Sovereignty Unity & Hope

Sovereignty Unity & Hope are the themes for this week’s Through A Scottish Prism podcast. It is the week when another independence supporting party, Sovereignty joined the Liberate Scotland grouping. This is the only Coalition of the willing that the Scottish people need to get behind and support.

Sovereignty is a Scottish political party, which was founded in 2020 on the 700th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath. They stand for Scottish independence from the UK. They also hope to stand candidates in 17 constituencies and two electoral regions in the 2026 Scottish Parliament elections.

The only prerequisite to join Liberate Scotland, that is necessary, is to support a total commitment to Scottish independence, nothing else, nothing less.

This week Phil Boswell was attending the SSRG Conference in Dunfermline to give a talk on Oil & Gas as well as unity of the movement. It did clash with the recording of TASP. However, it was felt that Phil should this week prioritise support of an independence minded event. Unlike so many in our movement we at TASP practice what we preach and Phil attended the conference showing that cooperation and unity serve our cause far more than those that only think of their own party or organisations well being. It is only with unity of purpose that we will throw off the chains of English colonialism.

The panel this week of Lloyd Quinan, Eva Comrie and Allan Petrie were joined by the leader of Sovereignty David McHutchon.

It was an absolute pleasure to have David join us. He tells us first hand about his party and why they decided to join the Scottish Coalition of the willing, Liberate Scotland. We will leave you all to make up your own minds though we are certain all those that favour independence will be as excited as us that Sovereignty are now involved in this coalition.

That was indeed our opening discussion. All the panel gave their opinions on how this strengthens the coalition and improves the chances of Holyrood 2026 becoming the plebiscite election Scotland so desperately needs.

The topic that took up the most time of this week’s podcast was John Swinney’s recent BBC interview where he talked of the need to see the levels of support for independence to be at the levels of support for Devolution in 1997.For the avoidance of doubt the support at the ballot box was 74.29% of the vote.

Some of the SNP supporters are trying to suggest John didn’t say 75%.However, no matter how you interpret what he says the numbers do not lie.The level of support is a historical fact. While some dance on a pinhead of pedantry of John’s words, facts are facts.

This and his statements the previous week that the SNP would not participate in any pro independence unity convention and that only a big win for the SNP in May 2026 was his concern. He also reiterated what is the SNP official policy position, the only route to independence is via a Westminster approved Section 30 referendum.Party before nation as always.

Our panel discusses this in length, and they all make the point that no Westminster Government under any circumstances will ever again agree to a Section 30 independence referendum.

The position of all those on the panel and in Liberate Scotland is that 50%+1 is what is required for independence and  Liberate Scotland will not be asking Westminster for permission. The only permission they will seek will be the voice of the sovereign people of Scotland. That permission will be sought in May 2026 at the ballot box.

The Clydebank by-election this week once more demonstrated that the people of Scotland have lost all faith in the mainstream political parties. The turnout was disappointing 25%. Once more showing that the Apathy Party won by a landslide. While as always the winners this time, the SNP crow about their victory, the facts of the victory tell a different story. The numbers show their vote substantially down. Labours vote collapsed the Liberals and Tories embarrassingly in single digits.Lets not even mention the other also rans.

The people of Scotland in opinion poll after poll express their desire for independence. That number is anywhere between 15-20% points higher than anything the SNP poll at the ballot box. It tells us that the SNP are disengaged from their core support and the desires of the people of Scotland.

There is a vacuum in Scottish politics, and that is exactly why Liberate Scotland was formed. There is a desperate need for unity. At present the SNP show no signs of doing what our country requires. Therefore, in the coming weeks and months, Liberate Scotland will continue to declare candidates for all the seats in Scotland. The people of Scotland have shown that they want this upcoming election to be a bona fide independence plebiscite election. If the so-called main independence party will not facilitate that then it is incumbent upon the people of Scotland to make it happen.

Many of those that put the party ahead of the nation claim this means Liberate Scotland will split the independence vote. The opposite is true, if the SNP will not engage with the independence movement and call a Constitutional Convention it is their actions that are causing a splitting of the independence vote.

It is not too late for any independence minded political party or independence forum or grouping to get behind Liberate Scotland and help pressure our mainstream parties into respecting the will of the Scottish people. All must put the needs of the nation ahead of personal ambition or the needs of their parties or organisations. We have enough talking shops already, what is required now is action and not words.

Our podcast ends with the contemptuous treatment meted out to our Welsh cousins by the English imperialists.Starmer and Reform Ltd. showing their absolute arrogance and English imperial disdain for Wales and the Welsh. Be assured they hold Scotland and its people in the same contempt. We are merely a revenue source for Mother England, not an equal partner in a voluntary union. We are a colony of England once you accept that, everything else makes sense.Too many Scots are in denial about this fact.

You can either let that continue unabated or get involved in the coalition of the willing and free our nation in May 2026!

  • Coalition of the willing? Really? Can’t you come up with something better than that discredited phrase first used by Shrub (Bush I) and then the execrable Starmer.

    • Actually read the content it was a reference to Starmer and his idiotic coalition of the willing to wage war on Russia the reference was that the only Coalition of the willing Scots need is unity of the independence movement same as the only Reform Scotland needs is Independence. All about context.

  • Might be a controversial thing to say, but we might be trying to hard at unity.

I fear we are suffering diminishing returns on new groups and alliances forming, despite the best intentions of all concerned. Increasingly, this is just white noise to the ordinary man in the street.

That we must unite is a racing certainty, but we are a terribly fractured entity as a direct consequence of the SNP deliberate misadventures. Can we ever, in good faith, marshall ourselves behing the SNP? That’s a big ask, and certainly not without a seismic overhaul of dodgy personelle, dubious actors and a decade of compromised integrity.

Can we unite behind ALBA? Going to be controversial again, but I don’t think Salmond ever intended for ALBA to survive very long beyond that Holyrood Supermajority which ALBA was invented to deliver. The SNP wrecked that inspired initiative, (and it was inspired brilliance), but Sturgeon’s crew wrecked it well and ALBA has paid the price.

Liberation and SALVO are solid players on the field, and while I firmly believe their (our) message will begin to resonate, they seem to me at least, too valuable and worthwhile commodities to be sullied by the seediness of political chicanery.

I was at the SSRG Conference, and while I do not wish to overstate my extremely modest and humble contribution, I had a wee moment to myself, and basked in the sheer personal bliss that after years, indeed decades, of endless “Breeks” commentary about how Independence was ALL about sovereignty, I was finally listening to Robert Black, Professor Emeritus of Scots Law at the University of Edinburgh, weighing in so heavily at a pro-Independence Conference, having at last been persuaded that the Treaty of Union is a sham in chapter and verse. Where he leads, others will follow. Scots Law will at last, we hope, find it’s voice.

Will Scots Law lead our charge, and reach into the schemes and deprived areas we reached in 2014? It will help, big time, but ultimately I don’t see it.

My friends, we need unity. But can I take the opportunity to fly a kite? We already have something wholesome and potent, a much loved friend to all that will unite us all. It starts with a wee blue circle stuck in a car window, Pantone 300 is the colour, the colour of the Saltire, and has YES written on it.

Fill our streets with 2014 style YES blue and camaraderie, only this time we are armed with the Constitutional ammunition we could only dream about in 2014.

    • You should listen to my midweek interview with Craig Murray who will be leading the Salvo Liberation delegation to the UN. It will take years if not decades to get a UN result.Like Craig I believe it will happen but on its own it means nothing. Then what? Without a political arm it means nothing. If Scots continue to stay away from the ballot box why would the international community back our case? As Craig says we need to be winning at the ballot box too.Liberate Scotland is not there to play at British politics we are here to do that the SNP should have done.
