised sqaud of Police Officers returned to serve in Scotland, with some very unsavoury habits.

However, on a positive note, its worth pointing out, the British/English army is not even 1/3 the size it was in the ’70’s. They simply do not have the soldiers to do another occupation of NI, and with the internet and camera phones they can no longer control the narrative in the same way as when it was just the good old BBC/ITV set up.

  • That right-winger Leo Varadker can find, otherwise, unimaginable common-ground with Mary Lou McDonald vis-a-vis Perfidious Albion, is a further damning indictment of the willfully calculated naivety of this Scottish colonial administration.

      • @Geoff Anderson Yes indeed, Geoff. Nonetheless, the Blueshirts and the Shinners agreeing on anything is a remarkable phenomenon in itself, which shows that in the final analysis, the integrity of the Irish Republic transcends their myriad differences. Consider what we’re stuck-with to defend the integrity of Scotland: a calculating, self interested colonialist gang.

  • > Avoiding responsibility is more important to Nicola Sturgeon than taking responsibility.

This sums everything up nicely, from rejecting devolved powers on Social Security through to “Tories Baaaaaad!!”. Everything the SNP does is driven by Presentational Politics where everything must look good and nothing which might make the leader or the party look bad is undertaken. The only problem is once you look past the headlines of the supplicant media it’s all failure, all of the time.

People are too busy trying to put food on the table and have little time to dig deeper. If they did the wool-pulling would be quickly over as they realise just how dismal the government is.

By the way, “Perfidious Albion” is the way the UK is routine referred to here in Portugal by all the media. The country has a long history of dealing with the depravations of the British.

  • They should never have signed the English drawn up Scotland Act. But that wasn’t the issue with the recent court case. The issue was that the ADMINISTRATION acted outwith their remit because the Scottish GOVERNMENT which sits in the parliament of GB did not see fit to grant them legislative authority. And with the Scottish government abdicating responsibility for the governance of Scotland, handing the reins to the English government consent was not granted by either government acting on Scotland’s behalf. Thus the court had to hear the case and rule against the administration.

    • Over 100 SNP Amendments were thrown out by 1 Tory MP Mundell hardly a negotiated settlement. 56 Scottish MPs outvited everytime by 553 English MPs and 2 Scottish House Jocks. That is not a Union of equals or democracy that is Imperialism.

  • I’m in total agreement, Roddy. Yours is the approach we need. No beating about the bush. A spade’s a spade and not a bloody shovel. INDEPENDENCE. Nothing less.

  • It would appear that the only government hellbent on honouring and putting up with machinations of Perfidious Albion is the Scottish government under Sturgeon’s tenure, a prime example of this is thousands of Scots have died from drugs abuse over the last few years, yet Sturgeon wouldn’t think of saying to Westminster I’ll do whatever I need to do to save the lives of my fellow Scots, no she wouldn’t dare impinge on a reserved matter, meanwhile Westminster walks all over devolved matters.

From the McCrone Report to the stolen 6,000 miles of Scottish seas ( If you look out to the North sea at Carnoustie, you are now looking at English waters) Westminster has broken the Treaty of Union (it was undemocratic from the beginning) on multiple occasions a grand assembly at Holyrood must now void, and dissolve this union as soon as its convened, however Sturgeon wouldn’t dream of doing that, she can’t even bend the rules on a reserved matter to save the lives of Scots, what chance is their of her saving the whole of Scotland from Perfidious Albion then…none I say.

  • Sturgeon now launching “World leading initiative on Self Harm”
I am not taking anything away from the importance of the topic but it is another empty headline to fluff up the huge void created by her posturing self promotion style.

She avoids every major issue in search of topics that can be spun. We have no reliable data and it will be decades before any credible assessment can be made.
A grubby headline to fool the public devoid of any real substance. A topic were no data can ever show failure.
