The UK government refused to intervene because it would not be good use of public money to “bail out” Grangemouth. The same government have given security on a loan for £600 million to Ineos to build a controversial plant in Antwerp! The Scottish government are looking at what can be done to use this as a step towards the “just transition” away from reliance on fossil fuels by making use of the skill set of the workforce in the various part of the business that will not be used once the refinery part closes and it becomes a transport hub for crude oil taking it to other refineries in England. That’s because the Scottish government don’t have control over energy (its a reserved matter to Westminster) and don’t have the fiscal levers of borrowing to put funding in place to maintain the plant beyond the expected closure date. Your voice is one that is expected from within the local community but please ensure that you target blame appropriately (Westminster).
The Scottish Government have set up transition funds. They could be utilised to keep Grangemouth open.
Westminster is responsible for the licencing only, the SG have control over finance
( Within their budget) and planning.
It is about political priorities and real transition. The SNP/SG have decided they want nothing to do with Grangemouth and the workers. Shame on them!
London does not own Scotland, despite the fact that the government there acts,as though it does! The Scottish people are sovereign and that includes our land and its resources. The research dome by Salvo and SSRG shows our traditional Constitution has nit been altered or repealed, just ignored by London as that suits them.
Surely it is time to remind people, both in Scotlabd and England of this and reclaim what is ours.
If we can get enough Scots to get together and tell Westminster that what they propose about both Grangemouth and Free Ports is illegal under the 1707 Treaty of Union, we can stop both of these policies which will seriously damage Scotland.
