ALBA Party Leader and Former First Minister Alex Salmond will take part in a Photo Call at the Peoples Palace, Templeton Street, Glasgow, G40 1AT
at 3.00 pm today (Monday 19 April 2021) to mark the start of the ALBA Glasgow campaign with ALBA Glasgow Candidates: Cllr Michelle Ferns, Ailsa Gray, Cllr Shahid Farooq and Lynn McMahon. Mr Salmond will outline ALBA’s plans to enhance the Educational Maintenance Allowance and Cllr Ferns will set out how ALBA intend to provide Financial support to taxi drivers and private hire drivers.
Speaking in advance of the Photo call ALBA Party Leader Alex Salmond said:
“ Today we are announcing targeted measures to support young people and taxi drivers across the city. I will be setting out how we can make a real difference now to the lives of young people in education by enhancing the Educational Maintenance Allowance to help close the poverty related educational attainment gap”
Launching the Glasgow campaign Mr Salmond said: “I am proud to be supporting our impressive team of candidates. This is a formidable team who will stand up for Glasgow and bring local government, business and real life experience to the Scottish Parliament. In Glasgow almost 110,000 SNP list votes were wasted last time. Independence and SNP voters cannot allow that to happen this time which is why I am asking people to give their List vote to ALBA to make both votes count for Independence.”
Lead Candidate on the Glasgow List, Cllr Michelle Ferns said:
“ ALBA will be setting out the practical support we intend to give to taxi and private hire drivers who have been the ‘forgotten workforce’ during this pandemic despite being essential workers providing a vital service.”
In conclusion, Ms Ferns said: “Our message to voters in the Yes City of Glasgow is clear – Make this Scotland’s Independence Election and vote ALBA on the list to achieve the Independence Supermajority which will put Scotland on the pathway to Independence and deliver the real economic and social change Glasgow needs.
