I Dissent

Find more pleasure in intelligent dissent
than in passive agreement”
(Bertrand Russell)

As independence supporters make their way through the five stages of grief after the Supreme Court ruling last week, it’s not unreasonable to see why we are struggling to get past ‘anger’.

Of course, the unionists among us don’t want to hear any more opinion on the issue of independence. They don’t want to see any more plans, read any more blogs, or any more suggestions on how Scotland might break out of this Union. Our colonial masters and their supporters want us to sit down and shut up forever. Then they want us to get up, go to work, come home and keep doing that until we die.

Pretty much what they wanted all their previous colonies to do while they were in charge. However, despite the might of the British Empire affecting every aspect of their daily lives, these colonies found ways to display their dissent.

When the hated Stamp Act was put into force in colonial America, those upstart separatists had the gall to set fire to copies of it in public places, for everyone to see! In 1906 when the British introduced the Black Act into the Transvaal, those damned colonials led by a certain Mr Gandhi had the audacity to set fire to the ID passes that the British had created just for Indian and Chinese people. These people did not consent. They did not comply. Despite the often horrific consequences, they determined to show London, a city in another country, that they rejected the British laws that were being forced upon them. And their dissent inspired others to do the same.

Of course, the Supreme Court judgement was only a ruling. An official opinion.

Soon though, laws will be passed that prevent anyone in the UK from protesting at all. Even writing about protesting will be enough for court action.

With this in mind, on St Andrews night, sovereign Scots in Dissent are inviting people to use their fire pits or any other safe container, in their own gardens, on their own land to take part in the same symbolic act of defiance. To burn copies of or representations of the Supreme Court ruling, to film it and post it on social media so that others can see your dissent. Of course, we’ll be damned in the process, by mainstream media outlets, by our commentators and our own politicians no doubt.
Gandhi and all the other colonial dissenters in history were too. But do we still care what our colonial masters and their supporters think of us?

Really?

  • Dissent is growing. The alternative political groups pushing for independence more than demonstrates that. Our alternative media too demonstrates that as it grows in influence, reach and readership.

The SNP are dying. With something over 80,000 members having left since the membership hight point, Since Sturgeon took over, the party has made no progress whatsoever, has in fact gone backwards, and has squandered mandate after mandate. Bereft deliberately of a plan, and now a functioning party, one can see how the hollowed-out SNP are finished, to be replaced by a new movement, a fresh vibrant movement, not a party in the pay and comfort of the establishment.

So, to you Roddy Macleod and your band, to Stu Campbell and Wings now back in the frame, to Iain Lawson and Yours for Scotland,, Grousebeater, Craig Murray and others the alternative media is growing in strength.

And to the Liberation.Scot, Salvo, SSRG, Alba and other AUOB groups, you too are growing to create a dynamic mass national movement stretching into every area of our country, we see real progress being laid down. And the compromised SNP. Of them we will need not. They have sold us short and will be replaced.

So, to all who strive for a release from our colonial shackles, let each and every one of us go forth and spread the news. Let us encourage folks to tune in, turn on and be part of it.

    • A little known fact… This bit…

“On this day, the Indian community held a meeting on the grounds of the Hamidia Mosque in Johannesburg. A three-legged pot stood in the corner of the grounds, waiting to be used to burn the registration certificates, if necessary. A telegram arrived from Smuts, saying that the government could not agree to the request of the community”

And so they burned the passes…

Those 3-legged cast-iron pots were made in Falkirk and the South Africans called it a FAL-KIRK (hard A). Ghandi’s Satyagraha campaign started in (a) Falkirk.

      😉

  • The SNP are well and truly part of the British nationalist establishment intent on suppressing Scotland and its people. Fight back any way you can.
