Words Win Wars.

Particularly since 2014 there are certain words and phrases that the pearl clutchers of the Independence movement have deemed unusable. The story goes that using these words will scare away this fabled group known as the ‘Soft Noes.’ These delicate creatures apparently have to be handled with great care or allegedly we will never achieve independence.Although nobody actually has any data or reasoning behind this narrative.

This group are the ones from the more fashionable parts of your village, town, city. The ones that are doing OK out of the status quo with English rule. If you are not sure which areas I am referring to maybe this will help. The areas that never have an Orange Parade. Areas that never have a demonstration or independence march going past their windows. An area that does not have to wait hours for the police to turn up if a crime is being committed in their street. A low crime area. An area that doesn’t have rows and rows of betting shops and a food bank on the corner. An area that probably houses your MP and MSP.

These are also the ones that will shout the loudest when their lifestyle is threatened. The same people that think taxes are too high and Benefits too generous. The same people who think if you are losing £20.00 a week off of your benefits you should just stop smoking, drinking, taking drugs or watching Sky TV. That is obviously why you are in poverty. The same ones that think that poverty is a life style choice and if you weren’t so lazy or stupid you wouldn’t be poor. That your circumstances are all your own fault. They don’t expect to pay more taxes but think as a right they are entitled to the best schools, roads, healthcare and living conditions possible, certainly they should get preference on all these things ahead of you. In other words they do not believe in the Common Weal. They believe in the ‘I’m Alright Jack, fuck you!’

They will vote Unionist every time and the more affluent the area the more likely they are to vote Tory. Not because they have researched the Tory Party, anyone that did that couldn’t possibly vote for those sociopathic criminals. It is a class thing. The poor people in the council houses or ex-council houses are viewed as inferior working class types and they apparently vote Labour or SNP. The logic in the half boilt toff’s mind is we are superior so we vote Tory.

These are the people we are not to offend, and these are the words they must never hear us utter.

Which means whenever you are discussing how Anas Sarwar or Douglas Ross is working with their English Party bosses to keep Scotland part of the English Empire you cannot call them collaborators. That they are actually collaborating with English politicians to the detriment of Scotland is to be ignored. The truth must not be uttered, or people will be offended by the truth.

You must never refer to Scotland as a colony of England. That truth won’t only offend those famous Soft Noes it also embarrasses the Scottish politicians that do nothing to change this situation. The Unionist politicians who want everyone to think we are all one happy English/British nation. The SNP politicians do not want to admit it either, because if they did, awkward questions might be asked as to why they have wasted six mandates to get us away from our imperial masters. Therefore out of sight out of mind. If the word is not used, our politicians cannot be embarrassed into action. £64,470 a year plus unlimited expenses is not to be sniffed at! The ones at Westminster do even better at £82,000.Whats not to like about Scotland being an English colony, eh?

This is the big one, use the ‘Q’ word and the nicey nice wing of the Independence movement shit kittens. I look at all the Scots born politicians and people like Gordon Brown who even today is still promoting English rule over his nation of birth and I cannot think of a better description for him or them than Quislings. If the pearl clutchers have a better way of describing Brown and other Scots in English based Political Parties or those that write for the English owned MSM. I want to hear the alternative word, and I will use it.

If you are helping the English establishment to keep control of your nation of birth and its people, its natural resources are you not indeed someone who betrays friends, the independence cause, and the principles of self-determination? By helping an English Tory Government rule Scotland is this not indeed betraying all of the Scottish working class? Why then can the English defined word traitor not be used to describe these Scots born people who every day help keep Scotland tied to English rule and dominance?

The reason is very simple, as we are seeing with the Gender debate, language is important. Control the language, and you control the narrative. The English imperialists know that if the general public ever get to know the truth and reality about England’s pillage of Scotland, then their days of raping Scottish resources to enrich England are numbered.

That is why you need to start using these words at every opportunity. The words the elite want banned. The words that make them feel uncomfortable. Scotland is treated like a colony of England. While Scotland is actually a joint signatory to the Treaty of Union 1707. When you look at history from that time, Scotland has never been treated equally. It became steadily worse after the 1715 and 1745 Rebellions.

Throughout the time of the Union, Scots born traitors have collaborated with English politicians to make Scotland and Scots feel inferior to their southern neighbours. That way they can steal our assets and our wealth and transfer it to England. That is exactly what is happening every single day.

When people do speak out against it they are immediately called racists, anti- English bigots, cybernats, Natsis it is why Johnson and his cohorts always refer to the SNP as The Scottish Nationalist Party. It is to give out connotations of Scottish Independence supporters being Nazi/fascists. Our pearl clutches rarely say anything as that slur is handed out. Indeed, many of them will agree with that description. It might after all affect their lifestyle if they faced the truth. Our representatives at Westminster with very few exceptions accept daily humiliation, beratings, insults and slurs against our nation. £82,000 a year buys a lot of compliance!

The lies fed to and about Scotland need to be told and retold every day to make the Scottish people think they are indeed too wee, too stupid and too poor to govern themselves. The English imperial rulers depend on the Scots being cowed and lacking in self-esteem. If the majority of Scots ever realise the true extent of the theft of our natural resources and wealth, the English thieves will be gone, pronto!

It is time for Scots to enjoy the riches that have been bestowed upon our land. The only ones enjoying the Scottish bounty are the English. That is only possible because Scottish traitors and collaborators working in English media or representing English political parties in Scotland betray their own nation of birth every single day of their miserable lives. Their actions bring me to another word we are not meant to use.

The crime of betraying one’s country. What else is it but betrayal? Those columnists and politicians that write or speak to the detriment of their own nation every day? They take payment from English newspapers, Broadcasters, Political Parties, English based Think tanks.Their remit, to keep the Scottish people cowed and assist in the theft of Scottish assets. They are not journalists or principled politicians, they are traitors and collaborators committing treason against their own nation of birth every day. Every day they attempt to bring down the Scottish Government in the hope a grand unionist alliance can bring Scotland back to heel.

Scotland’s struggle is not about economics, equalities or fisheries it is about removing our imperial oppressors. It is about Scottish sovereignty. The English imperialists nor their place men and women get to choose the language we can and cannot use. That is part of their colonisation of Scots. The time has come to rid ourselves of these parasites that are holding our nation and cause back. My advice is to use whatever words you feel are appropriate. Nobody has the right to tell you what words are acceptable or otherwise. It is not hate speech it is not abusive foul mouthed rants. It is words that perfectly describe the actions of many Scots. As long as you are not crossing the boundaries of abuse, use the English language to its fullest. They don’t want us using our own language so use their language against them. I am not suggesting taking up arms, I am suggesting taking up language as our weapon of choice.

The more Scots that begin to understand Scotland is a defacto English colony and not an equal partner nation in an equal union the sooner we will be an independent nation.

  • I agree with every single word you have written. I exchanged some words with an English woman in George Square yesterday who was most definitely NOT pro Independence. She told me we could never afford it. Her parting shot to me was, “good luck with your independence mate, you’re gonna need it.”
She had earlier informed me she and her husband had retired to Glasgow because of the friendliness of the people! How very condescending and patronising. She and her ilk can only add to the number, increasing month by month, who would never be persuaded to vote for independence. Something needs to be done about it. Suffice to say, I offered her a couple of suggestions.

  • You need to be cautious in the assertions made in the article. There is a lot of voter behavioural study going on. Social class, actual or assumed, is increasingly not an indication of voting pattern. The orange contingient here in Larkie were organised and voted Conservative of late, but the jacks fly proudest in social housing schemes here. What you can say is that the majority of Scots born voted in favour of independence, because that was researched. You can say that Scotland is highly educated. You can say that EU remain sentiment is correlated strongly with educational attainment ( researched ). And you can say that older voters are most pro UK, most likely to vote, and in some parts of Scotland the cohort includes a lot of wealthy retirees from the colonial powers country.

  • BB, knocking on the doors and delivering leaflets and manning tables I have been called every one of these words and I will let you into a secret BB. We regard them words as medals. At the end of the shift we talk and have a laugh at it. But I have to say these incidents on the doors and streets are receding. As soon as the conversation includes these words the conversation ends and as Michael Russell has told you all, its time to persuade us traitors. Get back to civic nationalism I say. What’s not to like.?

    • Showing your ignorance Sandy by coming here and trying to lie and compound your stupidity by quoting Mike Russell to me. You continue to live in your wee fantasy world and kid yourself on you are an equal Brit with our southern neighbours. How they love the gullible and dishonest. You make their job so much easier.

      • Door knocking, table manning , leaflet delivering Labour \ Trade Union man all my life BB. Only part I do not do is phonebanking. Had the best time of my life in 2014 talking and debating. Went into it believing if Scotland wants Indy so be it. I will respect democracy. Not so people like yourself. I have cemented my beliefs even more now seeing the corrupt to the core Scot Gov we have. They will not go away. We are stuck with them. 30%+ of the electorate in Scotland voting for Indy will always bring this corrupt SNP Gov into power. Downward spiral for Scotland I am afraid because they are absolutely useless and talentless. Keep up your good work though. It is impressive. Also Ian Lawson’s stuff is good. You two see the light and know what is happening.

        • Another one that is only worried about the economic case and not upsetting our imperial masters. You are not allowed to comment again u til such times as you can answer this question. NAME 3 thi fs that can only be achieved by the British Union that cannot be achieved by an independent Scotland. Don’t bleat either my site my rules.

          • 1: Scotland couldn’t borrow money on the Money Markets at near the rates the UK can borrow at , even in Covid times Scottish deficit has soared to 24% while the UK overall is 11% , the year before Scotland was approx 8.7% while UK was around 3%. UK has never defaulted on a loan while a Scottish Deficit of around 8.7% consistently over decades is an unsustainable deficit outside of the UK. EU countries have to be 3% or less to join the EU. the EU as has been said often would make make Scotland like Greece but without the Sun. Use Google to find out how the EU “helped” Greece to get its Deficit down and the severe Austerity to Greek people it caused , it made Tory austerity pale in comparison. But i suspect you don’t understand any of this anyway because like most Nationalists your own personal real financial knowledge is near Zero anyway and you are just happy to beleive what other Nationalist Sociopaths feed to you on that instead.
2: Scotland couldn’t start a new currency no matter how often the clueless fantasisers tell you otherwise , Scotland would be £12bn per annum worse off just by leaving the UK every year on average, public services would be slashed , Taxes across the board would also have to rise but only here thus making Scotland and Scots poorer than RUK (RUK meanwhile would be at least £12Bn a year better off with no fiscal transfer to Scotland anymore). Starting a new currency would cost upwards of £40Bn to defend the “Scottie poond” from Speculators like George Soros et al..remember what happened in the 1990’s with the EMU and what it cost the UK to defend the £? A Scottish Currency would be infinitely weaker, we would lose the fight as we could not afford to fight them. Scottish lives would be financially ruined.
3: The UK Gov made clear there would be NO SHARING of the £ in any Currency Union in 2014 so by merely USING the £ (Sterlingisation) instead of Sharing it then an Indy Scotland wouldn’t have any say in Interest rates nor any say in monetary control as Scotland has right now as part of the UK.

So there you are.. three things you asked for that in truth you understand absolutely nothing about anyway but you won’t ever admit that will you.

4: Scotland by the time it ever got Indy won’t be able to likely rejoin the EU because if you watch the current elections in France and Germany even those countries are now talking about leaving if the left wing wins in France and the Right wing wins in Germany , there possibly won’t be an EU left in 6-10 years time, both the Germans and French are tiring of paying for the smaller less industrious countries continual failures …and yet you think they would take on a financially failing Scotland too ? …dream on.

          • Larry, a couple of questions for you.
            1. Why would an independent Scotland not be able to borrow on similar terms to the UK? What assumptions are you making here?
            2. When you quote deficit figures I assume you are referring to GERS data. Do you think the GERS framework would be valid to determine the deficit (or otherwise) of an independent Scotland? Further, if the GERS framework was changed, perhaps with a more acute framing of data, do you think the deficit figures would change in relation to Scotland within the UK?
            3. Why would Scotland not be able to start a new fiat currency?
            4. You note fiscal transfer figures. What about the flows of revenue as a result of what would now be international trade? What impact would this have on an independent Scotland and a rump UK?
            5. Tell me how speculators would attack a free floating currency?
            6. Why was it necessary for the UK to defend the Pound in 1992 (the clue is in question 5)?
            7. If France and Germany were seriously suggesting leaving an organisation where they are the biggest and most influential players, how would this actually happen in the timescale you cite? What lessons do you think they would draw from the UK’s departure and how would both nations benefit from withdrawal from the EU?
            8. With its educated population, modern infrastructure, manufacturing economy, financial services, renewable energy potential and natural wealth, why do you think an independent Scotland would fail financially, particularly when other similar sized and even smaller countries have not?
            I’m not expecting any answers.

          • @ Larry the sheep ,Larry you go on about Scotland’s deficit , as others have said you must be quoting GERS whose figures have been ridiculed time and time again , Larry where is ENGLANDS GERS FIGURES , Wales and NI have their own ALLOCATED funding as does Scotland , where is ENGLAND’S ALLOCATED FUNDING , Also Scotland Wales and NI have their devolved parliaments WHERE IS ENGLAND’S devolved parliament

        • Sandy your delusion and stupidity is insulting to the working classes , I have been a believer of trade unions all my life and I am 70 , I stopped being a believer of what currently passes for trade unions for at least 25 years . The trade union movement today is a LIE they no longer protect the worker they are more interested in feathering their own nests , when was the last time you heard trade unions fighting for their workers

Liebour politicians in Scotland are and have been traitors to their country and fellow countrymen , they have collaborated with and been controlled by London rule , THEY have stolen our seas remember Brown and Blair moving the sea border , THEY have stolen our OIL remember John Jappy”s report being hidden for decades , THEY have returned £1.5 billion pounds to the English treasury because Lard Jack couldn’t think of anything worthwhile to spend it on in Scotland even though we had endemic poverty

Sturgeon and the current SNP are shite, they too are traitors and collaborators but THEY ARE NOT INDEPENDENCE , EVERY Scotsman and Scotswoman should strive for independence , be proud and patriotic and fight to ensure a better fairer life for their children and future generations , Scotland can and will be better and WE Scots can make it so , we don’t need any other country to enslave us or STEAL our RESOURCES

        • Sandy your delusion and stupidity is insulting to the working classes , I have been a member and believer of trade unions all my working life and I am 70

I stopped being a believer of what currently passes for trade unions for at least 25 years , the trade union movement today is a LIE , they NO longer even attempt to protect the workers they are more interested in feathering their own nests and TALKING big but doing nothing , when was the last time you heard trade unions fighting for their workers

Liebour politicians in Scotland do NOT represent Scotland they have proven that they are only answerable to their London masters , they are not only collaborators and traitors they are cowards into the bargain , THEY allowed Blair and Brown to move the sea borders , THEY allowed WM to deliberately hide the John Jappy report that showed Scotland’s immense wealth in OIL , THEY accepted Lard (arse) McConnell returning £1.5billion to the english treasury because he couldn’t think of anything to spend it on in Scotland even though poverty was endemic in THEIR Scotland

Sturgeon and the SNP are also collaborators and traitors to Scotland and Scots but they are NOT independence , every Scot should strive for independence to benefit our children and future generations irrespective of what political party they support , Scotland doesn’t need any other country to manage our wealth and resources we can do a better job where OUR citizens will benefit from our hard work

      • Is that the same Mike Russell who in his own Book “Grasping the Thistle” stated that when Independent Scotland’s NHS and even the Civil Service would be sold off , isn’t it time the SNP came clean with these plans so that people actually knew what they were voting for ?

    • Nice, polite, civic nationalism lost us the vote the last time around. Time we called colonialism exactly what it is. Ask a Welsh person, they’ll be able to tell you all about it.

  • Excellent follow-up to your conversation with Alf Baird. I’m with you all the way and can think of a few more choice English terms I’d like to use from time to time – but won’t.

That cold isn’t holding you back!

  • Spot on.

” Don’t listen to the BBC Scotland traitors ” is simply powerful and true.

We must start using the correct words.

  • Regardless of how accurate it is, more name calling is going to get us precisely nowhere as the only reaction it will get is for each side to dig in deeper. Trench warfare has been going for a couple of years now and it’s not generating anything useful.

While maintaining the intensity of the charges against the unionists you need to get clever. Ian Gourlay’s article on Yours for Scotland yesterday, THE REAL QUESTION. CAN ENGLAND SURVIVE WITHOUT US?, https://yoursforscotlandcom.wordpress.com/2021/09/19/the-real-question-can-england-survive-without-us/ offers an interesting line of attack.

Scotland is being pulled into the quicksand of England’s inevitable and unstoppable decline. That’s the charge you can level against the pearl clutchers, the prius drivers and the self-appointed self-righteous. Their desire for stability, decency and unwillingness to frighten the mythical soft-noes will damn us all. It’s time they were made to wake up and smell the decay.

In the war of words don’t bother throwing insults, bring out the big guns and the tanks. As Ian Gourlay says:

“The consequences for Scotland remaining in the UK however are clearly far too serious for the push for independence not to be made in the most clear and robust terms.”

    • With respect while the article is very good it is same old same old policies, finance the way to independence is for the people of Scotland to realise they ar being treated like a colony and betrayed by the middle and upper class that want to protect their wealth more than free their country. You are displaying that trait here and now.

      • I completely agree. The economic argument is of interest to almost nobody even though it’s the plank on which everything stands.

It’s not the numbers but the spectre that if we continue down this path then it’s going to be the ruin of us all. In that sense the soft-noes, the hard-noes and the soft-yeses are taking us all to Hell (and probably war with China) and they must be shaken out of their stupor by fair means or foul.

Labelling people as quislings will achieve exactly nothing.

        • What do you base that on? If it makes them uncomfortable I am happy. What is a better word to describe Brown. In my blog I ask for a different word to describe his actions. You can’t just say don’t use, that word without offering an alternative.

        • Stuart: you are always a very thoughtful and insightful commentator, but, in this instance, I think BB is right. We have tried every way to win them over. They don’t wish to be won over. Most – not all – are unthinkingly anti Scottish, to boot, while, perversely, accusing us of anti Englishness. Just because we have done something for 300+ years does not mean we have to go on doing the same thing over and over, like a hamster on a wheel. We know our country is going to hell and that those in Westminster have deliberately created the worst scenario for us; we know that those who need the most help and support will lose out even more.

In pre revolutionary Russia, the signs were so obvious well before the October Revolution that the people had had enough, and that the whole shebang was going to both implode and explode at the same time. In pre revolutionary France, the same. The brightest people around the Tsar warned him that it could not be contained indefinitely and the brightest people around the king knew that the French poor, led by the intellectuals, would eventually rise up and bloodshed would follow.

It is not a case of being anti independence or even anti Scottish, albeit that is precisely what many, many NO voters were and remain, quite a number being English Nationalists and supremacists, it is the case of not being so stupid that you can’t see the wood for the trees, of listening to the warning bells and of stopping talking about those who want independence as some form of deviant life-form. Independence is perfectly natural. It is trying to thwart it that is utterly perverse. It will not end well, Stuart, not at all.

      • I wrote the article and am not aware of much (any?) information that was previously pushed to highlight the weaknesses of remaining in the UK due to the inherent weaknesses in the English economy, so I fail to see how it is the ‘same old policies’. In the run up to Sep 2014, the ‘defend Scotland from the endless financial attacks’ tactic, without any similar attacks on England’s financial position, was I think a massive mistake. It left us always on the backfoot. In all the ineffective defensive political explanations about GERS, not once did I hear ‘let’s look at the UK’s trade balance deficit’. I still hear people who I think like the idea of independence, end with ‘yeah but we can’t afford it’. All because of failing to discredit the GERS figures and failing to highlight the danger to Scotland of being in a UK that has a huge trade deficit that is caused by a huge English trade deficit.

The economic side is always important because it largely determines what can be supported financially and how much support is available – health, education etc. Scotland is financially subsidising England. If that’s not the heart of how to win support for independence then what is. Class?

    • Stuart try and get properly educated , England has population of over 60 million people the majority of which live in the most industrious and closest to Europe parts of the UK (higher levels of European trade at cheaper cost to conduct =more profit= equals more tax revenues ), density of population is what generates the most wealth (think about Hong Kong and Singapore, high density populations generating high tax revenues but needing to spend less on Infrastructure because they are so small, those both have much the same populations as Scotland but Scotland has far far greater costs to pay out annually to support our sprawling infrastructure over the Highlands and Islands especially which are a huge financial burden for the number of people who live in those places. On top England has the financial heart of the UK the “City of London ” an area approx one mile square financial district that hardly anyone lives in that in 2019 generated £75Bn in Tax Revenues (thats £10Bn more than the whole of Scotland did in the same year ) that then gets spread around the UK to help pay for Public Services. https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/supporting-businesses/economic-research/research-publications/total-tax-contribution-of-uk-financial-services I’d really like to know where on earth the source of information comes from that England couldn’t get along without Scotland because the truth is that if Scotland left the UK then the remaining part of the UK would end up £11bn-£13bn per year on average better off. While we would be the same amount worse off. Ian Gourlay clearly knows absolutely nothing, how can so many no marks get continually away with bullshitting so many people ? https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/supporting-businesses/economic-research/research-publications/total-tax-contribution-of-uk-financial-services

      • Wilma, half of Scots live in or close to poverty in what is an under-developed country – that is entirely due to the UK ‘union’.

Independence is priceless; ask any other former colony, for none are asking to get back under England’s yolk of bondage.

Your’ not Fred Flintstone’s other half, perchance?

  • Excellent Roddy, I have always said that when change is needed, the last people who should be in charge of the process are the ones who benefit from the status quo and that is exactly the situation we are in with our so-called politicians and press. Great article

  • You have it, they are quisling traitor low lives and they do it for english gold. This now includes the SNP unfortunately. Not all the nay sayers are middle class tories though, we also have the hard core yoon blue noses to contend with.

The social class thing is english and deeply ingrained, well seeing the lower class guy here is a wee Scotsman.. https://youtu.be/C4HflC2L7M4

  • The right of a people to self-determination is a cardinal principle in modern international law (commonly regarded as a jus cogens rule), binding, as such, on the United Nations as authoritative interpretation of the Charter’s norms.
It states that people, based on respect for the principle of equal rights and fair equality of opportunity, have the right to freely choose their sovereignty and international political status with no interference.

    “With NO interference”
    The BBC
    The UK media
    Major Companies including Banks
    Westminster
English Settlers (retired to the cheap “region”)
    Westminster Commons and Lords
    Etc etc

    Hardly – NO interference!

  • BB: we are living, uniquely, in a time of almost universal vacuous and sanctimonious virtue-signalling nothingness. A proper kick up the rear end of these empty vessels needs to be a priority. By actually doing something concrete – no, not marching or rallying, although these are important, too – and that will be to push the SNP into holding a plebiscitary election before invoking independence and the Treaty in the UN.

That must be ALBA’s main task from now till 2024, and the GE. Forget all the deflection about a GE being no use because we need a SE (independence being the role of Holyrood) because the MPs are as important as the MSPs in this instance as they will be the ones to carry the message to Westminster that, no, it’s not au revoir, it’s good-bye. We have already won a majority of seats and votes at the SE just gone; the local elections are next; then the GE. A full house, hopefully. Whatever, 2024 is the target.

The Unionists (Vichy Scots and collaborators) have been warned and one word about partition or dismembering our country and we will approach the UN, as a people’s movement, even sooner. Give them no quarter. None. They’re either with us or against us now. The pussy-footing and indulging has gone on too long already. All English people up here cease to be British when they step across the border to set up home here: they become Scots with an English heritage, as Scottish emigrants to Australia become Australians with a Scottish heritage and as emigrants to New Zealand become New Zealanders with a Scottish heritage. It’s not difficult. No Northern Ireland here.

Had Michael Collins overrun the six counties as he wanted to do, and was prevented from doing by de Valera, there might have been a few casualties of the die-hards, but the festering hatred that fermented after 1921 and led to the well over 3000 deaths, and all the accompanying trauma and misery for their families on both sides of the divide would have been stifled at birth because the South – Eire – has never discriminated against Protestants as Catholics were discriminated against routinely in NI.

Pussy-footing decisions in politics are often the worst kind of decisions, as Scotland is discovering. After independence, we can hold a ratifying referendum and start to operate a system of citizenship that is both implied by birth but also by opting in. That is roughly the way that the three Baltic States managed their independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and they were starting from a much lower base than we would be.

  • Aye Roddy, it’s no before time that we started calling and exposing every fuckin wan o them Ferguson’s whit they urgency fuckin traitors.

  • Fuck the pearl clutchers Roddy, we also need to see noisy protests every time the traitorous wee German betty shows her face in Scotland.

  • Yes indeed, Roddy: Whoever controls the language controls the narrative, including how recipients of that language come to picture themselves and their situations. Maybe, one day, hopefully very soon, our politicians, those we regard as our-own, will grasp that that fact and employ it, relentlessly. “Scotland is an English colony!” would be a fine piece of language—lacking nothing in the way of evidence— to begin with.

    • Aye Joseph, oor ain language is critical to the liberation of an oppressed peoples, the Scots language in our case. Language helps form our national identity which gives us our national consciousness without which there would be no desire for national independence. Which explains why most peoples in self-determination conflict are linguistically divided. An Anglophone hegemony and resultant socio-linguistic prejudice reflects a cultural division of labour and helps explain inequality between ethnic groups.

    • Hamish, a lot of Scots support the Union primarily because they have developed a colonial mentality, which is no surprise really after 300+ years of colonial oppression. Some Scots even celebrate their colonial oppression.

FYI: “A colonial mentality is the internalized attitude of ethnic or cultural inferiority felt by people as a result of colonization, i.e. them being colonized by another group. It corresponds with the belief that the cultural values of the colonizer are inherently superior to one’s own.”

As Frantz Fanon reminds us: “Colonialism is a disease of the mind.”

Naturally, the only remedy for this ‘condition’ is independence.

    • I don’t think it’s possible now in our polarized society to be both a Unionist and a genuine supporter of what is best for Scotland. Personally, I did did a fair bit of research into the results, and I always came up with the same answers however you looked at it: NO voters voted for themselves and only themselves and their own self-interest.

They might have had a number of different reasons, and some of those reasons might well have been legitimate, but, in the end, they voted for themselves and gave little thought to the bigger picture. Independence supporters, on the other hand, mostly saw the bigger picture.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with self-interest per se, but it has to be of the enlightened variety or things start to come apart at the seams. That is precisely what has been happening since 2014, and it was eminently predictable, given the results. When you have one group of people or an alliance of several groups of people who, on their own, are minorities of varying sizes, and their mindset is allowed to predominate against the interests of a larger group, social cohesion starts to fall apart.

Maybe the Unionists will triumph, but the cost will be very high, one way or another, and there can never be any guarantee that the result will be accepted, precisely because it has been an imposed result: as the 2014 result was imposed on Scots by an alliance of minority, unenlightened self-interest of Scottish Unionists (British ideologues and middle-class Scots, in the main); English Nationalists and supremacists; and EU residents terrified of literally being sent home in the event of independence. By any rational analysis, that was, and is, a recipe for disaster.

      • Lorna I have always admired the patience and empathy ingrained in your comments , you have always had consideration for the people whose views you are unaligned with , even at the start of the GRA non debate you TRIED exceptionally hard to respect and consider those who were the innocent legitimate sufferers of dysphoria

But you quickly came to the realisation that the proposed GRA was not about them it was about something else entirely and you have altered your approach to THAT THREAT and took a more forceful realistic decision to expose the dangers and threats to women posed by these perverts and deviants

I am happy to say that your openness to accept the ability to utilise the correct words to describe the persons engaging in the continued subjugation of Scotland indicates to me that people who previously would have objected to the use of those words as being harsh or divisive now realise that there is no other way to describe those people or their actions against Scotland and her people

        • Thank you, Robert. You are right: I have always supported both civil and human rights for trans people, which, indeed, they have already. It took a great deal of time and effort to research this subject. Ray Blanchard was known to me and I searched for others having overturned his work, but none have, with any degree of success, so his studies and research, augmented by the research of others, still stands.

Most of us, when we thought about it, always suspected a sexual element to cross-dressing and wanting to present as a women, but body dysphoria (gender dysphoria is a new element, inserted by Stonewall and its allies) is obviously a very emotionally-charged aspect of some transsexualism. However, Blanchard was certain that even those with body dysphoria could also be paraphilics (not all, crucially) so we really are talking about the vast majority of those who claim to be trans, albeit trans men are different again because most sexologists, psychologists and psychiatrists appear to agree that the source of the pain for females is not sexual, in the main, but rooted more in either lesbianism or a flight from societal pressure on females to be what men want them to be: Barbie dolls/Mother Teresa/vamps, etc.

I do think it behoves all of us to ask ourselves how we would feel if a member of our own family decided he or she was trans. The plight of children is of even greater worry. Condemnation did not seem to be of any great value, but neither did skirting around the real issues, so I started to ask why all these male-bodied individuals – trans women – would seek to enter female spaces and rights, and that led me to Sheila Jeffries and her studies on men’s sexual rights groups and men’s rights groups (very similar in many ways) and my initial instincts – that this was a concerted and underhand effort to overturn over a century of women’s rights, to gain access for sexual reasons, to gain access for reasons of pushing women out of all public spaces in order to take over their sex-based jobs and to unleash Queer Theory on our society (removal of all sexual and societal restraints) – appeared to be sound.

Do I still feel sympathy for autogynephiles and fetishists? Yes, but not to the extent that I would ever agree to their wholesale entry into female sex-based spaces and rights – self-ID. I’ll call a spade a shovel because that is what it is in this context. Also, in the independence sphere, not being truthful about what we must do and say to gain our independence is counterproductive and will halt any moves towards it. In this sense, the two issues are closely related and intertwined: both in the fact that they are intertwined because GRA reform will affect independence and independence will affect self-ID; ergo, independence will never happen till self-D and GRA reform are kicked into touch. The people who support GRA reform and self-ID are uninterested in independence, and it is not their reason for being in the SNP, and those who don’t see the link are wilfully blind, I’m afraid.

      • You are right, Lorna, about the nature of the vote split on the independence question, which is essentially between those representing and seeking to further the coloniser (i.e. usurper) interests versus the interests and human rights of the colonised. Which reflects the fact that independence is also about decolonisation. Another clear divide in the vote is related to Scotland’s longstanding imposed Cultural Division of Labour and Anglophone meritocratic elite, whilst the vast majority of Yes voters are Scots speakers, the latter for the most part excluded from the nation’s elite under colonialism due to socio-linguistic prejudice; which fits with the reality that most peoples in self-determination conflict are linguistically and hence culturally divided.

  • Excellent article, Scots traitors and there have been many of them over the years, along with the gatekeepers which proliferate or institutions and educational bodies, promoting a foreign countries agenda over our own peoples wellbeing, starving them of our history, culture and language, and in return deriding Scots for not being thankful enough for what the union has done for them.

Its said that Westminster stole around £45 trillion from Indian during its subjugation by the British over a shorter period of time than Scotland has been trapped inside this union a country treated like a cash cow colony, that’s led to widespread poverty deprivation, and has even affected the Scottish psyche, to such an extent that many Scots feel inferior to their neighbours South of the border.

Of course this could not have happened without the treacherous b*stards that gatekeep for them in Scotland, the wretches know as House Jocks, who care not for Scotland or their fellow Scots, but owe their allegiance to a foreign master.

The House Jock combined with their Westminster masters have done such a good job at suppressing Scots that I can’t think of any radical action that physically railed against the union since the 1820 Radical war, such is the apathy among Scots.

  • Lorna Campbell, what about the Ferhard on Sea boycott of Protestants in Eire. Admittedly it was an initiative of the local Catholic clergy, not the Irish state.

    • Eastender: just saw your comment now. You are right, though, it was not instigated by the state but by a Catholic priest. I am the product of a Protestant/Catholic marriage, but was not brought up in the Catholic faith, in Presbyterian Scotland, and am neither one nor the other, by choice. However, I have probably been to the Catholic Church as often as the Protestant through family affairs. De Valera, I think, did intervene to try and put a stop to the boycott, which was incredibly small-minded and uncharitable, even though the practice was for mixed marriage children to be baptised in the Catholic faith and brought up as Catholics. De Valera, however, was a religious conservative and intimated that he wished that the wife would return the children to her husband.

I did a wee study a few years ago on the prevalence or otherwise of religious bigotry in Eire, and, even in its early years, it was never a place of persecution of Protestants: indeed. many of them held top and prestigious positions in government, education, the civil service, etc. The drive to reintroduce cultural nationalism did lead to resistance from Protestant cultural figures like James Joyce who decamped, oddly enough, to another Catholic country, but he never suffered persecution for his Protestantism. Indeed, a number of the leaders of the land reform movement were Protestants. This contrasts very starkly with the very determined suppression of civil rights, job opportunities, etc. for Catholics in the North, which led directly to The Troubles. This suppression of Catholic rights was ingrained in Northern Irish society from top to bottom, in the police, in government, in the civil service, in education, in the shipyards, et al.

  • It is precisely because of the imprecision of thinking, let alone language, that independence was lost in 2014. There was no case made except a `business as usual` case. The almost hysterical focus on `positive` campaigning meant that the whole range of negative arguments against the union, especially the economic and environmental ones, were absolutely lost. I saw no evidence at the time that anyone in the `Yes` movement, let alone the SNP, understood that. Because I’ve supported independence for 34 years, I found it an utterly depressing experience. If I hadn’t already been an independence supporter, I would have voted no. No-one convinced me to support independence – I worked that out myself. I think those that are now verging into the `indigenous` Scots territory ought to reflect on that, before telling people like me, born in England, that I have no right to vote on my own country’s future. I am with Ian Gourlay on this. I would never advocate a purely economic case for independence, but the economic arguments made at the time were wholly inadequate. There was no vision of what an independent Scotland could be like – only Commonweal has even attempted to do this, and they have only covered part of that case. I didn’t even bother reading the White Paper (written by Nicola Sturgeon), as I was so disappointed in the case made online and in the mainstream media. That the `Wee Blue Book` – published too late to make the crucial difference between winning and losing – was published by a computer games journalist working in his own time and to a crowd-funded budget was the only attempt made to provide a working knowledge of the facts and figures to support independence, should shame the leadership of the indy movement – but it doesn’t.

I watched the SNP become too top-down for my taste, and left in 2000. There were extremely knowledgable people who could have helped to advance the case for independence, but they were treated as having no value. Some of the politicians in the party were gagging to get their hands on the British Civil Service, so they could make `respectable` careers for themselves.

Don’t talk to me about culture and language – I know a fair bit about that. I could also tell you about the history of Scotland, which includes elements of colonisation – but also collusion and division. All of which has been blithely ignored by those stupid people on Twitter inviting anti-Brexit English people to `come on up` and they’ll `put the kettle on`. Dear God.

  • Well, they say that mud sticks. Maybe that’s why the other side are ever so keen to throw the smelly stuff at us, no matter how untrue. The stuff we can throw back will certainly cause panic and uproar, mainly because it’s true and the truth hurts. We should certainly throw a bit their way also, and I can think of no one more deserving to start with than that awful creature Gordon Brown.

  • It is precisely because of the imprecision of thinking, let alone language, that independence was lost in 2014. There was no case made except a `business as usual` case. And now the overcompensation begins ….

    • What an excellent comment, Fiona, and I have to agree with much of it. It has been a case of “let’s get independence without rocking the boat, offending anyone or stating anything at all that might suggest that we would diverge from the status quo”. It cannot be done on those terms; it is an impossibility. However, Alec Salmond wanted, from 2007, to run a steady ship, govern well within the constraints of devolution and show people that, initially, we would not career away from everything that had known.

It did not work for our EU residents, or for our rUK residents. It did work, to an extent, for our Scots-born Scots and those willing to keep an open mind, those like you, who voted YES at almost 53% – not high, but enough in any country that calls itself a democracy. That almost 75% (three-quarters) of all rUK residents in Scotland voted NO was a big wake-up call – or should have been in the sense that we were up against it. Instead of asking why that should be the case, the powers-that-be in Scotland decided that these particular voters needed to be coddled and ‘persuaded’ and pandered to lest they think that we are all anti English.

It never seemed to have occurred to the powers-that-be in Scotland that these voters were being anti Scottish, and that a good part of their opposition was based on fear of being driven out after independence, a natural kind of English supremacist/nationalist narrative and, last but not least, financial considerations. In 2014, most of those who had come north were middle-class, well-heeled people with money and no mortgage, and their natural allies were the Conservatives, and, to a lesser extent, Labour and Lib Dems.

They were also English students coming north to take up university places and, therefore, with little skin in the game, longer term, but a short-term self-interest that did not, or could not, see the harm that could be done to indigenous Scots who wanted out of the Union. From information from others, and from first-hand knowledge of attitudes on the doorstep when canvassing, I have no hesitation in saying that, because it is true. I also found the opposite: English people who were very supportive of independence; and Scots who were viscerally opposed. Nonetheless, the balance fell in favour of the anti independence side whose reasoning was “let’s stay together” emotional and financially hard-headed at the same time because it suited their self-interest.

None of those matters was ever really addressed so that a move away from independence was grounded in 2015, when a tranche of former far left Labour voters decamped to the SNP, seeing that it was the party of government and their favourite policies could be pushed through by infiltrating every aspect of the party. What you advocate – a far stronger push towards independence without pandering to purely self-interest on either side of the divide – is what most of us who have left the SNP also advocate. Personally, I am not really in favour of removing anyone’s vote, although I can see the rationale, and I am in favour of calming people’s fears with an option of citizenship to all in Scotland, regardless of origin.

For me, the English in Scotland are Scots of English heritage, just as there are Scots of Pakistani heritage, of Polish heritage, of many heritages. At the end of the day, though, they are Scots. What I would like to see, and what many of us would like to see, is those Scots of English heritage, in particular, showing at the ballot box that they are Scots of English heritage and not simply English, owing their allegiance always, first and foremost, to England and Westminster. We are asking them to put Scotland first, and to vote for her betterment by voting for our independence – because, soon, it will be too late, and the opportunity to break the Union via the ballot box, peacefully, will be lost.

      • Albert Memmi’s perspective was that: ‘independence is a matter only for the colonized, and has nothing to do with the colonizer’.

      • “For me, the English in Scotland are Scots of English heritage, just as there are Scots of Pakistani heritage, of Polish heritage, of many heritages. At the end of the day, though, they are Scots.”

This is where I disagree with you Lorna they are not Scots until they become citizens and they cannot do that until we once again become a separate independent state , their children if born in Scotland are Scots or if they are born to a Scot they are entitled to claim Scottish part heritage , I personally don’t believe in dual national passports if you move to a country permanently and freely take out citizenship of that country then IMO you should renounce your original passport , you would still have your heritage of wherever but you would assert your loyalty to your new country

I don’t understand the eagerness to proclaim that anyone that wants to be Scottish then automatically becomes Scottish , is there no value in being indigenous Scots , is the Scottish nationality of less importance than indigenous first nation Americans , or indigenous Maoris , or indigenous Aborigines , are they as eager to hand out their nationality to everyone from everywhere or do they have standards that are expected of others such as loyalty

        • I don’t think I said that, Robert. I distinctly said that citizenship could be co-opted – that is, applied for, after independence. I have never said that I support immediate citizenship just by turning up here. In past comments on Iain Lawson’s blog, I believe it was, I also stated that land ownership, property ownership and a host of other things should be tied to nationality and citizenship. Anything else is colonization.

What I would find hard to stomach, to be honest, would be if people who had lived here for years were denied citizenship if they choose to apply for it. Many people in the UK have joint Irish citizenship and passports. Many others have joint passports from both the UK and other countries. We need to be careful about excluding people because of who they are. I believe in human rights, and I don’t believe in taking human rights away from anyone, which, in the independence issue (and in GRA reform) is being done.

All this could have been sorted out years ago, to be put into place immediately on independence. Those who voted NO in 2014, and who were relative newcomers, should have been made aware, if they did not already know, that deliberately thwarting Scots’ independence is contrary to international law. I stated that at the time and have continued to do so many, many times since. That was never done. Instead, pandering and fawning was the preferred method of ‘persuasion’ .

Too much pandering to, and fawning over, minority groups leads directly to their believing that they are special and a sense of entitlement, quite undeserved, sets in. That is what I believe another referendum would show which is why it should be a last resort, not a first. It is also what I believe will be the case when the SNP tries to push through GRA reform, and, in both cases, a backlash is only to be expected from the majority – who are indigenous Scots (and their allies) on the independence issue, and the larger part of the Scottish population, on GRA reform, respectively. Colonization can take many different form and the colonization of women’s spaces and rights is just as cruel and wicked as the colonization of our country. Those who enable either form are collaborators – Vichy Scots or Vichy women.

          • I apologise Lorna if I have misunderstood your sentiments , it is just that I feel that so many people undervalue Scottish Nationality , the continued narrative that WE should be GRATEFUL that people have chosen to come to Scotland really rankles with me , no THEY should be GRATEFUL that we have allowed them access to our beautiful country with bountiful resources which they can enjoy

When people raise the blood and soil narrative to shut down and demean views re the franchise I refer to Sturgeon opening up the consultation on GRA to the world and anyone who had a vested interest to gerrymander opinions on the matter , it should be indisputable that only opinions from people from Scotland who are directly affected by any and all legislation that impacts the citizenry of Scotland should have any validity
As you say many things are the direct result of a colonised attitude of mind where other parties HAVE to be considered and offending anyone of opposing views is frowned upon

I do not want to deny or refuse anyone the vote who lives and contributes to Scotland but this situation has arose because again the SNP has failed to spot the deliberate manipulation of the franchise by WM to gerrymander the vote

        • Robert: the Baltic States did not refer or defer to Russia/Soviet Union at all when they took their independence. That is what we have to learn to do, and, until we do, we are stuck on the turntable going round and round in ever-decreasing circles. Whole swathes of Scotland are now almost alien to Scots, and whole villages in some areas are entirely English.

The young Scots-speaking poet who was hounded off her on-line site by horrible, mainly middle-aged (presumably, Unionist, bit certainly misogynistic) men is just the latest example of anti Scottishness that exists in Scotland. Most Scots just don’t see it for what it is, but would have a go at anyone whom they thought had made an anti English remark, when it is merely factual observation of our dire and precarious situation today. It really is a disgrace in what purports to be a separate country and in what, according to the Treaty IS a separate country. Women are told to shut up and not mention their concerns, and so are Scots, and both are done in ways that are manipulated by minority groups, and their vociferous allies, in their own self-interest.

  • “That way they can steal our assets and our wealth and transfer it to England. That is exactly what is happening every single day.”
I didn’t think there were that many stupid people left on the planet ? https://chokkablog.blogspot.com/2019/12/how-much-of-scotlands-tax-revenue-does.html
Has Alex Salmond or Elsie Sturgeon ever accused anyone in the UK Gov of “stealing Scotlands assets” ? No of course they haven’t because its nothing but an invented lie by halfwit lying propagandists and not in the slightest part true. Are you deliberately lying to people yourself or do you too actually beleive it ? 🙂

    • Russ, sadly it is true and and even more sad are people like you.

Fraser of Allander – nothing but a Britnat institution. The universities in Scotland are controlled by Britnats

    • Russ.

What utter bollocks, try posting a link that tells the truth on Scotland’s finances, such as this one.

      https://www.businessforscotland.com/

Posting links to a doggie biscuit salesman and wannabe economist KH, whose already had his arse kicked on economics by a real economist Professor Richard Murphy just about sums you up laddie.

  • Meanwhile with all the empty supermarket shelves, the poor bastards that voted for Brexit are queuing at petrol stations before they run empty.

This Brexit is turning into a huge act of self flaggelation. It is exquisite and as insulin and some chemotherapy drugs run short, it gets even better.

Just shows you how utterly fickle the Great British mind set is in its exenophobia – but the medicine shortages, they’re the best.

  • Oh and one other thing thinking of yourself Roddy and your trip to Dubai, did you see the huge jackets being built for the SeaGreen offshore wind energy project off the coast of Angus being built in Dubai.

Monstrous structures the £3bn wind project is having 30 of its jackets built in Dubai with the other 114 built in yards in China. Heh, heh heh, its a braw country that can’t build its own offshore jackets. But then again it doesn’t do ships either.

Too poor, too proud, too stupid as the old and ill die waiting for ambulances.

Who’s like us – and did you get some photos of the jackets when on your holidays to remind us all we once were ship and rig builders.

  • I’ve used those words fairly often on other sites like WOS and Iain Lawson’s. The former never liked them and now he’s closing the site down long after it had become a parody of its former self. Latterly, a circus of trolls pretending to fight over vaccines and ‘blood and soil’ bullshit deliberate distractions. Incidentally, the ‘Rev’ has revealed that he sees Scotland only as a ‘line in the sand’ ! So there goes another false prophet.

The fact is that Scots have become soft and apathetic. Mainly due to all the reasons that Alf Baird has explained in his Doun Hauden analytical work. Starved of proper education about our historical subjugation; lied to about the economic robbery of our resources; cowed into public silence by fear of job insecurity ( Alf Baird and John Robertson being noble exceptions to that of the universal silence by remaining Scottish academics in Scottish universities); and fed lying propaganda day and night by the msm. The huge influx of economically over advantaged RUK/English settlers into the most prosperous jobs and areas has sadly increased the emigration of young Scots out of our country due to their birthright being stolen. Our country’s population has grown by approx 250,000, but the number of Scots births is at a historic low. This asymetrical demographic change is not just a cultural one, but a political one. Because of IDENTITY.

The irony is that the ‘woke’ movement which denies women only as female, also by default, tries to deny Scots who are born here as the right to be ‘SCOTS’. Instead we get the mealy mouthed lie about ‘people who live in Scotland’. A bit like people with vaginas or penises not being women or men respectively. This has allowed the diversion about ‘civic ‘ nationalism. That people can chose to be Scottish residents, not Scottish identifiers, therefore allows these people whether recently arrived or not to the right to vote on our country’s sovereignty. An obscene distortion of our Sovereignty and a dangerous means to total colonisation by stealth. That right should and can only apply to citizenship. Which we haven’t been able to establish because of the traitors in the SNP who did not use the 2015 G.E. to dissolve the Union. This catastrophic decision along with the continuing white flag/black flag of Devolution has been used to beguile the Scottish population to desperately hold out for a promised land that will never be delivered by the Judas goat Sturgeon and her disgusting flock of traitors and liars. They deliberately held back the census, unlike the other ‘4 x nations’ because they know the truth of English settlement in Scotland is nearing a tipping point for another losing, pointless, unnecessary and dangerous Referendum.

More and more are beginning to realise this. But the danger is that people , and there are many, have been duped by this narcissistic manipulative sociopath. As have many in England by her counterpart the evil buffoon Johnson. Once they start to wake up and many already are, the danger is disillusionment and a turning away from political action to one of ennui and despair.

Alba appear to be emulating all the errors of the rotten Anglo Saxon neo liberal parties. Why have separate factions inside the party? It must be a movement of action with the aim of dissolving the UK and bringing about a new assembly of the common people of Scotland. Not ex politicians or trade union mouthpieces, but people with skills and knowledge. Practical people, like Alf and working people and business people with success, not fat cats, but folk who are honest brokers and with Scotland’s best interests, not their careers and pension pots.
Education of our people about the reality of de facto colonial usurpation by England is imperative. That means calling out England and its collaborators in the Gas Works at the bottom of the Royal Mile. And I mean the whole bloody lot of them. Colluding actors pretending to disagree with each other. A puppet show for the unthinking while they haggle over the accounting unit sweetie jobs.

In 1820, the Scottish Insurrection inspired by the likes of Thomas Muir of Huntershill’s ideas and sacrifice, the weavers of the Calton raised the standard ‘Scotland free or a Desert’. They failed. But the beacon of Scottish freedom was relit after a hundred years on oppression. We the resigned but stoical survivors of the Sturgeon betrayal must relight that beacon and continue the political struggle anew.

    • Lochside.

The reason the Rev is closing has site down is because he knows as do plenty of other folk that Sturgeon has no intentions of holding an indyref, and sites like WGD or as he’s better known PayPal Paul, only muddy the waters by continuing to push that Sturgeon will hold an indyref, its just around the corner nonsense.

As for Alf Baird his deliberations and writing are on the ball, and many folk realise that Scotland a country is being treated as a colony within this union because of Professor Alf Baird’s writings. If more folk had been critical of Sturgeon’s misgivings and her sheer and utter lack of any movement towards an independent Scotland for the last seven years (and God knows how many more years to come) then maybe they’d be a bit more understanding and cohesion within the indysphere on social media.

    • Well said Lochside. As Albert Memmi stated: “A day necessarily comes when the colonized lifts his head and topples the always unstable equilibrium of colonization. For the colonized just as for the colonizer, there is no way out other than a complete end to colonization.”

  • Yesterday a statement from the Petrol Retailers Association (PRA), which represents the majority of petrol stations in Britain, estimated that between 50 and 90 per cent of them had run dry.

And as Grant Shapps brings in the army he and his government are saying, unbelievably saying, that it’s because of an EU wide shortage of HGV drivers, as his government make arrangements to issue 5,000 temporary work visas to allow EU CITIZENS to return to drive lorries.

Of course the ordinary motorist who needs his car to get to work, go shopping gets the blame too for causing the shortage.

Ah what a lovely Brexit as the army get called in to man ambulances. It’s like the Winter of Content all over again…….Eat up folks we voted for this.

And in Catalonia you’ll be having empty supermarket shelves and petrol stations Roddy with the army running ambulances.
