Sovereignty/Liberate Scotland Announces former Glenrothes RFC player and its youngest ever club captain Laurie Moffat as Candidate for Cowdenbeath Constituency and Mid Scotland & Fife Region

Sovereignty/Liberate Scotland is proud to announce that Laurie Moffat will stand as our candidate for the Cowdenbeath Constituency in the upcoming 2026 Scottish Parliament election.

Laurie is a lifelong Fifer and Lochgelly resident, a former pupil of Lochgelly High School and a graduate of Robert Gordon University. His family’s roots run deep in the region’s proud working-class traditions. As a descendant of the renowned union leaders Abe and Alex Moffat, stalwarts of Scotland’s communist strong coalfields in Lumphinnans, known locally as “Little Moscow”, Laurie inherits a legacy of tireless activism and working-class solidarity. The Moffat name also shares a bloodline with local footballing legend Jim Baxter, further embedding Laurie in Fife’s story of grit, pride and resilience.

A passionate and principled voice, Laurie has long rejected the tokenism of the SNP, who speak of independence while doing nothing to secure it. Instead, he takes real inspiration from the sovereignty focused work of Salvo, and joins Liberate Scotland with a clear pledge, to fight unapologetically for Scotland’s full independence and the restoration of its sovereign voice.

Laurie a former Glenrothes RFC player and its youngest ever club captain, Laurie brings both grassroots passion and real-world experience to his campaign. He is committed to a Scotland that stands tall, speaks for itself, and puts its people first.

“I’ll fight for you,” Laurie declares to the people of Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly, Inverkeithing, Dalgety Bay, Rosyth, and the surrounding communities. “Join me in building a sovereign Scotland!”
