No taxation without representation

A Guest Post by Alistair Hood

Don’t you find it amazing in life that so much can happen, be happening, while it seems that nothing at all is happening?

I was sitting at home today, 06.04.25, listening to another excellent ‘Through a Scottish Prism’ Tartan, Trump & Tariffs show. Some of the most politically savvy people, Scots, having conversations, with deep knowledge and experience, I’d be scared to engage in.

Allan Petrie was talking about UK elections, ‘spoiling ballot papers’ for those who have not been voting.

For an unknown reason, perhaps it was because of the talk around Trump, AKA the President of the United States for the World’s sins, I started to think of Boston Tea Party’s, Clipper ships, Harbours and the fact that I once took part in the tourist version of the famous ‘Boston Tea Party’ and I revelled in throwing tea chests, from a ‘tea clipper’ into Boston Harbour itself.

Then I remembered their 1776 rebellion slogan “No taxation without representation” but, I’ll come back to that.

With the last ten years of stagnation and constant disappointment that we are still attached to this Union, with what seems a weekly increasing burning rage at the ineptitude and failure of the Scottish Government to free us from Westminster, a government that I helped elect with my X and that’s not a ‘kiss’ anymore.

But then it dawned on me. While I’ve been angry thinking that nothing at all is happening, it most decidedly has. Just not led by the party I helped elect to get the job done.

SALVO, Liberation.Scot and the wonderful work they’ve undertaken is now advancing towards the UNITED NATIONS.The purpose is to get Scotland’s case heard on being colonised and not in an alleged Union of Equals! It is even challenging the possibility that “the Union” may have taken place illegally. It has taken them years of work, almost imperceptibly behind the scenes of the ten years of political carnage. It has all been done without the help from the leading ‘independence party.’Considering the ‘help’ they gave to Martin Keatings though that is probably a blessing!

The Prism cast itself and everyone else I read and listen to. Even earlier today, Gavin ‘Grousebeater’ Wardell trying to sort something for the Alex Salmond ‘free education stone’ that like Alex himself, was ‘disappeared’ from SNP history.

So much IS happening, under our noses. By Scots. Smart Scots. Frustrated Scots.

So, here’s my tuppence worth. If you are not intending to vote in Westminster elections and in terms of spoiling Westminster ballot papers, which I wholeheartedly agree with. Scotland’s ‘token at Westminster politicians’ should not be indulging those 533 English MPs there. We should not be prostrating ourselves, in front of the ‘Brits’ just to be ignored and laughed at, I say this: spoil your ballot paper if that is what you wish to do, each and every Westminster one, but get your message over and spoil it with:

“No representation under colonisation”

I will. Will you join me?

  • I’ve spoiled my last two ballot papers having been disenfranchised due to the complicity with the status quo from every party on the ballot. Until there is a candidate who I feel represents the greater interest of Scotland I will continue so to do. I’d decided some time ago to never cast an actual vote in another WM election – it’s not my country but continued to use my vote as a protest and spoil the paper. Quite happy to use your slogan and I wish many more would do the same, thus enying any politician a mandate to do us all harm.

If you can access this book it will inform you why we are where we are today. It is absolutely fascinating.

  • We need a real independence party to vote for. The smaller groups who believe in independence should unite on the list at next Holyrood election as the Independence Alliance and invite the SNP to join them. This would reveal the real motives of the SNP. If they can persuade voters to support the Alliance they could have a powerful voice in parliament.
