As we resume our regular Prism broadcast, delving into global affairs we return to the recent events unfolding in Ukraine and Palestine which once again take center stage in our midweek Through A Scottish Prism. Joined by Lloyd Quinan and Finbar Markey, we confront the harrowing realities of these conflicts and the broader implications they carry.

Unwavering in my anti-war stance, witnessing the ongoing tragedies in both nations only strengthens my conviction against the futility of armed conflict. Despite weeks of slaughter, the violence persists, serving as a grim reminder of humanity’s failure to resolve disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

The world appears divided into three distinct camps amidst these crises. On one side stand individuals like myself, steadfast in their belief that all wars, regardless of purported justifications, are inherently senseless. War, I argue in our podcast, represents a fundamental breakdown of diplomatic and political mechanisms.

Contrastingly, the US-led western nations form another faction, offering unwavering support to Ukraine and endorsing the atrocities in Gaza. Indeed, their justifications on both conflicts are polar opposites. They do not even get embarrassed at their double standards and double dealing. Despite the overwhelming dissent from their citizens, political elites and media outlets remain complicit, driven by allegiance to powerful lobbies and globalist agendas.

In stark contrast, the majority of nations in the global south align themselves with the Russian cause in Ukraine and vehemently oppose the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Notably, countries like South Africa and Nicaragua have taken decisive action by bringing cases to the International Court of Justice, challenging the impunity of US-backed Israeli aggression.

Finbar provides a comprehensive update on the Ukrainian conflict, highlighting the escalating death toll and the dire consequences of military intervention. With the cessation of arms supplies to Eastern Europe from the US, Ukrainian casualties mount, underscoring the catastrophic consequences of geopolitical maneuvering over genuine diplomacy. The conflict serves as a grim testament to the insidious influence of the military-industrial complex, sustaining itself on the bloodshed of innocent lives.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, the relentless onslaught of genocide and ethnic cleansing persists unchecked. Despite the International Court of Justice’s call for an immediate ceasefire, Israel, alongside its Western allies, brazenly flouts international law, prioritising the interests of lobbyists and warmongers over the pursuit of peace.

In the annals of history, these avoidable conflicts may well be recognised as the catalysts for the downfall of the US empire and the economic decline of Europe and the West. The shortsightedness of political leaders, beholden to special interests, has paved the way for the ascendance of global south nations and the emergence of a new geopolitical order dominated by Russia and China.

In a world teetering on the brink of madness, the solution seems deceptively simple: a mere phone call from the President of the United States to Kiev and Tel Aviv could have averted the catastrophic loss of life and preserved global stability. Yet, as the casualties mount and the chaos reigns, it becomes increasingly evident that in the corridors of power, reason often yields to the allure of power and profit.

The events unfolding in Ukraine and Palestine serve as sobering reminders of the folly of war and the imperative of pursuing peaceful resolutions to conflict. As we bear witness to the tragic consequences of unchecked aggression, it falls upon conscientious individuals and nations to uphold the values of peace, justice, and international law in the face of adversity. Only through collective action and unwavering commitment can we hope to forge a more equitable and harmonious world for generations to come.
