  • Disturbing to hear the internal woes of life within SNP. Sturgeon running a party for her own personal agenda. Not attending NEC no discussion/planning on Indy. J.Cherry situation etc.Allowing other fringe campaigns GRA etc to get a ridiculous amount of influence. The new NEC members need to kickstart so much. May plebiscite is the only way to go given the impossibility of obtaining S30. reasons explained very well. List ISP outside chance 2/3 rd majority explained also explained well. Well done Denise we both hope something dramatic will happen on supporting list ISP support. Barrhead Boy on the ball!

    • Why don’t Alex and Craig Murray get together, head the ISP, to gain that critical mass for the ISP ?
Everyone recognizes both their integrity and authentic want for a Scotland free from the Union.

  • Total barnstormer of an interview.

I can only have a difference of opinion on one point.

The current FM has no political imagination.
Her politics, patently, are purely of the office.
That’s why she defers to (and pays to) charlotte square deadbeats like Wilson.

I do not see her as a particularly good leader of party or government, an extremely able cabinet minister at most.

Comminicating disaster in a reassuring way is a certain talent, but of no use to the rest of us.

  • What a brilliant podcast, with a very brave activist, who has done more for changing the NEC than the FM has ever had interest in Sorting out. If it wasn’t for Denise, m ay people would not know who to vote for at the NEC elections, & if it were not for Dot Jessian we would still not know anything about the real goings on in the NEC or within the party. These two woman should be at the very heart & in cabinet of any SNP party.. Well done Denise..

    • Hear, hear, Kate. It took a great deal of courage for these people to stand up to the pseudo ‘woke’ elements and call them out. I have listened to several female speakers on Roddy’s podcasts, and they make me proud to be a female, and a female in Scotland: Dot; Denise; Eileen, etc. We should also be grateful to Roddy and his fellow bloggers for all the hard work they do on behalf of what is so close to the hearts of most of us – independence.

  • Really good stuff, BB. I will never, Hate Crime legislation or not, say that a trans woman is a woman. They will always be trans women, and trans women should have their own spaces. What is really shocking for many of us is the way that society just goes along with this nonsense, denying science and biology, denying reality, putting our children right into the path of exploitative, dangerous behaviour – for what? At the behest of a group that hates natal women, that wants to pretend that its members are actually – honest injun – ‘women’. They are men. Sex is immutable. We are a biologically dimorphic species. Gender is a societal construct which is why so many trans women look like those blow-up sex dolls – because they cannot possibly have any idea of what a women actually is; all they understand is the male version of what a woman is, which is, basically a blow-up sex toy that earns more than your average woman, that knows no gender pay gap and that eschews the shitty, low-paid jobs that women are, generally relegated to.

Five years ago, I, like many others, was supportive of trans rights (so long as they did not impinge on women’s rights) and I was aware that a number of trans people have been around for a very long time, bothering no one, getting on with their lives as we are all entitled to do. However, the trans lobby arose like a demon from the depths of hell and breathed sulphur all over us. It uses genuine trans people – those with body dysphoria and who have transitioned as much as they can – as the vanguard against women’s sex-based rights.

Denise is quite right to say that the legislation (human rights and EHRC) never envisaged that hundreds of thousands of fetishists and cross-dressers, drag queens and others who shelter under the trans lobby umbrella would seek to use the genuine conditions of gender/body dysphoria as weapons against women. It has the potential to utterly destroy a hundred years of women’s rights and reduce us to marginal status in the West once more, but also, to undermine democratic society itself by undermining scientific norms, health services, health provisions, children’s lives, parents’ peace of mind and sanity all female sports, all female private/safe spaces, societal norms of freedom of sex education, etc.

That is why it is not enough for any natal male to claim that this is just a women’s problem and that it has nothing to do with independence. It has everything to do with independence because we need the women’s vote to regain our independence. Women will never forgive this betrayal if it is allowed to continue, and only a fool would think that the trans lobby is not gearing up for the next onslaught. The pseudo ‘wokerati’ in the SNP are gearing up to pass this stuff come hell or high water if the SNP is returned in 2021 without a change of policy in this area. If Nicola Sturgeon refuses to drop self-ID and GRA reform, and the hate crime bill as it stands, with no protection within it for women (quite deliberate and cynical), then she will fall within a short time of taking office again, because few women will support her after that. Not only that, but she will be a pariah to most Scottish women for the betrayal of her sisters on behalf of men in frocks and high heels.

Men need to think about their mothers, their wives, their daughters, their grand-daughters, their nieces and female cousins. They need to understand that, although trans men will never be the threat to men, and their spaces, that trans women can be to women, and theirs, this is also about the very overturning of societal norms that have been understood for nigh on a hundred years – not because they are hidebound, but because they are reflective of a decent and self-respecting society.

This is nothing like gay rights, whatever they try and ‘gaslight’ us with. These are men who want access to female spaces, with the ousting of women as the priority. That is why no compromise, no common ground is possible, and why independence will also be impossible if these people get their way. Oh, yes, women’s rights and independence are absolutely intertwined here. To believe otherwise is to not understand the bigger picture.

  • where have these trans men come from without insulting anyone I only recognised gay people I never heard of this trans-species until recently and if true I was shocked that they wanted to share female dressing rooms my theory is they came from another planet as far as Denise is concerned I love people like her who has an open mind and speaks also from the heart it is people like Denise who will inspire many to join the Yes Movement thank you Denise and @BarrheadBoy

    • John, we have always had ‘trans’ people in our midst – both men and women – but they were tiny minority with body dysphoria, a recognized condition that should elicit our sympathy and empathy. Indeed, it did until recently.

Also, most trans people had actually transitioned – more so in the case of men for whom the surgery is far more conducive. Trans men’s surgeries (women) have become better, but they lag way behind the advances made in trans women’s (men’s) surgeries for reasons that are anatomical and biological, ironically, because the new wave of the trans lobby repudiates all biology and science.

It was actually fully transitioned men (trans women) that the legislation (2004 GRA, EHRC, human rights, etc.) was based around. Trans people have the full panoply of human rights that the rest of us have, so don’t be fooled by their ‘gaslighting’ nonsense that they are poor victims who have no rights. This claim would be demolished immediately with evidence if they ever allowed themselves to debate the issue – which, of course, they won’t, because they would lose big time.

Some, the more extreme elements (of trans women), believe that they will bear children as that is where Big Pharma and Big Tech are headed, apparently (and so, naturally, will be the big bucks and the parasites who live off the big bucks at everyone else’s expense) although they will have to actually build a whole human female, skeleton, et al, from the male (trans woman) which is, in itself a ironically delicious thought, given the oppression and hideous cruelties that women have had to endure at the hands of males for being the daughters of Eve, that ungrateful harlot who led Adam astray, having been constructed from his rib.

The extreme trans lobby grew out of Western liberalism gone mad and extreme academic maundering about liberalism that is, essentially, anti democratic, authoritarian and totalitarian, not to mention, science-, biology- and logic-denying. Oh, and almost exclusively male, middle-class and white with loads of time on its hands to ponder its reason for being. It was envisaged by all the legislation (until the self-ID GRA reform and the expansion of the trans lobby to bringing all types of ‘female’-based fetishes, cross-dressing, drag queen, autogynaephiliacs under the trans umbrella) that the trans community would benefit from an easier path to changing their birth certificates and gender through self-ID (a quick, easy route to marriage, etc.).

However, what has actually happened is that all these other groups with aspirations to having female bodies or bits of female bodies, like demented Frankensteins, often a simple colonialization of femaleness by any other name, and so grossly insulting to women and lacking in empathy for their lives as women, to be close to a crime against humanity, and will probably end up in that category when the scandal about trans children hits the buffers, as it will, hopefully sooner rather than later) – have demanded more and more concessions that are anti human rights of others – women, who are evidently not entitled to their human rights as they are not actually human, according to the subtext which is so misogynistic and women-hating as to be a whole form of sickness in itself. Note, incels (males not getting their legs over, as is their right as they perceive it, and women should be forced by law to service them), of whom we have heard in Scotland just recently.

That is what so many simply don’t understand, and I am sorry to say that many of these are men who don’t see this issues as affecting them, and stupidly accommodating females: the extreme trans lobby does not want to debate the issue; it believes that it has the absolute right to oust women from their spaces and rights; it justifies that by claiming that trans women are real women and that natal women are a poor evolutionary experiment that went wrong. They believe, the more extreme of them, that they are the real female sex and that women cannot be allowed to exist any longer. They believe that the tech industry and pharma industry, in time, will enable them to produce children, to lactate and have periods and have sex with natal men as women do now.

People can laugh and shake their heads and recommend the tinfoil hats, but this is the ultimate goal: to wipe women from existence by invading, like a colonizing force, ALL women’s spaces and rights. As all colonizers regard the colonized as inferior beings, scarcely human, often, so do the extreme elements of the trans lobby regard women. There are no longer a small minority of people who call themselves trans, and most have, and will never transition, but retain all their male – it is almost exclusively males (trans women) who have these ideas – but number the hundreds of thousands and they are growing in number every day. I hope that explains this phenomenon in some detail for you. I know that it is very hard to understand, and they will deny all of it, but, get them annoyed and spiteful, and it all comes out. If it doesn’t put a shiver up the spine of anyone with two brain cells to rub together, it should, because the implications and repercussions for the whole of society – women, children and men, and all our cherished institutions of democracy and civil liberties – are terrifying.

  • This session makes solid for me many things I have been groping towards. It shows the attitude of combative and positive determination that is now needed throughout the Yes movement. If the SNP won’t lead on this then they will have to follow. Well done Denise (and BB).

The time for patiently waiting and trying to be all things to all people has gone (and if it were to be pursued further we would need a hundred year plan to go with it. Bojo has all the powers he needs to deny democracy and may have sufficiently powerful allies to sustain that for some time in the international community.) Institutions, including currency and a constitution, can be set up in months if need be. The unionists keep ‘accusing’ the SNP of relentlessly pursuing independence. Now is the time to capitalize on that unearned reputation and start doing it.

  • So nice to hear Denise’s voice, glad you’re chipper and in fighting mood.

I agree that Sturgeon’s non anything Indy is disappointing. The rumour that she is angling for a UN Geneva job which requires UK PM approval would if true explain a lot. She would then be sacrificing the good of her party and her country on personal ambition. Which would damn her forever more in my eyes.

As for the ISP’s chances, with the radical Yes City to tap we can do it here in the NE. Stay tuned on that, we have not yet begun to fight.

  • I’ve listened to this one 3 times, interrupted by life.

I’ve found 5 things per effort.

    Ridiculous return on effort.

    Why Denise will not

(never if the blackford /wishart pension plan is to be expedited)

be gifted glenn campbell’s job is a question I will take to my grave.

A merry xmas to you, and your correspondents, and many new years to you all.

  • As of the weekend the UK with a hapless Scotland in tow moved into what can only now be described as an ever quickening economic, social and public health disaster.

With Prime Minister Johnson making the emergency announcement of Tier 4 lockdown on Saturday afternoon due to the virus being out of control in London and the South East, tsar Nicola announced a few hours later that Scotland was taking similar emergency measures.

Quite where the medical radars were for this to happen when only days before both U.K. and Scottish Governments were relaxing tiers and planning for five days unrestricted Christmas celebrations, is one huge competency question.

And now with the borders to the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Austria, Italy, France, Israel and El Salvador closed to U.K. citizens the UK or what is left of it is now running out of food and medicine as chaos reigns at the ports and as the economy implodes.

And with a spike now predicted for February that will totally overwhelm the NHS the human cost of lives lost through lack of cancelled cancer treatments and the like will be a holocaust.

Brexit, COVID and British gun boats has proved a heady mix. Isolated on all sides, short of foods and medicine, and out of Europe why have we in Scotland allowed ourselves to get into this human tragedy.

Beguiled by a First Minister who failed to keep us in the EU, who said independence was not the time, who said there was a coronavirus to win and an economy to restore, her daily COVID floor shows are now being shown for exactly what they are.

Well the raptor of human devastation has now landed. Sold down the river by Sturgeon we now now pay the price.

Time for a ‘ wartime ‘ leader and I can think of no better a man to put a wartime cabinet together than Alex Salmond.

  • “… Time for a ‘ wartime ‘ leader and I can think of no better a man to put a wartime cabinet together than Alex Salmond… ”

It is certainly time to declare war, Willie, with a commitment to moving immediately to independence if the SNPG is delivered a majority of the seats in 2021. The election can, and should, be a plebiscite, as well as an election per se. The FM and SNPG have the powers already and do not need to go to court to use them. If Johnson refuses to negotiate (neither Westminster nor the Unionists/British/English Nationalists up here have any legal locus standi for subsequent legal challenge or, indeed, prior legal challenge, if the election is constituted properly) then we take our case to the UN, based on the Treaty breaching, and on the UN Charter’s tenets, as well, and ask for it to be expedited because of Brexit and the need to settle matters in the UK.

However, we should also be appealing to those politicians (with Scottish ancestry) in the US, principally, but also across the world, and, even more importantly, to the huge Scottish diaspora, to come to our aid. Another referendum is both totally unnecessary and could be lost again. If it is, that will preclude any other route out of the Union for many years because the Scots will have shown themselves to have voted for the Union twice, so we must be very careful what we wish for.

A referendum, whether a S30 one or otherwise, if it could be lost, if it is not unassailable, will be worse than useless: it will be a step backwards and a declaration that the Scots are simply not ready for independence, that they repudiate it; and that will be the case even if the NO vote is as it was last time, an alliance of minority NO-voting parties and groups, ostensibly breaking international law in that self-determination is a right under the Charter (and they have been trying to deny us that right); and under the colonialization chapter where the right to self-determination cannot be thwarted by colonial aspirations (by placing Scotland in a subservient, colonial position to rUK and, specifically, England, with whom Scotland has a Treaty. If we do nothing about calling them out out, as we also failed to do in 2014, then we have not a leg to stand on.

Like so many things going on lately, there can be no other explanation for them except pure, wilful negligence and a blatant disregard for the rights of majorities in favour of favoured minorities for reasons that appear to be nothing short of deliberate subjugation. How else can you explain the total lack of duty of care, the complete absence of reason and a priori knowledge, the utter abandonment of proper legal scrutiny and testing – and all across a spectrum of policies and political endeavour?
