ALBA Westminster Group Leader Neale Hanvey MP has today (Tuesday) welcomed the evidence by Kate Bingham the former Chair of the UK Vaccine Taskforce to the Science and Technology committee when she said that the decision by the UK Government to cancel the contract with Valneva in Livingston, Scotland was “problematic on various counts” and “short sighted”.
She said that the aim of the contract was to provide the UK with “flexible, state of the art manufacturing capability” which could provide “the edge” over other whole virus based vaccines in dealing with Covid variants and said that “in cancelling the contract we lose that capability.”
In a statement Mr Hanvey said:
“ Kate Bingham’s evidence is absolutely damning and exposes the economic and public health incompetence at the heart of the UK Government’s Covid planning.
“ She rightly highlighted the importance of the Valneva contract and their state of the art manufacturing facility in Livingston. Her evidence clearly demonstrates the irresponsible, short sighted and ham fisted nature of the UK Government’s decision to cancel Valneva’s whole virus vaccine development programme, losing their unique agile capability to tackle emerging variants as well as it having the edge over other vaccines.”

One wonders if the plant were not based in Livingstone would the contract have been cancelled, as was the case with the carbon capture facility in Aberdeenshire.
I think the Livingstone plant bosses are taking court action on the cancellation, I could be wrong though. it sickens me to think of the contracts/money that went to the Tory party’s buddies (cronyism) even though some of them had never made PPE.
I hope this Court Action suggestion is true as it seems to form part of a pattern. Cancel a project that seems to be working (additional Brownie points if connected to Scotland or France) and see if any of your friends are up for suggesting an alternative which will be lucrative to you both.
This article is concerned with ideas that cannot or should not be expressed in spoken words, often being in the form of a taboo or incomprehensible term… In a word: Ineffability!
Ewen, I find your words to be inscruteable.
Perhaps you could enlighten us as to that which you could not comprehend or express with words?
As it happens there is a backstory / fairly Technical Explanation as to why the product that will not now be made would have been just the thing that the UK and the world really really needs right now, perhaps that is what you were referring to?
😉
My view aligns perfectly with RepublicofScotland.
The new power connector to Norway – diverted to the North of England.
Carbon Capture NE Scotland binned.
A new drug produced in Livingstone cancelled.
Renewable energy development obstructed.
Ferry Routes unsupported.
International Airline hubs based centred on London
Exports of Whisky via English Ports to distort GERs data
Etc etc
We are seeing a military style scorched earth policy. It is well developed by the Empire. Rape what you can while you can and when the locals get uppity make sure they are left with nothing to build on. In my lifetime the Merchant Navy, Ship Building, Steel, Car manufacturing, Mining, Gas Turbine Manufacturing, etc all gone. The skills of the Heavy Industries that enabled the Offshore Industry to take off gone.
The New Clearances are in progress. However our NuSNP will beg Boris to consider granting a token Referendum but Sturgeons key mission is to destroy Women’s Rights.
Welcome to another episode of Whitehall Colonial Divide and Rule with the Puppet Sturgeon taking the role of “head house jock”.
The real reason the Valneva contract was cancelled is the Torys want use vaccine blackmail to keep us in the Union with our own flourishing biotech industry they cannot play this card. Westminster wants to keep us impoverished and kill all viable industries .They did this with removing the subsidies for wind farms to discourage the home grown manufacture The sick colonial mindset to keep up enslaved and dependent while ripping of our natural resources oil gas and electricity. The UK is not a proper country.
Agree, it is a despotic, domineering and corrupt oppressor.
Shot to pieces by Cumberland’s cannon for half an hour.
The Jacobite army, lay in the heather in a cold and misty, Culloden Moor.
Waiting for the call to arms.
Whilst Charlie’s French and Scottish aides, argued the toss!
Should we fight? Or should we retreat?
By the time, the decision to fight was made, it was already, too late!
Let’s not leave it until it’s, too late. This time….
