Beware of Greens Bearing Gifts.

Since I have been legally allowed to vote I have never voted anything else except SNP. This coming election will be no different in the Constituency. On the Regional List I will be giving my vote to the Alba Party. These are the only true independence parties available to the Scottish electorate. Right up until polling day I will be encouraging everyone to do likewise. A Super Majority for the independence parties puts Scotland in charge of its own destiny, not Boris Johnson or Westminster.

In 2016 at the Holyrood Election, I followed the party mantra of both votes SNP. In my region of West of Scotland 135,827 people voted the same way. The SNP cleaned up in the Constituencies but received ZERO List Seats for all those votes. Labour and Tories took three seats each and Greens with a paltry 17,000 votes took the last list seat. I was gutted and determined that never again would my vote count for nothing. I was not too upset about Greens winning a seat because they told the electorate that they supported independence.

At that point five years ago I had decided that in all likelihood I would vote SNP in the Constituency in 2021 and Green in the Regional List. It would be better to get rid of Unionists and have pro independence parties instead.

I have not wavered on that opinion apart from one component, hell could freeze over before I would ever vote Green. The past five years have exposed them as charlatans on Independence. Their ‘green’ credentials aren’t too clever either. While holding the balance of power at Holyrood for the past five years, they have never once mentioned let alone done a single thing to promote Independence. What finished me with them forever was their reprehensible behaviour over the OBFA. Patrick Harvie and his cohorts made common cause with the Unionists in what was nothing more than an act to bloody the nose of the SNP and nothing to do with making our football grounds or streets safer from the bigots that attach themselves to the beautiful game. Indeed, the Greens were assuring us just like Labour were that they would bring forward better legislation that would fulfill this role much better than OBFA. Now in April 2021 we are still waiting on Greens or Labour to produce this better legislation! The biggest tragedy in all this was that the OBFA had the overwhelming backing of the Scottish public. Wings Over Scotland ran a poll on that very subject and found by a huge margin the public wanted the legislation kept in place.

Even with this knowledge the Greens decided joining forces with the Unionists to embarrass and defeat the SNP Government was a good political move for the Greens. That the public disagreed with the repeal was of no concern to Patrick Harvie and his band of carpet baggers. They had only managed to get into Holyrood compliments of lots of SNP supporters lending them their votes. They did that in the belief the Greens were on the same team. That one action showed that the only side they are ever on is their own narrow interest.

It highlights that The Greens are nothing more than political opportunists and shysters. On May 7th if the Unionists are within striking distance of SNP and they make the right offer to the Green charlatans be assured they would stab SNP and Scotland in the back without so much as a thought and we would have a Rainbow Unionist coalition at Holyrood. Overnight Greens would suddenly look out their Union Jack knickers and banners and burn their saltires!

However, here in 2021 they have suddenly refound their ‘independence credentials. ‘ It happens whenever an election is close and Greens need SNP and Independence voters. Harvie and his confidence tricksters know they cannot win seats without SNP/independence voters so they start their lies early in the campaign about how devoted they are to independence in the Green Party.

The facts say differently, not once in five years have they used their unique position at Holyrood to advance the independence cause one inch. They have used their influence to scrap OBFA get a tax levied on car parking spaces but absolutely zero on Independence.

In the first BBC Television Debate of this election, Lorna Slater (No neither had I!) their Co Leader spent the entire hour and a bit managing not to use the independence word once! She went one better last Sunday in an interview with BBC when she said, and these are direct quotes!

BBC Scotland “The Sunday Show” Interview with Scottish Green Party Co-Leader confirms that votes for the Green Party are not votes for a “manifesto for independence” as she urges unionists to vote for the Greens whilst taking swipe at the SNP for preferring to work with the Tories in the Scottish Parliament. The comments come in response to an interview with Scottish Green Party Co-Leader Lorna Slater on the BBC Scotland’s “ The Sunday Show”.

“This manifesto is a manifesto for a fair and green recovery from the pandemic, it is not a manifesto for independence.”

“This isn’t a manifesto for independence, it’s a manifesto to ask the people of Scotland and feel that unionists should have the right to defend the union so if we have green voters or other voters who feel that the union is the right way forward let’s put it to the Scottish people.”

This time the Greens are not even going through the pretence of being an ‘independence party.’ Their Co leader has proved it with her own words on two different occasions. Greens are nothing more than opportunists remember that when you vote.

The one thing the SNP and Greens appear fixated on is GRA Reform. Again this goes against the wishes of the majority of Scottish voters. Neither Ms Sturgeon nor Patrick Harvie care a jot for the majority view, only their own views on this topic matter. It is a topic neither want to even be debated, they just want it done. To them it is more important than independence or the Environment. Both Parties under these leaders have veered off of their core  raison d’etre. Independence and the Environment have been sidelined in their determination to foist this appalling legislation upon Scotland.

I truly believe if these two parties had stuck to their original founding principles they would just now be heading towards an SNP/Green, Super Majority. Sadly both parties have leaders that have other priorities. If Nicola Sturgeon had stayed on the path laid out for her so expertly by Alex Salmond, there would be no Alba Party, no ISP, no AFI, no Scotia Future, and no division in the movement. The Road to Scotland’s Independence would be within her grasp. Sadly, she has chosen a different path as has Patrick Harvie.

That is why both these political parties need reminding they are there to serve the people and their wishes, not the other way around. So in May, 6th Vote SNP in the Constituency and Alba Party on the Regional List. Let us bring independence back to the centre of Scottish politics and jettison these minor unnecessary policies being pursued by the present leadership of these two parties.

The SNP needs to get back to Independence, nothing else. The Greens need to get back to protecting and promoting our environment. Everything else is peripheral and can wait till we secure our independence.

Saor Alba gu brath.

  • I voted Green at the last HR election, for independence and the environment, I decided not to ever again after the OBFA shambles, and now their stance on independence has confirmed my belief they’re not worth voting for.

  • In the NE Scotland Region we got ZERO SNP MSPs for 137,086 votes (44.7%) in 2916 but had FibDem Mike Rumbles inflicted on us for just 18,444 votes (6%) and British Labour in Scotlands Jenny Mara and Lewis MacDonald for just 38,791votes (12.6%)!

The Tories got 4 MSPs for 85,848 votes (28.0%).

7 BritNat List MSPs who answer to London vs ZERO SNP in 2916!

The Greens got ZERO for 15,123 votes (4.9%) last time and may squeak a list MSP this time round but if so at the expense of a BritNat as opposed to ALBA.

I am hopeful we get 3 (or more) ALBA MSPs in their place this time round!

  • Agree, though there are a few independence representatives who, like in the SNP, have been forced to haud their wheesht. During the first days of indycamp the first representatives to come and wish indycampers well were a couple of greens then they were banned from doing so. Wightman then joined the English establishment in taking indycamp to court in an attempt to remove their rights and to remove all trace of independence from the Scottish parliament despite the fact that international law states that the establishment are supposed to actively promote independence. (See UN Charter). An independent also spoke out in support of indycamp at that time. That was now going on 5 years ago. Nothing has changed except Scotland is being stripped bare from its wealth and resources, its businesses, its infrastructure, its people and sadly its rights at an accelerated pace. Scotland needs to reassert its statehood with immediate effect. The time for kicking the can down the road has well and truly past. Now is the time for action.

  • Nailed it.

I’m about as natural a Green supporter as you could find, what with a degree in environmental studies and all, yet I’ve never voted Green in my life.

Perhaps because I’ve never seen them as anything more than a pressure group which has morphed into political opportunists? They are the LibDems of the so-called ‘left’ and I hope they go the same way.

  • I , like you, decided no more second vote for the Greens after I wrote to Harvie about their stance on the OBFA. I did get a very swift response which is more than can be said for emails to the SNP, but he was unbending and it left me quite negative towards him.

I too wonder where this token woman, Lorna Who?, came from. Where has she been hiding these past few years? I’m glad she has come forward because her saying they’re not interested in independence has doubly confirmed that I’ll never vote for them again on the list. Quite how the vote will go on May 6th is questionable with all the SNP1&2 people digging their heels in. You can’t argue with stubborn and I only hope that Alba can get as many list seats as possible. It’s going to be interesting if Alex gets in and our FM slings him a deafie across the chamber.

  • Hiya, loving your blog, and hoping that you might be able to help, as to where the picture you referenced on Twitter a few days ago originated, please? I tried to look up Barbra Harvie and she’s suspiciously absent on social media – almost as if she’s been deleted off the internet!

Which makes me all the more curious as to where you got the pic featured in your Twitter post from, please?

    • I picked it up on FB sent it to Barbara and asked her very politely if she could confirm or deny this picture originated from her I received no such reply one way or the other. I did however receive a torrent of abuse and threats from several Green supporters and a few candidates too. I shared my pic and the DM to Barbara, and asked them to get a response, they declined and just continued with the abuse.
