  • I am dubious about the SNP wanting to give refugees a vote. Why should people who have just arrived in this country, who know nothing about or its mindset or culture or politics, get to help steer its future direction? They may well not even stay here, with Scotland just being a brief stopgap for them before moving on. This just seems like a cynical vote grabber for the SNP, thinking that refugees would be so grateful to them for allowing them the vote they would vote for the SNP.

As for all this ludicrous, insulting-to-indigenous-Scots ‘New Scot’ stuff being touted by the SNP, basically saying that anybody who arrives here is instantly Scottish…well, that’s utter shite, of course. Many of these people will have very different societal ideas than the SNP, and it’s oddly racist to think that they won’t.

  • What a cracking prism Roddy and Alf , it emphasises how vitally important a plebiscite election has to be the method that is used to gain our freedom , the plebiscite election followed later ( a year ??? ) by a ratifying referendum negates the divisive and argumentative franchise discussion , it also energises the need for the unionists to supply positive arguments to support their views ( which is impossible ) , they cannot just continue to say NO

If ALBA declare their manifesto as plebiscite elections with indy as outcome if power is won there then can be NO ambiguity to the result , voters then know what the party stands for and have voted accordingly so have no excuse’s , unionists can propose the union if they win but what they can’t do is refuse to take part in an election a boycott would only increase the vote for indy

  • Alf Baird is the single most important voice in the struggle for Independence. He should be a consultant for Alba every step of the way.

  • Thanks for the interview – That was really excellent – Lots of vital info explained there – Thanks to both – very much appreciated, Ludo

  • Today’s Scottish Prism (19th September), was nothing less than a superb example of what a political-education production (for Alba’s activists and leadership) could and should look like. This edition really doesn’t deserve to be just archived and forgotten about. Training session and workshop gold imo!

  • Those 2 podcasts with Prof Alf Baird are by far the best I’ve listened to over the last few years. Thanks for bringing them to us.
