HANVEY CALLS OUT SNP MPS FOR FAILING TO DEFEND SCOTTISH DEMOCRACY

Group Leader Neale Hanvey MP has written to SNP MPs expressing “disappointment” that they chose not to support the Early Day Motion (EDM) which would have allowed a debate and meaningful vote on the Home Office order which extends the scope of the Serious Crime and Police Act 2005 to include the Scottish Parliament building and grounds.  The EDM to annual the law was tabled by him and his fellow ALBA MP Kenny MacAskill and supported by SNP MPs Douglas Chapman and Joanna Cherry.

In his letter Mr Hanvey points out that the motion reflected the views of the resolution, passed by the SNP Conference, by a significant majority in September.

In a statement Neale Hanvey MP said:

“As SNP delegates gather for their conference it is important that they know that, on the issue of draconian powers which limit demonstrations and protest at the Scottish Parliament building and grounds, it is ALBA MPs that have reflected their views as expressed in the SNP Conference resolution in September.

“When Scotland’s proud democratic traditions and civil liberties are under threat it is incumbent on SNP and ALBA MPs to work together to defend Scottish interests.

“While SNP delegates stood up for Scotland the vast majority of SNP MPs have sadly let Scotland down. It is a matter of deep regret that with the honourable exception of Douglas Chapman and Joanna Cherry all other SNP MPs refused to sign a motion that would have ensured a debate and vote on extending the scope of the Serious Crime Act 2005 to include our national Parliament.

“On two separate occasions I reached out to the SNP Group imploring them to work with ALBA to secure a Debate and to revoke this law in line with the views expressed by both ALBA and SNP Conferences.

“SNP MPs must explain to their own conference delegates why they were willing to ride roughshod over the views expressed by SNP Conference in September and why they have chosen to side with Pritti Patel rather than ALBA MPs.

“Despite this setback I continue to hope that as Scottish Nationalist members of a Unionist parliament ALBA and SNP MPs can work collaboratively in the future to protect, defend and advance matters of importance to the Scottish people.

“The group that I lead will always endeavour to place the interests of Scotland and the Scottish people as our primary focus and concern

  • Its the Bain principle revived, only this time the SNP are representing the union, and the Alba party are representing Scotland.

How much more evidence do the Sturgeonistas need, that shows our FM is quite content to govern in this union, and to adopt measures to shut those up who complain about her plethora of failings, the greatest being abandoning Scottish independence.

  • Methinks the carpetbaggers who moved to the SNP from SLabour have brought the Bain Principle over with them.

    • Sadly No! They are homegrown. They are a clique going back decades. The difference now is that they fight for Sturgeon instead of Scotland.
Power tasted can be a powerful drug!

  • I don’t know or care whether it’s Sturgeon, Swinney or Auld Nic Himsel who has the thumb on these jelly-livered SNP politicians but they’d be wise to “get a grip” otherwise they’ll be out on their ear very shortly. The Scottish people do not take kindly to being lied to ( Labour Party Scotland can vouch for that! ) It wouldn’t take a great deal to similarly put the SNP behind us. So, look out ditherers! Either support independence and those working hard to achieve our goal or clear the way for the many who truly believe in Scotland.

  • I am pleased that Neil Hanvey of Alba attempted to energise the SNP Westminster group to do what they are paid to do, which is look after the interests of the Scottish people. Shame on them with the honourable exception of Joanna Cherry and Douglas Chapman.
We are attending a march and rally on Saturday 27th November as P
ensioners for Independence organised by SiM. It will be interesting to observe police presence and action at Westminster where we will most definitely enter and dare I say ‘occupy’ Holyrood parliamentary space.

  • What happens to make supporters of an Independent Scotland change so quickly when they are elected to Westminster or Holyrood?
We all know our local MP or MSP as they came through the ranks, that is why we canvassed for them. Why we attended fund raisers. Why we voted for them.
Yet many of “Our champions of Independence” suddenly turn into silent obedient drones. I do not understand how that can happen. Are we so inept at character judgement that we fail to this degree? Does life become so comfortable that your principles are worth dumping.
It is highlighted to an even greater extent when I see a handful such as Neale, Kenny, Joanna rise above it.

What happens to make so many of the passionate champions of the YES movement suddenly sit silent as Scotland is betrayed? Who say nothing unless approved by Sturgeon.
    I don’t understand it.

    • SNP candidate vetting priorities became suspicious several years ago when superb MP candidates clearly committed and able to actually delivering independence were rejected, such as former ambassador Craig Murray.

    • “Yet many of “Our champions of Independence” suddenly turn into silent obedient drones. I do not understand how that can happen.”
Its called being gullible suckers, its not that they changed at all but that were always conning us , i make no apologies for quoting this link as at least he can see Elsie McSelfie for what she is , i would have used the world “Liar ” myself though. https://chokkablog.blogspot.com/2021/04/sophists-choice-how-sturgeon-dodges.html

      • Chris.

FFS, you’re posting a link to arch die-hard unionist Kevin Hague, the dog biscuit salesman and wannabe economist who was soundly skelped in the economic field by the real economist Richard Murphy, now get a grip man.

  • Well said Neale, Scotland needs change.

I have lost all confidence in Scotland’s income-bent First Minister. Wherever the Scottish National Party goes from here is uncertain and unknowing. Scotland has other options.

    Nicolas Turdgeon.

    Something reeks in the ranks.

    Change must come!

    Only ALBA.
    X.

  • Okay, here’s me follow up.

I’m in the Maryhill Central Hall.

    It’s fight night… it’s wrestling.

    Come and join us…

    And always love Scotland.

    Cheers Boss.

    Visca Vie.

  • Hi, to define…

The original and best Scottish National Party and the New SNP are two different things. Alex’s tenure was the bestest, but WE are in a new place and time.

    Sturdgeon is the not-so-great-pretender.

Politicians, members and supporters are cool and very eager… though they need to learn le reality NOW.

    It’s not really the SNP’s 87th.
It’s the NEW SNP’s thing… let’s call it No. 7. Before number seven, the SNP was a real cool political party! 80 years in the making.

ALBA is the way forward. ALBA is now.

    See ye 2morrow Craig.

    Cheers if we cool B.
