One of the joys of having your own podcast is the ability to choose your guests and the topics. We are in that time of year when political parties hold their annual conferences. The Alba Party is holding their event in my home city Glasgow. It will be held in the Woodside Halls on the 28th and 29th October.

The Conference in all the independence parties is the ultimate governing body. This is where all party policies are debated, amended and voted upon. It is also where office bearers and ordinary members are elected by the membership to the NEC. These people, who are elected onto the NEC, are the custodians of the party and the representatives of the members. They are the conduit between the ordinary members and the leadership. In effect they are your voice in the governance of your party.

This week I decided to talk to some of the Alba Office Bearers about their past year on the governing body of the party. I asked how the year was for them and what if anything they hoped to achieve next year if they are once again elected by the membership. Other parties may appoint their NEC, in Alba it is solely down to the members to nominate and choose who represents them on the NEC.

I have had the honour and privilege of working with these wonderful individuals on behalf of the Alba Party members. I have seen first hand the dedication, professionalism and downright hard work of these wonderful individuals. It is my humble opinion to you, the members, of the party, that you could not be served by better people.

Listen in, and if you agree with me about their suitability to their roles then you can nominate these people to represent you once again next year at Conference@albaparty.org All nominations must be in by 6th October. If you would also like me to continue as one of your ordinary NEC members, I too need your nominations.

I am sure when you hear these wonderful people speaking you, like myself will be nominating them all.
