Open letter to the Rt Hon John Healey, Secretary of State for Defence.
Dear Mr Healey,
You may be aware that I recently wrote to your colleague, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, with a suggestion for dealing with the inconveniently large number of old people in the UK at present. I am sure my suggestion (A Modest Proposal for the UK, 2025 – https://www.frankiemary.scot) has been discussed by the Cabinet, but I am writing to you with a further proposal, in view of the changes to disability criteria which were announced recently.
I know that the Prime Minister is making plans for war with Russia, and I realise that you as Defence Secretary will be charged with finding troops to fight that war.
On paper, it looks as if this will not be a problem, as people who will no longer be able to claim disability benefits will have no option but to enlist in the armed forces. But I imagine that your generals may be briefing against accepting such people, as there is a prejudice among professional soldiers against recruits who would be regarded as being less committed. But I am sure that, if these recruits were sensibly deployed, far from being a liability, they would be an asset in battle, and a shining example to all. It is my understanding that it will be more difficult for people with respiratory problems to get disability benefits.
This is also likely to be the case for people with mobility issues. If we were to take a negative view of this, we would say that these people would not be able to keep up with professional soldiers when running into battle. But why be negative? The positive message which we must emphasise is that, if these troops cannot run into battle, they also cannot run away. If they are put to guard an installation, they will not be able to retreat, especially if their inhalers, mobility aids etc are kept safe for them back at their home barracks.
I believe it was General Haig who instructed soldiers in the Battle of the Somme not to run, but to walk at a steady pace across no-man’s land when advancing on the Germans. This was no doubt to impress the enemy with the superior discipline of the soldiers of the Empire, and doubtless the German snipers were very impressed as they machine-gunned them. But if soldiers walking is regarded as impressive, just think how much more impressive it will be when they simply stand still – I realise not all of them will be able to stand, but you get my drift. The Russians will be clutching their Kalashnikovs in awe.
Sadly, there are pessimists among us who will focus on the number of casualties which may be incurred. But the situation will not be so very different from the one in which General Wolfe was operating in 1759; he put his Scottish soldiers in the front line of battle, saying that it would be “no great mischief should they fall”. Of course, if you were able to have some platoons of soldiers who were both Scottish and disabled, that would be an even better scenario, and one which I’m sure would be very popular among the constituents of Rawmarsh and Conisbrough, and doubtless other English constituencies as well.
In conclusion, please accept my grateful thanks for everything you are doing; your party’s policies are the best motivation I and my liberty-loving colleagues could possibly have as we work for a better future for Scotland. Remember, an Independent Scotland will be good for England too.

As always it is a pleasure to see sarcasm combined with Scottish droll humour, in support (perhaps not quite) of the incompetent arses who are destroying the social and physical fabric of the late, great, United Kingdom.
We sovereign Scots really should offer the English people their own independence.
Assistance with resettlement to England could be offered to the English settlers who may want to escape the land of milk and honey which is represented here in Scotland.
We do all need a wee guffaw now and again
We could offer to send them food parcels when the going gets tough.
Thanks for the laugh, Frankie. God knows, we need it. However, lest we forget, the Germans threw in young boys, old men, the halt and the lame in 1945. The desperation, arrogance and stupidity of those who, themselves, are never called to the front-line, know no limits.
It should be in the job description that MPs, in the event of war, need to go to the front line first. That might make them stop and bloody think about what they are doing.
Thanks, and I agree with what you say about 1945 and children being called up to fight. Do you know the 1959 West German film with the English title The Bridge (German title Die Bruecke sorry can’t do umlauts!) It is for me the most powerful and harrowing anti-war film I have ever seen. I saw it sixty years ago and will never forget it. It’s on Youtube, subtitled and broken up into sections but you can watch the whole film for free, or buy the DVD for about a tenner on Amazon. Well… I think every single MP in WM that votes for this, should put their children in the front line first. They’ll set a really good example for those disabled struggling to stand upright, those with breathing problems trying to balance their inhalers with their SA80’s and the ones with the badly shaking hands trying to throw grenades, that anything is possible and will prove that you only have to BELIEVE you can even if not able-bodied, like the MPs kids! You’re just being negative if you don’t think positively! If those MPs kids show the way, I’ll wave my son goodbye, with his duffel bag over his shoulder as he trudges up the gangplank on the HMS Prince of Wal…oh! Oh dear…!
Oh never mind, I’m sure if the MPs & their children believe hard enough, the HMS PoW’s and HMS The Queen Elizabeth will stay afloat! It’s just a matter of wanting and believing they can, right?? But my son WON’T be there, because unlike the present govt., I DON’T believe everything is possible (ever tried to light a match on a bar of soap?). And my son isn’t going to prove my theory. We’ll watch the MP kids FIRST & see how it pans out… Even then, I’ll be thinking ‘Sod this for a game of soldiers, I’m voting INDEPENDENCE FOR SCOTLAND’.
I think the politicians should put themselves first. They create the wars so they can fight them and leave the rest of us tolive in peace.
True! They SHOULD BE the ones to go! They create the wars but they know they wouldn’t last more than five minutes – and that’s just in the training! But I’d force them, untrained or not, to go fight for what they believe in (money) and see if it is worth it. Course, they’d have no problems when they got back & wouldn’t be dependent on charity to claim new legs, or mental support for their PTSD. They’d still have their homes & their cosy beds to sleep it. So I’m afraid the full effect of the war wouldn’t really touch them.
Their deaths would be the only thing… and that doesn’t teach you a thing, right? You’re not alive to make sense of what happened or what you got for your money. Course you can’t spend your money, either… but I hope the whole experience would be enough for them to say “My son isn’t coming here to engage in this”, in which case *I* would say, “Then neither is mine.”
But they’re not going to go there. Sooo… it needs must we fight it in WM. OR we back independence & do what we can to make it happen, I guess.

Well done Frankie for making me smile , unfortunately these moronic scum wouldn’t recognise the truth behind your sarcasm , I commented on a previous post about conscription for our kids but it appears to have disappeared into the ether
I would seriously suggest that ANY young person considering a military career look very closely at how our governments tory and Liebour treat our former military personnel coming home from these incursions (not wars) who are either wounded physically or mentally , the evidence is there for ALL to see , they are discarded and shunned, they have to rely on charities funded by donations from the public to give help or assistance in their times of need , many of them are homeless and suffering from PTSD who then turn to drugs or alcohol exacerbating their problems , but not to worry the politicians have a plan, they will sit in their comfortable publicly paid for heated
2nd homes only ocassionally having to dip into their generous salaries to augment their subsidised meals whilst they prepare our young cannon fodder to face ANY enemy with shite weapons and equipment
