As my good buddy Bruce Hosie says in his blog today Nicola Sturgeon has spoken more about independence in the past few days than in the previous seven years. There can be little doubt the success and sense coming from The Alba Party Conference in Greenock has pushed her into action. Whether it be in politics, sport, commerce, competition forces others to up their game. This is exactly what has happened to Sturgeon and The SNP.
The SNP, the House-Jock Parties and the corrupt UK MSM have all tried smearing and demeaning the Alba Party in the hope they could strangle it at inception—————– they failed Alba is indeed rising.
In her speech Nicola Sturgeon alluded to a Referendum in 2023, Covid permitting which is to say the least very vague and open to interpretation. At the same time she is asking Westminster to extend the Covid Powers indefinitely, meaning she could delay the referendum indefinitely!
This blog has been quite clear I do not support a referendum as a means of regaining our independence. I believe such a method is fraught with dangers and difficulties. It is especially true of the surge in non Scots born immigrants from other parts of the British Union arriving as colonialists into our nation since 2014.Anecdotal evidence suggests another 500,000 Non Scots have arrived in Scotland since the referendum. In 2014, 72% of English born ‘New Scots’ voted against Scotland and in favour of rule from England. Nothing in the intervening years suggests that this % is likely to diminish in favour of Scotland’s self-determination.
Setting all that aside let us just look at the reaction from Downing Street to the timorous approach of the SNP to Scottish independence this weekend.

Boris Johnson has dismissed out of hand Nicola Sturgeon’s appeal to agree to another Scottish independence referendum “in the spirit of co-operation.”
The Prime Minister’s official spokesman rejected the core message in the First Minister’s address to the SNP Conference even before she had finished speaking.
At a briefing for journalists in Downing Street, the PM’s spokesman said the focus of all governments should be on covid recovery and repeated the mantra that “now is simply not the time” to consider an Independence referendum.
https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/nicola-sturgeon-scottish-independence-boris-24972144
That sums up England’s attitude to its Scottish colony ‘before she had finished speaking.’ Back in your box Scotland, know your place, do as you are told. Sadly, this present Scottish Government despite six independence mandates from the past six elections seems reluctant and indeed too feart to do anything to push ahead with the wishes of the Scottish voters.
This also shows the folly of Sturgeon resisting any discussion on a Plan B in the event of Westminster intransigence. If she didn’t see this coming, then she should resign today. Piss poor planning makes for piss poor performance. The SNP has two choices acquiescence or belligerence!
I believe it is time to fight back and tell the English Government that Enough is Enough! It is time to exert the people of Scotland’s sovereignty and to stop benignly playing the obedient conquered people. Over the centuries we have slipped into the role of a colony, a Greater England outpost. We are not, we are a sovereign people and a sovereign nation. It is time to start acting in that manner!
We may have a Union of Crowns and a Union of Parliaments, however, we never signed up to be ruled over by England. The Parliament at Westminster is the Parliament of two separate nations, three if you include Wales. There is also a tiny representation from the six occupied counties of Ireland. Westminster is not by any state or Treaty the ruling nation. It is a myth we Celts just seem to have accepted over the years.
The Scottish Parliament was merely recessed not abolished in 1707.In 1999 when the Parliament reconvened Winnie Ewing made that very clear.Since that time we have not imposed our people’s sovereignty enough. If truth be known apart from 2014 we have done very little. The Referendum should have been the beginning of the Scottish resistance, not the end of it!
I propose, starting today we change all of that. We often talk of The Declaration of Arbroath and The Claim of Right, however that is all we ever do, talk about it, it is time we started to do something with these fine legal instruments. England has not been slow to use Magna Carta and Henry VIII powers when it has suited their needs. It is time for us Scots to use our ancient legal powers too.
In 1603 our good King James VI took the English crown sadly instead of remaining so he chose to be convinced by English interests to adopt James1 as his ‘British’ title. It should be noted that Elizabeth Saxe-Coburg and Gotha did not deign to call herself Elizabeth1 which she is, instead the Germans House of Hanover insulted and continues to Insult Scotland with her Elizabeth 11 nom de guerre.
What was joined in 1603 let us annul in 2021. Under the Declaration of Arbroath, it is our right as a sovereign people to remove the monarch if they do not act in Scotland’s interests. It is obvious from the time of her coronation till today Elizabeth has never worked in Scottish interests her priority and that of her brood has always been England.
David Cameron in 2014 couldn’t resist telling us that Queen Elizabeth ‘purred down the phone on hearing the news that her English subjects in Scotland had tipped the scales in favour of English rule over Scottish independence. Let us see how much she purrs when we sack her and her successors!
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/sep/23/david-cameron-queen-purred-down-line-scotland-no-vote
Let us today begin a campaign to abolish the monarchy in Scotland. Let us do that by recalling all of our Scottish MPs from the Westminster Parliament as a first step. Renounce the sovereignty of the monarch and declare the sovereignty of the Scottish people instead. Convene a Grand Assembly of all the democratically elected representatives of the Scottish people. All MSPs, MPs, Councillors of all parties must be invited to attend. Those that give their allegiance to England can do so, as other Scots have ashamedly done over the centuries, and as we have done over the centuries we can deal with them later.
This gathering must be asked if as the voices of the sovereign people of Scotland they will act on the people’s behalf. That they agree to abolish the monarchy and declare Scotland a Republic. Further that they agree to annul the Treaty of Union as it no longer serves Scotland’s interests and cite the many, many breaches of this corrupt Treaty over the centuries.
We should immediately begin negotiations with the English Government over a secession Treaty to replace this Treaty of Union. Emissaries should be sent over the globe to present the case of Scotland to the world. The offices of the UN and EU should be called in to act as honest brokers.
At the end of the negotiations chaired by these two bodies, the new Treaty should be presented to the sovereign people of Scotland to ratify. The democratically elected representatives of Scotland must decide in unison with the UN which Scots and New Scots will participate in that franchise. This should remove any controversy over who is eligible. Personally speaking I believe nobody that has lived in Scotland for less than seven years should be deemed fit to participate, no overseas students or second home owners. Nobody on a part time secondment. No members of armed services stationed in Scotland unless of Scottish parentage and or birth. No foreign money or political parties should be allowed to participate or fund this democratic enterprise. I do though I leave the final details to our elected representatives, these are merely my opinions. I am open to be persuaded on any and all the details.
The fearties and House-Jocks along with the colonised among us will immediately scream, ‘you cannae dae this!’ I ask why not? Who says we can’t? Our imperial oppressors, there’s a surprise! What will they do? Refuse to acknowledge its legitimacy? Probably. They would then have to assert that Scotland is indeed an English colony and try to prove that in the courts. It begs the question, which courts? Does anyone truly believe that the English Government would go to the Scottish Courts to strike us down? Does anyone believe that bad as it is these days the Scottish Law Fraternity would accept that Scots Law is inferior and answerable to English law? Indeed in the Treaty of Union, Scots Law, Church are protected as separate and in no way inferior or answerable to England’s laws and Church!
By suggesting we are in fact an English colony allows us to invoke the good offices of the United Nations. Can I suggest you study the UN Decolonisation Unit. You will see that if this was a route England attempted then the UN can excerpt its powers over the process. That argument only strengthens our case. It does not weaken it. It also means Westminster has no active part to play in the process or franchise.
https://www.un.org/dppa/decolonization/en
They cannot take it to their Supreme Court either for the same reasons as above. They wouldn’t dare go to the European Courts they cannot influence or bribe those august bodies.
We sovereign Scots actually have massive power we just have never deployed it, I say, that the time is now here to use everything at our disposal. The double whammy of Brexit and Covid means Scotland just cannot afford to wait around hoping that one day our English imperial masters will just let their Magic Money tree in Scotland go free.
Let all Scottish independence supporters, and parties unite as one and move our country forward. Stop the petty squabbling, the name calling and the abuse. A house divided will fall, we need unifiers, not dividers! No more should we tolerate being dismissed out of hand or purred at by a foreign monarch! It is time to act as a Sovereign Nation and people. No more asking, it is time to start telling!! Should any of our present leaders feel unable or unwilling to act in Scotland’s interests then they need to step aside and let those that are not frit or timid take over the fight.

Webcom Radio is Now Playing:
I tapped like above. I didn’t like it. I bloody loved this article. If only the msm would reprint it. If only the SNP members and elected representatives alike would read it. If only the the unionist Scots would get off their knees. If all of the previous ‘if onlys’ became real, Scotland would indeed be a free country again.
Brilliant! Let us start immediately.
Well said. It is time that Scotland acted as the sovereign nation state that it is and asserted its authority.
“The fearties and House-Jocks along with the colonised among us will immediately scream, ‘you cannae dae this!’ I ask why not? Who says we can’t?”
Nicola Sturgeon, that’s who.
She has approached Boris “in the spirit of co-operation.”. She hasn’t approached anyone else in the Yes movement in the same spirit.
Yes, Alba has got her worried – about the local elections in 8 months. All this sabre rattling and posturing she’s doing is to keep the indy vote on board until she get the votes she needs.
Is everyone really going to fall for it again?
The National, that SNP, fanzine reported on this too stating how terrible it was that Johnson’s spokesman had rejected a referendum before oor poor Nicola had even finished her set-piece speech when he said ” the Scottish people have been clear they want to see the UK Government and devolved governments working together to defeat pandemic, that’s our priority.”
At the same time, in the SAME NEWSPAPER on THE SAME DAY it was reported that John Swinney, Deputy FM, had said that when “the Covid pandemic is under control, and we can then have a referendum”
The SNP leadership, and it’s fan club and cheerleaders, can hardly blame Westminster when they themselves are providing this kind of encouragement to their supposed enemies.
It’s pathetic and obvious:
The leadership plan is to distract the membership and Yes movement by way of throwing some red meat of insult to Scotland from Johnson and Westminster whilst they get on with delaying and deferring any effort at restoring Scotland’s rightful nation-state status.
The FM of Scotland is only staying in place to deny open access to deeply buried secrets. She is terrified that a new leader will open the vault to inspection. Scotland is not her interest. Her reputation is all and she will jail, threaten, smear anyone trying to gain access to the truth or undermine her supreme power..
She is a demigod and above the scrutiny of the hoi polio/ the masses / the rabble…The People!
If we truly want Independence and it is for the Sovereign People of Scotland to decide that. It is not for Sturgeon of Boris Johnson to decide.
Holyrood and Westminster are now two cheeks of the same arse.
Hoi Poloi – spell checker arghh! Not Polio
I agree with every word of this, including the need for urgent action to preserve Scotland as a nation. I have been suggesting similar ideas, though not as eloquently, as comments on different platforms over the last few months and am beginning to feel a shift in perception is growing that recognises the sense behind them. Thanks to this blog and to people like Alf Baird, Ian Lawson and the others who are behind this.
We must keep up the momentum and the pressure, get these ideas out to the wider Scottish public, and be prepared to demonstrate (in all senses of that word) that we are no longer prepared to be ruled by the corrupt, cruel and deceitful government in Westminster.
Well I agree with all you’ve said but there is a problem. The majority of the current MPs/MSPs are SNP and there is the square root of heehaw chance of them doing as you suggested especially under the current and likely future leadership. We would need the majority of our elected reps being Alba and I don’t see that happening by 2026. But I’d love to be proven wrong about that!
When you have a “leader” that begs for cooperation from Boris Johnson I think it is fair to say such radical action as outlined atl ain’t going to happen. But that shouldn’t stop us pushing them to action!!! Maybe the SNP need to remember what Sinn Fein did to the Irish Parliamentary party even if STV doesn’t mention it.
Totally agree and as for sturgeon, she is doing her boss’ bidding. You ask me, I say no, they blame me and shut up, we move on. Only issue with your plan is of the red white blue and orange variety. They would riot everywhere. How do we deal with that because the yoons would have a field day and their media and agents would cause havoc, stir up division and hatred allowing “the authorities” to come in and reinstate “peace”. This would never be a bloodless route and we have to acknowledge and plan for that.
.
The more they riot the more we win.
Unfortunately with very few exceptions, I wouldn’t trust Nationalist politicians, whether MSPs,Mps,or councillors to run a bath
Their lack of ability to negotiate is obvious from the deal on the smelter with Gupta and I fear that these people wouldn’t even get a lucky bag out of Westminster
What makes you think these incompetents could deliver?
Emotional rhetoric doesn’t deliver results
Well Willie as my emotional rhetoric doesn’t deliver results we shall await with bated breath your suggestion to our dilema.
Ghandi did nae bad!
Another thing I think we’d need to do is block all broadcasting from south of the border especially BBC if that’s possible
If the United Nations take over the process that is guaranteed.
Emotional rhetoric or not, it’s the type of language that has to become the linguistic hallmark of our struggle if we are seriously committed to regaining that which is rightfully ours. You either want your country back or you don’t!
Nobody is likely to be convinced of our demands and intentions through the use of anodyne acquiescent rhetoric of the kind penned by SNP speech-writers. Dishonest verbal half-way-housery has never been a defining feature of any successful movement in any struggle for justice, anywhere.
As for “scaring-the-horses”, I would say: never underestimate the spirit of the “horses”.
There are arguments on both sides for allowing or not allowing new Scots to vote.
I am still undecided, not because of the arithmetic, which is obvious, but by the change in ‘franchise’. Having a Scots only vote is not a problem for me (many of the most progressive countries do it) only how this change will be perceived.
But if we are to allow non Scots to vote, 7 years is not long enough. Not by far.
My partner was talking to a new Scot just before May. She has been here for well over 20 years, voted No in 2014 and only now realised we need Independence. She thinks Alba is the greatest threat to that.
I use this example (but my god it made me mad) to illustrate how long it takes for people to wake up.
This women presumably woke up because it is clear to any one with a few brain cells that Westminster rule is throttling us. Even that took 20+ years. She still hasn’t realised the MS media is lying to us every single day so is still only half awake. It takes time for the English to see through the English propaganda. This is an intelligent feminist, who was a Greenham Common woman. I can only assume she only read MSM. If you don’t read social media, you haven’t a clue what is going on.
Hopefully Alba will change that a little but the MSM will still try to silence us.
Top article, Roddy! THIS! I was just discussing this with OH last night. Nobody in Scotland elected WM to rule over us. That wasn’t in the ToU. Why have we sat back and allowed this to be the way of things? Nah nah… we’re an EQUAL PARTNER & this partner is saying ‘The ToU is over. Time to move on.’
People say it isn’t that easy. Yes it is. All our govt has to say is ‘We’re not accepting your parliament as sovereign. The Scots are going to decide what we do about brexit’. All they have to do is leave WM. There are trains, planes & these things called cars! They. just. have. to. LEAVE. If our govt believes in helping the poor, feeding starving children and saving lives of Refugees, if our elected govt truly believe in governing FOR THE PEOPLE, they will do this FOR THE PEOPLE. If they don’t, we will see exactly who they REALLY care about.
There is no point in saying ‘We’ll sort all that AFTER COVID’. Show me the piece of legislation that says death by COVID and stopping that, is more important than children’s death by starvation & doing something to STOP THAT. Tell me why COVID death is more important than pensioners dying of hypothermia b/c their pensions are so poor they can’t afford to heat AND eat! Why are terminally ill DYING in penury because Welfare won’t give them money to live on while they die?? Scotgov need to make clear which death they deem more important… Given the choice, as a Scot, I say I don’t want my poorer fellow Scots to die. I’ll risk COVID to see fellow Scots get all the benefits that an Independent Scotland would give them. Scotgov must simply TURN THEIR BACKS on WM & declare ‘We’re not listening to you any longer’. C’est ca!
Well said, Roddy! I’m 100% behind you on this!
Excellent article, I said this the other day on another blog, but it would appear better reflected in here.
Sturgeon is making a lot of noise on holding an indyref in late 2023, but she’s on record saying that an indyref might not be held till 2024 or beyond.
We know from past experience with Alex Salmond’s fit up, and the unjust imprisoning of Craig Murray that Sturgeon cannot be trusted. I think it would be reasonable to assume that Sturgeon will stretch out Covid for as long as humanly possible, post-Autumn 2023 takes us into 2024, and that year is a GE year so 2024 is out of the question for an indyref.
We are being played as usual by Sturgeon.
If Sturgeon can hold out until late 2022 early 2023, then she’s clear of holding an indyref until 2025 or beyond
“A second referendum on Scottish independence may have to be delayed until 2024 or beyond if the coronavirus pandemic makes holding one earlier impossible, Nicola Sturgeon has said.”
https://inews.co.uk/news/scotland/scottish-independence-nicola-sturgeon-says-covid-may-delay-indyref2-until-2024-947875
I hear and read about all the things that we want to do .But who is going to have the courage to step forward and proclaim I am going to lead us to Independence no ifs no buts .I await the rush of applicants with much anticipation.Saor Alba

Did Keith Brown ever respond?
Let’s make sure the inaction of Brown and the vindictiveness of Sturgeon is kept in the public eye.
Absolutely!
Surprise is the best form of attack.
Let’s surprise them, time to get real!

I fully agree with these words: “It is time for us Scots to use our ancient legal powers too”… and post the following:

Elizabeth, by name: her status’s inaccurately posted;
She’s no friend of Scotland’s population – or anyone?
Today’s world is evolving… old times are lambasted:

Great article Roddy, every day I tell myself I’m not going onto that B facebook again, the utter nonsense these Sturgeonites spout out is beyond belief. They have absolutely no concept of what this twisted woman is doing to Scotland. I have no idea how we are supposed to convince these so called independence supporters, they are the enemy of the YES movement, they are the ones keeping this traitor in power, therefore she will never have to go for it. She will keep saying the same manta keep giving out carrots till it’s time for her golden handshake, the big fat pension and any other…… I’ve deleted it in case I get arrested. Keep the positive blogs coming Roddy. we Shall Be Free. Sar Alba.
Couldn’t agree more with you Roddy, just waiting for call to action!
