Through A Scottish Prism.20/02/22

Scotland a landlocked island!

This week my special guests are Prof.Alf Baird and Robin McAlpine. We discuss the Scottish Government’s deal with UK Gov for Freeports in Scotland. Are they value for money and an integral part of an industrial strategy or window dressing for tax avoidance?

Later I am joined by Iain Lawson and Phil Boswell when we discuss Boris says there will never be independence. The Scottish Government said nothing in response.

The member for Perth and North Perthshire tells BBC Debate night that Scottish MPs can not affect policy decisions whatsoever. He extolled the virtues of the broad shoulders of the UK. An Independence warrior or a cowed British Colonialist! Bridge Tolls and our Furzt Minister riding to aid of arch Unionist Sarah Smith while remaining silent on tge daily abuse suffered by Joanna Cherry.

Scotland has too much energy to be independent says Sam Taylor of These Islands we give Mr Taylor our thoughts. Thus and so much more for you to enjoy.

  • Thanks again for the extended Prism show Roddy, with guests Alf, Robin, Iain & Phil. Some very thought provoking debate about where Scotland presently stands and where Scotland is going (under the misguided direction and strategically poor political planning of this current Scottish Government).

In particular, it was fascinating to learn about the international history and topical status of these ‘freeports’ in Scotland and also the untapped potential we could have to grow and maintain self-sustaining bio-crops for our economy.

We have the water! We have the land! We just need a proactive political party to make best use of our resources for all of the people of Scotland, for many generations to come.

NB: Looking forward to reading about the follow-up with regards to the recent smear story which was written by The National. Both the journalist in question and the head of The National newspaper have a duty to journalism and their readers, to recognise, correct and apologise (in print) for their misguided and poorly judged story.

  • BB correct me if I am wrong but did at 1hr in the video, Robin McAlpine just say what Sam Taylor was trying to elude to in the video about Scotland having too much energy and we need the national grid. Good show but I have to say that most of the problems tonight seem to be the SNP\Greens being the cause. Plus in a future programme ask Alf about the port in Hampshire owned by ” Scottish Ministers”. On a non important issue BB, how long does my yellow card last?

      • The thing is BB that from this season in football its now 12 yellow cards before a ban. At least you give me a yellow card. I never got one in Fox News, Washington Post, Jerusalem Post, Labour Party Forum and half the SNP Gov twitter. They just unceremoniously flung me oot. Really really interesting stuff on ports. I have to say you guys know your stuff. But its not all Westminster’s fault all our industries get taken over. That is the way of the world sadly now. Its not Westminster’s fault that most of the Whisky is foreign owned or Ghupta was given free grouse beating Scottish land as a sweetener. This in my opinion only I have to say, is where you let yourself down by blaming WM. Anyway looking forward to next weeks show and maybe get some uptake on why those at the very top of Scot Gov own a freeport in Hampshire and as they own it , if they do, why is it not called a Greenport.?

  • Great, great prism show, lads. Full of very important information – and solutions, if only the SG would listen. So many people just would not believe that Scotland was such a big trading and maritime nation pre 1707, so much have we shrunk in relation to trade. Agree completely that essential – and even non-essential resources – should be state-owned or the state should have the controlling majority interest. We desperately need independence, though, in order to stave off hostile takeovers and resource grabs. Agree also that free ports are not the answer, as both Robin and Alf stated, without infrastructure and expansion of the ports themselves – which may not be in the right locations, as Alf said. Our ports pre 1707 are probably not in the right locations now for modern trade usage.

I find the whole Ukraine-Russia saga very interesting from the point of view of another ‘buffer state’ because this is what we are to rUK. The world is littered with buffer states – Poland and Belgium to mention just two in Europe, but there are others all over the world – that are chosen to protect their big neighbours, and where it is expedient for the big neighbours to stifle their promise and ideas of fending for themselves, if they can. That becomes far less easy when those states gain or regain their independence, of course. It is telling that our situation is almost the same as it was pre 1707: we are, and always have been, England’s back door, which must always be kept locked against one enemy or another, and our trade and growth as a nation is impeded exponentially.

  • It’s about time we just put the SNP leadership in the same category as unionists/Britnats because that is what they are.

Sturgeon congratulated Team GB after their curling win. Not a mention of Scotland.

How much more evidence do people need to see Sturgeon and her gang for what they are.

The mental health programme Scotland truly needs is one to combat both cognitive dissonance and the cringe.
