This site and Through A Scottish Prism have for a long time advocated the need for unity within the independence movement. Therefore, we are delighted to announce today that along with Indy4indy and the others mentioned below it has been agreed to unite as one entity to fight next years Holyrood Election.Sadly, not everyone in our movement thinks unity is a good or desirable thing. When some say they seek unity, they actually mean they seek compliance to their view alone.
We believe the key to independence encompasses a broad church of views, tactics and people. We need to be united as one.The door remains open for others to change or make up their mind. We believe if independence is a genuine desire unity is the correct course of action.Self-determination cannot be won by a single party or group. This though is just the beginning, a first step. There is a lot of work to do if we are to achieve our goal of independence. There is a reason the Brits always deploy divide and rule. They know a unified workforce or people is impossible to defeat. We do not just want to win an election, we intend to win our independence!
A ‘Scotland as One’ campaign for the 2026 Holyrood Election
All independence supporters at national, regional and grassroots levels are invited to unite in common cause to liberate Scotland and achieve independence with a cross-party non-partisan strategy and approach to the Holyrood 2026 election.
To take the proposal forward all national and regional independence supporting organisations and campaign groups who intend to field a candidate or candidates in the 2026 election are invited to nominate a representative to help establish and become a member of the steering committee for Liberate Scotland.
The primary aim of the Liberate Scotland campaign is that in the 2026 election we achieve a majority of independence supporting MSPs who have made a simple declaration in support of the Liberate Scotland campaign. Independence candidates, their sponsors and national, regional and grassroots supporters may endorse and commit to the Liberate Scotland campaign by declaring that –
- “As associate members of Liberate Scotland we unite in common cause to liberate Scotland and achieve independence through decolonisation in a cross-party non-partisan political strategy for the Holyrood 2026 election.”
- “We will work together to co-ordinate and agree the Scotland as One campaign approach to the Scottish Parliamentary elections in 2026.”
This invitation and statement on behalf of Liberate Scotland has been prepared in consultation with –
Sara Salyers, Liberation Salvo Scotland Director
“Liberation Scotland Salvo and Liberation Scotland will not be standing any candidates in the election and is pleased to welcome as affiliate members all independence supporters and groups at national, regional and grassroots levels who are allied in common cause to liberate Scotland from the fraudulent union with England, and achieve independence through decolonisation in a cross-party non-partisan strategy and approach to the Holyrood 2026 election.
With the UK Government continuing to block the legal and inalienable right of Scots to self-determination, and with successive elected majorities of nationalist politicians in Scotland having failed to deliver independence for our nation, Liberation Scotland intends to end the colonial exploitation and domination of Scotland and its people by the Anglo-British state.”
Colette Walker, Independence Scotland Party
“Independence for Scotland Party ( ISP ) was formed in May 2020 .
We are a committed members led, grassroots party, a party fully committed to Sovereign Scots / Scottish sovereignty not parliamentary sovereignty. We believe that Scotland should have a completely different political structure , Direct Democracy, where our elected representatives are accountable to the people of Scotland, we also believe we should only swear an oath in our parliament to the sovereign people not a monarch from another country.
To make the essential changes , we need candidates standing on a ‘Scotland As One‘ ticket and work together with other parties, non-partisan, liberation supporting groups /organisations with the same values and principles, that is why, ISP is delighted to work under the ‘Liberate Scotland‘ umbrella.”
John Brown, Secretary, Independence Forum Scotland
“A primary aim of the Independence Forum Scotland is to unite the independence movement and to develop a shared vision for a future Scotland by enabling pro-independence people to work together on a non-party political basis with the aim of securing independence.
The 26 national and regional member organisations of the Independence Forum, many of whom are active campaign groups, are now being consulted on the Liberate Scotland proposals for a cross-party non-partisan political strategy for the Holyrood 2026 election.”
Scottish Sovereignty Research Group, Director, David Henry
As a non-partisan think tank who researches policies and Scotland’s constitutional future, we welcome the development of Scottish groups working together to help build a better future and wish all those involved much success.
Eva Comrie, on behalf of Independents 4 Independence (I4I)
On behalf of Independents 4 Independence (I4I), I am proud to declare our full support for the Liberate Scotland. A Scotland as One campaign. At this critical juncture in our nation’s history, unity of purpose among all those who believe in Scotland’s right to self-determination is not only welcome, it is essential.I4I was formed to give voice to independent candidates and grassroots activists who believe that Scotland’s future must be shaped by the people, not party politics. The Liberate Scotland campaign reflects those values, offering a cross-party, non-partisan strategy that puts the cause of independence above all else.We urge every individual, group and organisation who shares our goal of a free and sovereign Scotland to come together under this campaign. Let us coordinate our efforts, amplify our message, and commit to securing a majority of pro-independence MSPs at Holyrood in 2026.Together, with determination and unity, we will Liberate Scotland.
Independence candidates, their sponsors and all national, regional and grassroots supporters who are interested in taking part in the Scotland as One campaign, or who would like more information should email one of the following –

Webcom Radio is Now Playing:
I’m thinking of that Kevin Costner film about the guy who builds a baseball stadium in a cornfield “build it and they will come”. This will hopefully bring together all the strong kernels and drop all the chaff. A lot of dedication here, no room for ego’s just patriots rallying to the cause to fight for the whole, the people, us Scots. Wha’s like us? Bravo folks.
That’s very inspiring, Mark. 🏴💙
Thank you, it’s an inspirational move by these guid fowk 🏴❤️🏴
Yes, indeed: Build it and they will come.”
We need to Put Country before Party. No more Procrastination on Our Right to self determination and to form a Government of our Choosing, Not a Devolved British Colonial Administration that can be overuled by 1 man with a S35,that’s not Democracy in Scotland, its The Anglo British States Version of Colonial Democracy that ruled over the British Empires Colonies.Al ghu Brath!Saor Alba.
Too many egos found of their ain voices up to now
Keith Brown: without that S35 Order, we would now have self-ID in Scotland. As a female, I applauded Jack’s action and would do so again. I don’t care that it by-passed Holyrood; Holyrood was willing and eager to give away all my rights to a group of men in frocks.
I hope that Roddy’s and others’ initiative will draw up an undertaking that female people will not be sidelined the moment independence is achieved because this is precisely what has happened in every other independence movement I have researched. Was reading about the women who were tortured and who died to establish Algerian independence from the French. When that was achieved, they were told to cover their heads and go back home to the kitchen.
Same happened in Ireland, in Biafra, in France (WW II resistance), etc. It has happened everywhere, and, although I believe implicitly that Scotland needs independence, and I will vote for it if candidates other than SNP ones stand in my constituency, I will never vote SNP again unless they throw in their lot with the rest and drop the ‘trans’ s**t. Human rights for everyone, but no accessing female spaces whether with a GRC or otherwise because that is just another form of colonization and removal of autonomy every bit as valid as that of Scotland.
A unity of purpose is what is needed, around which all genuine pro-Independence supporters can coalesce on.
A common political process in the domestic sphere will be required and all the supposedly pro-Independence candidates and parties will have to sign up to it so that all votes count as being in favour of that plan. A plan that will lead to liberation from our oppressors.
It is called the #ManifestoForIndependence (see https://newscotlandparty.scot/manifesto-for-independence/):
Supporters of the #ManifestoForIndependence want the politicians to commit to supporting this simple 6 step process in advance of next year’s election. This circumvents the Westminster ‘veto’, is supremely democratic, obtains the explicit endorsement of the people for freedom and, most importantly, acts on that mandate so obtained.
This compliments the excellent work done Salvo and Liberation Scotland on both the international/decolonisation and educational fronts.
With each passing day Scotland’s plight becomes more precarious and our politicians seem more clueless than ever before.
We need our political representatives to stand on principle and not just for the purposes of getting elected for its own sake.
We’ve had more than enough of that these last 10 years.
I don’t quite follow your logic, you want Politicians to commit to your 6 point Manifesto then go on to say politicians are clueless!!🤔
People are sick of politicians, they don’t trust them. (Just look at the turnout at by-elections)
So whether it’s a Mandate or Manifesto politicians never live up to what they first agree to, and the ones we have now, sold out to Westminster and are traitors to our cause.
“Scotland as One” with everything I’ve just read, is the only way to go to a Liberated Scotland.
We need to make the politicians represent us and do what we, the people, want. That is what “Scottish sovereignty” means. We are the boss.
It is the in the Claim of Right (1689) and is the very things that Sara Salyers and Salvo have argued is still extant as per the Scottish Constitution. (And I agree).
I am not sure if you have read the #ManifestoForIndependence but you seem to have either dismissed it or discounted it.
Fair enough if that is the case but
What is your process for restoring Scotland’s independence?
(Please be specific. Just saying “Scotland as One” doesn’t make it happen).
As Scotland as one has not said anything thus far beyond that an independendence alliance has been formed with the intention of fighting Holyrood 2026 it is amazing that others on the extreme fringes of the Independence movement are criticising this initiative.Especially a one trick pony show with both closed ears and a closed mind. At least wait until the plans are revealed before telling us that we are wrong. You keep ploughing your lone furrow and we will continue our plan with inclusion.
An entirely laudable initiative ; well done to all involved in the setting-up and imminent implementation of this long-overdue and most welcome strategy .
The absence of any snP involvement ( as far as I can see ) is , of course , completely predictable ; more disappointing is the lack of ALBA participation ( again , that I can see ) .
If this remains the case , ie if ALBA intends to ” go it alone ” at the next S.E , I’m afraid it will be the end of them as a credible contibutor to the furtherance of our cause , and reveal them to be just another Party Before Principle ( the principle of 100% focus on how best to progress and ultimately acheive Independence ) entity whose main interest is gaining seats and seeking to replace SNP on the Holyrood/W.M going nowhere ( slowly ) treadmill .
If , on the other hand , ALBA are ,or intend to , become in involved in this , really vital , initiative I’ll happily stand corrected .
For the record , taking what you said to Duncanio , above , onboard , Roddy , ie there hasn’t been a formal declaration of intent , so far …….I believe a commitment to the MFI would be a significant and powerful declaration of serious intent : and possible gamechanger .
The responder (Barbara Carey) dismissed/discounted the #ManifestoForIndependence. I, therefore, asked for an alternative path which would result in Scottish Independence. None thus far has been forthcoming, the only response at this time being your own comment.
There is no criticism from me of “Scotland as One”. As you say, there are no ‘plans’ published as yet so any critique is not possible.
The #ManifestoForIndepenence, however, has been laid out and can be subjected to scrutiny – if people so wish they can point out any flaws as they see them.
It is surely much better to engage in that way rather than make reference to “extreme fringes of the the Independence movement”, which hardly sits well alongside your oft repeated calls for ‘unity’.
We asked the author of MFI in the early days to join our discussions with an open mind and an open ear the response we received was “I will only participate if my MFI is accepted by everyone, everything else will fail I have investigated all other options and I have decided they are all wrong ,except me!”
Hardly open mind.
So please do not lecture me on what ‘sits well’
None of us has all the answers all of us can learn and adapt however when you encounter such a closed pompous mindset it is impossible to reach a compromise.
What matters is whether there is merit in the approach – that is what should be getting addressed.
It should be principle before party and personality.
Indeed it should be cause before all especially insatiable egos!
👏👏👏 why do folk criticise an initiative that is just getting started. We don’t need negativity we need a positive thought process which in my opinion this is, a well thought out inclusive approach that I support wholeheartedly
Thank you Elaine. More tomorrow on Prism.
Roddy, just watched, I think, one of the most passionate and enthusiastic TASPs. Really enjoyable and you and your TASP team were firing on all cylinder’s. Brilliant.
One aspect however that I think that needs to be highlighted is the specific fund raising for Liberate Scotland. Maybe I missed it!
Is fund raising for Liberate Scotland to be done via a new link or the Salvo link or your Barrheadboy link?
We will be fund raising soon. Just exactly how is being discussed by the steering group.Watch this space.
Scotlands very own BETTER TOGETHER team, Our CRÈME DE LA CRÈME of Scottish Patriots, no more YES Masters, getting long careers out of holding this country back.. If people keep believing that Political parties such as SNP & sad to say even ALBA. Are going to be the answer to INDEPENDENCE. They need to take a seriously long hard look at themselves in the mirror, & ask, Why can’t my kids get a home, when so many houses seem to be going up, but not council housing for Scots born here & who work hard but on minimum wages. Why am I & my kids losing our jobs..Jobs that seem to go SOUTH on closure.. Why is gran & grandad sitting wrapped up in blankets in the winter, afraid of the heating bills, even food prices where they have to be very careful on their STATE PENSION the lowest in Europe, & further afield. Scotland is an OIL rich country, & Scotland produces so much electricity, that every household could be heated for FREE, and still a huge profit could still be made through exporting what we do not need. Why can’t I get better respite for my disabled Adult/Child, who needs 24 hour care, has to be washed, dressed, fed, changed, every day..Through NO fault of their own..
Scotland IS a rich country, that is the ONLY reason England hangs on to us, they are not even thankful for all the resources they take from this country, Electricity created here in Scotland for example goes down South, Scotland has No GRID of it’s own, so England takes our electricity & charges us to have it put on their English GRID, then out of the four nations of Scotland England Wales & NI, Scotland pays the highest rate for our electric That England took..
Do people really believe that any other country they know, would allow this to happen to their resources? What is wrong with Scots that believe we need to let another country run our affairs, if they just read about Scottish History all the things Scotland gave to the rest of the world, which was much more than England ever gave to improve peoples lives.. WE can be that country again, we can could afford a fully funded NHS for a start, we could keep a hold of the doctors, Nurses & dentists that train here, instead of losing them to other countries.
We would be responsible for our own borders control, should ever another pandemic hit, or just to control the people coming here, we need immigrants but we should be able to choose who we take, who we need. We as a new country do as NZ or Australia or Canada did & still do, we take the best of those people, doctors, nurses, dentists.
What we do not need nor want is for England to populate Scotland with English people that come here for the cheaper homes, better standards of living, yet would vote against us being an Independent country. 53% of Indigenous Scots vote YES, 80% of English voted NO. We need immigration, but we need people who want to work and make this country a better place a safer place to live, & a place they really call home..
There are many English people like that now, who moved here for a better life, & they have been here for decades, calling this HOME. But in the past couple of decades we have seen too many homes being built for the influx coming INTO this country, most will never call this home, and would always see England as their home & vote to remain part of England in any referendum..Because their is NO UNION to call it the UK.. So I say England, because England prefers to call us BRITISH, Yet as things stand today it is ENGLAND that calls ALL the shots, rapes our country of every resource, and charges us the highest prices for what they TAKE..
And for the past 11yrs the Scottish Government has stood by as our resources have been piped down South, all UNIONIST parties that are Registered in England encourage that.. There is NOBODY in HR right now prepared to swear that oath to Scotland & fight for this country with every power they hold as an MSP.. They have sold out for the ERMINE & the high salaries and pensions.. Putting themselves & their parties first, it is time, we elected PEOPLE who think like us, flak like us, & will always put this country before any party or self..
We have to do this, we have to make the 2026 election COUNT make it a true Scottish election, & Stop voting for London registered parties, they do not put Scotland first. Any that do, should join with SCOTL:AND LIBERATED..
Excellent comment.
“Country before party or self”
Hear hear!
Without any shadow of doubt this is the correct approach to gaining our liberation! Well done everyone that’s involved so far and let’s hope this initiative grows and grows!
Unity of purpose, unity of strength and unity of desire to restore Scottish independence, it’s no rocket science but there are some who need to open their eyes and ears and join together with their fellow Patriots and help make this a winning campaign for all of us!
You seem not to want any truck with MFI. I understand the author is difficult to persuade to act collegiately. Do you have an equivalent process to lay before us that we can support? Can the MFI be used or absorbed or used for a debate. I believe it has merit. If you don’t have one you are going to need one and soon.
Meticulous discussions and planning have gone into this entire process. We have everything in place. A single line manifesto will be the norm in every election fought.
How does your plan propose to deal with the matter of legislative competence?
As by your admission “There are sound reasons for my reluctance to “act collegiately” I think it is a need to know basis and you dont need to know.
There are sound reasons for my reluctance to “act collegiately”. Compromise and consensus tend to be lauded without much thought. They are not the unalloyed ‘best practice’ they are generally presented as. By definition, compromise and consensus involve ‘adjusting’ positions and diluting proposals. But what if a position is absolute? What if it is a position based on some fundamental principle? What if a proposals has already been pared down to its essentials? What if that proposal only works if it is implemented as a whole? What if all the steps in a process are connected in such a way that removing or altering any of then causes the whole thing to collapse?
There are circumstances in which compromise and consensus are not merely deleterious but destructive. Before we essay compromise and consensus we should first ask whether these are beneficial or even possible.
Allow me to provide an example. At the core of all my thinking on the constitutional issue is the principle that the people of Scotland are sovereign. Sovereignty is absolute. It cannot be divided or shared. There cannot be more than one ultimate authority. What possible compromise might there be? Look what happens when compromise is prioritised above principle. Look at the position taken by the SNP and Alba Party and most if not all the ‘leading figures’ in the independence movement. On the one hand, they will make great play of the sovereignty of Scotland’s people. But on the other hand, they place Westminster above the people of Scotland. They maintain that the exressed will of the people of Scotland is not sufficient. They say that Westminster’s agreement is required.
In their electioneering rhetoric, they sloganise the principle of popular sovereignty. In practice, they abandon the principle the moment defending it demands that they be resolute in defending it.
Compromise and consensus are too often euphemisms for confrontation avoidance. But what if confrontation is inevitable? What if there is simply no way to achieve an objective without confrontation? What if the insistence on compromise and consensus is in insurmountale obstacle on the path to that objective?
Acting collegiately may be appropriate in some circumstances. It is impossible in circumstances where doing so means abandoning a sincerely held rational position in order to make space for some ill-thought notion that you know won’t be effective.
“We asked the author of MFI in the early days to join our discussions with an open mind and an open ear the response we received was “I will only participate if my MFI is accepted by everyone, everything else will fail I have investigated all other options and I have decided they are all wrong ,except me!””
That is all lies. I was never invited to participate in any discussions. I was merely informed that discussions were taking place. And the quote attributed to me (although not by name) is entirely false. For clarity, at no time did I say what Roddy claims I said.
It is unfortunate that people descend to such tactics.
https://peterabell.scot/2025/04/03/the-wrong-kind-of-unity/
No it is not a lie! I spoke with you on the phone and that is the exact gist of what you said to me.Dont you dare try to lie.By your own admission you do not work in a collegiate way that is obvious. Unlike you the group do not think they have all the answers or that any of us is privy to the magic key.We do work in a collegiate way all the while you remain on the fringe howling at the moon!
John Drummond does good and forensic (that might be the best word in the context of colonial crimes against Scotland) interviews on his TNT shows and this is one of the best ones I’ve heard about the manifesto for independence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQQHlkTORjY&list=PLxc3IWpJ3vJae71wke9wITLZS4I3kIN0s&index=13
