YES MOVEMENT NEEDS A CLEAR STRATEGY FOR WHEN BORIS SAYS NO!
Reacting today (Monday) to the SNP Conference speech by the First Minister and SNP Leader Nicola Sturgeon MSP ALBA Westminster Leader Neale Hanvey MP said:
“ Yet again the SNP relaunches the campaign for Independence which we are told is to begin in earnest. But actions speak louder than words and despite a renewed mandate for a Referendum at the May Election there has been precious little action in the seven months since. Independence must not be lost in a time warp yet again.
“ Giving notice of an intention to begin a process that should have begun long ago is one thing, delivering a Referendum in the face of Westminster intransigence is another.
“ What will Nicola do when Boris says no? The Independence movement needs a clear strategy for what happens when Boris Johnson says no to a referendum as he most surely will. Scotland as a sovereign nation should not be seeking permission to hold a referendum but asserting its right to do so.
“ What is required now is a clear determination to face down Westminster, through if necessary, a Convention of all of Scotland’s elected representatives so that it is not just the First Minister against the Prime Minister or Holyrood versus Westminster but a whole nation asserting the sovereign will of the Scottish people.”
Webcom Radio is Now Playing:
Winding down the clock until it is game over and she jets off to who knows where. You don’t ask, you assert your right. You don’t ask with no leverage and hope to get another bowl of gruel. How many times around do they think they can get away with this scam. We should be independent now, and this whole ask/refuse same-old same-old bad franchise route has to be called out for what it is. The whole charade is a very cleverly planned state play, starring their best actor yet. Enter stage left, Nicola Sturgeon.
I couldn’t agree more.
Johnson does not own Scotland. Sturgeon does not own The Cause.
The key to restoring Scottish statehood is indeed “a whole nation asserting the sovereign will of the Scottish people”.
Sturgeon said “Covid permitting” in her speech yesterday.
Covid is the current excuse for no legal date for a referendum being set.
Once that excuse eventually goes the illegal referendum excuse will come in to play.
6 months after the May election and she has not bothered to ask Johnson for a sec30.
Sturgeon is just playing for time.
That’s exactly right, Neale.
I am very concerned at how much time is lost… Particularly now that the SNP, our SNP, has such advanced plans for privatisation of parts of the Scottish NHS.
The time warp pantomime is a distraction while the country is being parcelled up for privatisation of services… Particularly from American companies.
I echo your words: “I am a father, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a patriotic Scot, a republican and a socialist” and they describe me and many, many more other Scots as well!
I was a member of the SNP since my earliest years but recently cancelled that… my ex-party is often called the ‘British SNP’ – when matters reached this stage (the original party was a meritorious one) and we wonder what’s changed this? Regaining Scotland’s independence is essentially more important than any politician or political party!
Thanks for your fine articles,
Ewen
Must say, the more I hear from Neale, my respect and admiration grows.
Both him and Kenny stand for Scotland, unlike the troughers in the adjacent benches.
A damp squib heralds the new SNP campaign for Independence. Probable items 12 & 13 to be added to the 11 point plan.
Although we’re treated as a colony we are NOT A COLONY. An equal partner can walk away from the agreement, if we so wish – any time we choose. So what are we waiting for? Nicola Sturgeon to actually move towards independence? Slightly? Not a snowball’s chance in you know where. But SSRG have the answer!
I look forward to hearing Craig’s speech. Great turn-out for him considering the atrocious weather.
Hi Jan, I agree 100% with your argument regarding Scotland’s sovereignty. The problem for me is: there is no half-way-in, half-way-out possible: you can’t be two things at once, you’re either an independent sovereign nation with complete freedom of action or a ‘dependent’ colony with no freedom of action. We fit the latter category in every measurable way, it seems to me, and will do so until the day arrives when we take it upon ourselves to actively reassert our our sovereignty and effectively dump our English coloniser.
I agree with all of the above and am competely convinced that a referendum and Section 30 are the wrong way to go. A Convention of all Scotland’s elected representatives should work, provided those from the SNP are reminded why we voted for them.
We also need to be aware of the danger of Johnson saying we can have a referendum, as he is devious enough to allow that if it would be on his terms – his franchise, his question, his timing, plus all the propaganda machine of the British Establishment telling us to vote No.
We need to pre-empt that by declaring the End of the Union very soon.
Meanwhile more people from England settle in Scotland, the vast majority of whom will be automatic No voters. Sturgeon must know this.
“YES MOVEMENT NEEDS A CLEAR STRATEGY FOR WHEN BORIS SAYS NO! ”
Sorry, but no it doesn’t, because that would be what we are always doing, reacting to the unionist WM actions or timetable.
It should be for us of no consequence whether Boris J. says no, yes, maybe or even stands up in a duo with NS and farts out Bohemian Rhapsody.
We need to employ our own strategy of what we want, our target which is Independence and define the tactics of how to get there and concentrate on getting it done.
Constitutional Courts, Plebiscites, Scottish Assemblies to terminate the T.o.U. whatever it takes to get the job done.
We should be going our own way, we define what happens and let WM suck it up.
Sturgeon sold us all out when she spat on the offer from the Alba party (and, to their credit, the ISP) to provide the Scottish independence movement with an Holyrood supermajority.
No one has yet questioned her or her MSPs / MPs on this. As soon as they do – they are all finished.
Sturgeon knows she is finished, and that she will become the most hated empty-shirt in Scottish history. That is why she is becoming more shrill and looking more and more haggard.
“Sturgeon knows she is finished, and that she will become the most hated empty-shirt in Scottish history”
Well Second to Nigel Farage only maybe 🙂

I am heartily sick of when Sturgeon is being interviewed by ANY organisation about a referendum or the timing of it her response is ALWAYS ( I do not decide it is the people of Scotland who decide when and how a referendum should happen ) WE the people of Scotland are sick of TELLING YOU , BUT YOU are NOT listening to your employers US , YOU and YOUR party have been elected by the people of Scotland to GOVERN Scotland not to continuously kow tow to boris johnstone or the english parliament , to sit idly by whilst Scotland and her citizens are suffering increased deprivation deliberately foretold and proclaimed by yourself and others as a consequence of Scotland being FORCED out of the EU by a supposed equal partner in a trading union
You and your party have been elected since 2015 as a independence seeking political party which is embedded in the core aims of the party which should be indisputable to anyone voting for your party yet you have done nothing since 2015 to educate and convince NO voters and undecided voters to the benefit and necessity of independence
, you have literally done the exact opposite of what your party stands for , you have openly embraced the unionist mantra of better together by continuously promoting the 4 nations approach , an approach which has most certainly resulted in a higher death rate of Scottish citizens due to the open borders policy of the WM ENGLISH government and their unforgivable FAILURE to procure proper PPE , a government mired in corruption , ineptitude and incompetence which you readily and publicly acclaim yet since 2015 you have done NOTHING , NADA , ZILCH to PROTECT the citizens who elected you and depended on you and your party to deliver us (Scotland from this EVIL or even evel)
It is unfathomable and deeply worrying that you have continuously and conspicuously FAILED to take advantage of situations where our independence would have resulted in a better outcome for our country and citizens , from the brexit debacle to control of our borders in a pandemic you have significantly FAILED the people and citizens of Scotland , If you had ANY integrity or remorse you would RESIGN as FM of Scotland and the SNP
Well he is sort of half right isn’t he ?

I agree with Cubby.
Sturgeon is definitely playing for time.
I remain convinced, she will do whatever is necessary to hold her position, until the Global Reset takes control. Including rolling out the Covid excuse again and again.
Anyone NOT aware of the details of the Global Reset? Again, time is not on your side….
Is there anything more important than Independence?
I thought I would never say this, but yes there is….
