The Through A Scottish Prism panel gather to review the political news of the week. As politics winds down for the festive season the panel assess the weeks events and not a lot of Christmas cheer was in evidence.
The opening topic was Lord David Cameron’s edict that he was thinking of closing down the Scottish Trade Missions in UK embassies throughout Europe. As the Treasury charge the Scottish Government huge rents for these broom cupboards we think it’s an idle threat. Our colonial masters tugging the Jock chain to remind them just who is in charge. The panel does what our SNP Government failed to do, we tell Dodgy Dave to do one!
We discuss the idiotic vengeful decision by the SNP to run a candidate against Angus Brendan MacNeil in Na h-Eileanan an Iar constituency. As we saw in the Holyrood election of 2021 and the Local Authority Elections 2022 the SNP would rather gift seats to the Unionists than come to any kind of accommodation with any other like minded independence supporter or party.
The panel also gives its views on Ian Murray MP, and his very Tory outburst to defend millionaires from paying their fair share of tax. It might say Labour on the tin however, inside it is every inch the Tory boy!
The FCDO in East Kilbride is to move to a new hub in Glasgow. Great news for the dear green place but bad news for East Kilbride. It was noted that Tory MSPs at Holyrood were laughing as this body blow to one of their own held seats was being announced.
In other Union news it was announced this week that the Energy Companies will be allowed to raise the level of the price cap. This is being done because the high cost of energy has resulted in lots of non payments. The companies want the paying customer to repay these profits. Otherwise, the shareholders might have to accept a reduced dividend this year! (Viewers discretion warning!) The panel responses are not for the faint hearted!
Latest polling in Wales shows that independence now sits at 37%. Is Wales on the march?

Article 1 of the Treaty of Union: ” … that the two Kingdoms of Scotland and England would on 1 May 1707 … and … for ever after … be united into one Kingdom.”
Article 1 of a another Treaty reads: “the kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland would on 1 January 1801 … “and … for ever after … be united into one kingdom.”
Two international Treaties stating that their terms were to last … for ever after. One of those two countries made a declaration “… the right of the people of Ireland to the ownership of Ireland and to the unfettered control of Irish destinies, to be sovereign and indefeasible”. and regained it’s independence.
Today in Scotland is a document, it too is a Declaration, it is called the “Declaration of a Sovereign Scot” which reads:
Exercising my Claim Of Right as a Sovereign Scot, I declare:
I do not consent to the terms of, nor the continuation of, the Treaty of Union established through the Acts of Union in 1707.
It has already been signed by Sovereign Scots from across the length and breadth of Scotland, with all signed Declarations lodged with the United Nations. Initial contact has also been established with 17 UN Member States – of which one is Ireland.
A copy of each signed Dclaration has been retained so that future generations have a record of those who signed.

Notes:
Scotland will regain its independence when it can be demonstrated that Sovereign Scots are in the majority in deciding that they no longer consent to the continuation of the Treaty of Union.
That is the purpose of the Declaration initiative – to establish that majority. Will it succeed – it depends on my fellow Scots. On each individual Scot who signs. (On you?)
The initiative is being created in a series of Stages, with the next important Stage to be announced early in 2024, one which will (I hope) allow far more Scots to participate. In an earlier post, I said how I would be active in 2024 – I will repeat how and where in a post early in 2024.
As long as I am able, I will continue to buy the paper, the printer ink, and cover the costs of the postage involved – I will attend all the rallies whenever and wherever they are held (and next year – more). I’ll even remember to bring pens.
Any time we step out of line, we are going to be punished. It is as simple as that. No point in whingeing about what should have been obvious to the SNP in 2015/16. That was the time to declare that we were going – on a surfeit of seats and the threat of Brexit. They just did not have the guts, and we are where we are, so every fight we do pick has to be thoroughly researched, thoroughly legally researched and carried out with at least a nod to due diligence.
I pray that Angus Brendan wins, but I am not 100% optimistic. What he should have done, really, was call a meeting of his supporters and tell them he was going over to ALBA and would they still vote for him? If he won under the ALBA flag, it would have given that party a huge boost, too, as well as making it clear to Unionists that we are not going anywhere. As an independent, I’m not sure he can do it, but, if he does, I’ll be the first to congratulate him. I hope against hope that he can do it.
As for the rest, Roddy/folks, too disillusioned to even think about it all anymore. Just sickened. The SNP is now, officially, anti Scottish, anti independence, anti women, anti everything that would take us anywhere, and too many people have a stake in it remaining in the lane going nowhere, and I’m not just speaking about Unionists. Too many SNP loyalists are wilfully blind to what is happening in Scotland. It is all going to end badly because our backs are now to the wall. No wriggle room whatsoever – or, at least, there is, but no one wants to use it.
As a woman, I feel doubly kicked in the teeth. It feels as if there is nothing for me or women like me to look forward to either in independence or out of it because the horrible ‘trans’ lobby keeps saying that it will continue to breach our boundaries and push for access to our spaces, jobs, sports, etc., even if independence comes. Jam tomorrow no longer works. I have been appalled and disgusted by the men in the independence movement who would see our women and children harmed by deviant men because they believe that the SNP will bring in independence if only women would cease their opposition to GRR and give them their vote. The betrayal has been so massive on both counts: independence and women’s rights. Had enough. I campaigned with men in my local branch and never believed that so many men in the independence movement would do this to us.
Only with the removal of the SNP the source of our betrayal can we start a new campaign but it will be very difficult although we have hope with the @AlbaParty which will take many years but is the most direct route to ending Colonial occupation and restoring pride is by UDI which many countries have used succesfully so why can’t we? We are oil-rich and energy-rich yet our streets look like something from the 3rd World and it is going to get an awful lot worse. RIP SNP you have failed the people of Scotland deliberately!
The SNP are indeed hell bent to stymie Scottish Independence.
They have squandered mandate after mandate.
At the last Hollyrood election the SNP promoted the SNP 1 and SNP 2 vote. In doing this they ended up with a minority number of SNP MSPs whereas with SNP 1 and Alba 2 there could have been nearly one hundred independence MSPs with around 25 unionist Tory and Labour MSP’s swept out of the parliament.
And now the SNP put up a candidate against the popular and sitting MP Angus Brendan MacNeil thereby trying to split the independence vote.
This is not the action of a party committed to independence. The squandering of previous mandates is not the actions of a party of independence. The promotion of policies utterly rejected and unpopular with the electorate is not the actions of a party of independence.
These are the actions of a party that is now opposed to independence and in the forthcoming UK general election I believe that people of the Western Isles will recognise that and vote to re-elect Angus Brendan MacNeil as their independent independence MP..
The problem with moving forward politically from where we are currently is we have supposedly 3 independence parties. The SNP are not doing anything for us and in my view never will, they have becoming part of the problem , Alba though having a promising start has failed break out into the main stream as yet , Salmond having been successful smeared by the British state propoganda machine . Some in the SNP resent Alba with spite and mallace and vice versa. Alba dont help by support the open rigged voting franchise and not supporting Salvo and Liberation Scotland or embrace the ISP. Which some see as another infultration of another political party , playing the British game . Then there is the ISP who have are the only party willing to shun the Westminster circus and finish the Union from the start. Which is what we need but we need this to encompass all in a national party of liberation to including everyone then we will get somewhere. As soon as you send MPs to Westminster they get corupted by the British state seduced by the wage the extravagant expenses and the lobbying money from big business which is used to bribe our politicians.
There would only be one goal end the Union offering the British state no inroads though stupid policies or gender politics to divide and rule . Then after a successful yes vote after a period of coalition we can return th normal party politics.
