ALBA PARTY EXECUTIVE CALLS FOR LEADERSHIP FROM FIRST MINISTER ON UNITY CANDIDATE

The ALBA Party National Executive has called on Humza Yousaf to show leadership by proposing a single Scotland United independence candidate in the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election.

They have delayed a decision on whether to field an ALBA candidate until the 26th August to allow Humza Yousaf to respond to their unity initiative. However, in the meantime they have set the next full ALBA National Council for that date in Rutherglen Town Hall and put in motion all preparations for standing in the election.

Speaking last night after the meeting of the Alba Party National Executive Alex Salmond said;

“The SNP are acting as if they had a political death wish. As things stand there could be at least four independence supporting candidates cutting each others throats in a first past the post election.

Meanwhile the SNP is weakened by financial scandal and an indifferent Government record. These are hardly the best circumstances in which to fight a by-election which is why the bookies have Labour as overwhelming 9-1 on favourites to gain the seat.

There are enough pro-independence supporters in Rutherglen and Hamilton West to win any election but only with a single Scotland United candidate and fought on the overarching issue of securing an independence mandate at the next election.

Humza Yousaf has it in his gift to galvanise independence supporters with a decisive move of unity of purpose and action. That is a much better option for Scotland than presenting the by-election on a platter to Sir Keir Starmer.”

  • Humza won’t. His continuity status depends on it.

I wonder which candidate the Alba Party will stand.

  • Hi I might be a bit thick here but supposing HY says yes to fielding a United Scotland candidate how is it decided who should be that candidate?

  • Alba can but try, yet again extending the hand of cooperation and common sense. If Humza does agree to this most sensible suggestion I’ll be flabbergasted and delighted….but I’m not holding my breath and I’m sure Alba aren’t either. Disgusted at what the SNP has become.

  • I would love to see Eva Comrie standing- she would be absolutely brilliant. I know it’s not practical for her with her professional commitments, but you’re allowed to dream.

  • I sincerely believe that the NuSNP will not join a Scotland United campaign for this election, neither will the Greens. They (NuSNP) are totally deluded in their own power and capabilities. We don’t need to wait till the end of August for an answer…He has to be challenged on this today and he must give his answer NOW! All the NuSNP will do is use the time from now till nominations open is campaign in the media and on the ground for their own candidate.

    • They must be given every opportunity to see the light. Should they fail to do so then they can never blame Alba the way SLAB blames SNP for 1979 Labour Government falling where Callaghan himself blamed his own backbenchers and Scottish haters.

      • Spot on, BB. Callaghan warned the Scottish traitors and others in the Labour ranks that they would be pay a high price for their perfidious stupidity. They haven’t finished paying yet. The SNP will also be paid in kind.

  • I would agree with you John. I would give them another week max, until next Saturday which happens to be the 12th, and if the Yousless bunch are still intent on going it alone lets make it the Glorious 12th for Alba to through their hat in the ring together with the other like minded independistas.

    • I think we can all agree that Mr Salmond is the master strategist and tactician. I know it is difficult but please keep patient just a little longer. Everything in its own good time.

  • The SNP will not agree to a United candidate, and nor will the Greens. I think this marriage made in hell would rather bring Scotland to its knees and burn it to the ground because the people behind both parties are full-on ‘woke’ bampots. They would far rather that Labour took this seat because that lassie who is standing in Margaret Ferrier’s place has no chance. The SNP have been given chance after chance to do the right thing. Even here, virtue signalling and back-stabbing were more important. The Holy Willies (literally, they are all d***s, including the idiot women) who back the ‘wokerati’ are beyond redemption. They need to go, so do nothing to stop them in their moment of self-immolation. More opportunities next year to oust more of them, and, then, the SE will finish them off once and for all. No mercy. They have betrayed too many of us. I look back at all those local meetings and the hard work of raising funds – many of those who baked and collected jumble and held dances and folk evenings were women – and, yet, they were willing and happy to throw all those SNP women under the bus for a cohort of porn-driven autogynephiles and/or fetishists, as well as stabbing every SNP supporter in the back over independence. If they knew it was going to take more than they could muster to achieve independence, they should have stood down and allowed others to do it for them. They are culpable for the mess we are all in now.

  • Fat chance, we all know by now that these chancers are not independence supporters but unionists in SNP clothing

  • The SNP cannot hold the Rutherglen seat. They are toast and Humza knows it because no one trusts the SNP.

Only a unity candidate can win it. A candidate that is popular as a supporter of Scotland is what will keep this seat.

The shift to Labour is because the SNP are so unpopular. But stand the right candidate as the Scotland unity candidate and he, or she will take the seat.

  • Ah, Humza. This one’s for you.

NS is no longer Leader, you are.

So, this debacle is yours to sort. So what is it going to be?

If you can’t stand Margaret, that’s on you, HY. She was trying to do her duty in mad circumstances. She is a warrior.

Frankly, I would like to see Margaret Ferrier as the unity candidate. I think that would work HY.

You get one of your own back, Humza. And a new era begins. What say you?
