The reason that the SNP appears never to do due diligence or impact assessments or listen to legal advice is because they think they are immune. This is pure Stonewall and the ‘trans’ lobby. Tell any nonsense you like and people will fall in with it because… “stunning and brave… “. Stonewall chose the Scottish government and Scotland for a reason: because their psychopathic vanguard knew perfectly well that the virtue-signalling, sanctimonious SNP would fall, and they knew that because Nicola Sturgeon was already within the ranks of the ‘wokerati’.
When she talked of “progressive politics”, she was not talking about independence or even really progressive social policies; she was talking about ‘trans’. Everything that the SNP has done since 2014 has been at the behest of the “stunning and brave… “. Well, I would say that, wouldn’t I, being a woman? No. From early 2015, I, and many others, began to suspect that something was not quite right, that Nicola Sturgeon stopped speaking about independence. The nightmare for Scotland that unfolded in 2016, and every other sparkling opportunity was ignored and sidelined. The GRRB was being worked on basically from day one, and it was still a pile of ordure.
Many women in Scotland will never, ever forgive that betrayal, and to try and pretend that it is a progressive policy that would be a mere administrative tweak was a lie so diabolical as to be traumatising. The whole point of it was to open the doors to ‘trans’ ‘women’; the children and young girls and boys were chosen as the smokescreen for middle-aged autogynephiles, driven by sexual paraphilias. They knew what self-ID would do to all females in Scotland, and, by extension, all females in the UK; they knew that innocent children would be fast-tracked into ‘transition’ because they would ensure that via the schools’ sex education programmes.
Flat Earthers never doubt their own illogical belief; paraphiliac men will do anything to satisfy their fetish and drive it on; and troughing devolutionists clothed in independista garb will never admit the truth of their dubiety to themselves, if they are even capable of such self-reflection.
This goes way beyond incompetence or ineptitude; it goes way beyond a lack of courage on independence; it goes way beyond common decency to attack the rules and regulations and legal definitions that hold the fabric of our society together. They handed the reins of power to ideologically mad Greens and the ‘trans’ lobby precisely in order to allow cultural Marxism and Queer Theory to take root. I’m done with all the rubbish about not knowing what would happen. No, they knew. They knew that women would be utterly marginalised, as is happening in Ireland, and, now, Ireland’s women are standing up to be counted against this diabolical ideology. I’m done with the “stunning and brave… “, I’m done with the “just be kind… “. NO. NO. NO.
If Humza is elected, if he forges ahead with the challenge to S35, he and the SNP are finished. All those men in the membership who were quite happy to see women and children sacrificed on a fool’s errand had better get their thick, selfish heads round this fact: without the women’s vote, independence will never be achieved. Now, digest that and weep for the truth that it is. What will come next, in those circumstances, will be either a descent, or, alternatively, an ascent, into one of two very different kinds of politics. So be it.
I agree with everything you say Lorna. But the overall context for me is that of displacement activity. The NuSNP under Sturgeon has done pretty much anything to avoid dealing with the main purpose of the party – Independence in case we need reminding. Independence is either too difficult for them to deal with OR for any number of reasons they are motivated to relegate it to 2nd or 22nd place on their agenda.
I’m reminded of a set of direct conversations I had with Blackford, Russell & Swinney back in 2019, just prior to the UK general election. I talked face to face with Blackford & Russell about the opportunity that the SNP had to stymie Boris’s Brexit plans by holding the then PM over a barrel on independence and refusing to comply with his plans to hold a GE – which I predicted he would win overwhelmingly – political pundit ? Moi ? These idiots at the head of my party refused to recognise that we had the blond convict where we wanted him and permitted a GE where the tories leapt to a majority of 80+ and denied us an independence deal – they couldn’t recognise an opportunity for independence if they fell over it in the street – or more likely they did not want to !
On Swinney’s part, at around the same time, I pointed out to “honest John” (why have you resigned John ? – you have my email address) that the party had been the victim of classic entryism – which he acknowledged with faux disgust, and proceeded to collude with the entryists from then till now. Explain yourself HONEST John – I don’t think you can.
Actually the SNP threatened to vote with the Tories to bring a GE. The SNP argued for the 9th dec and the Tories wanted the 12th. Corbyn wanted a March 30th GE to avoid a No Deal Brexit. With the SNP backing Bozo this after lots of taunting made Corbyn agree to a GE and during the vote the SNP abstained. This absolutely scuppered the peoples vote on Brexit which was gathering pace. Sturgeon knew as everyone knew that the Tories were way out in front of the polls. Sturgeon needed the Tories in power and wanted a No Deal Brexit to further the Indy cause. Worked out well for her, not!
I think, Geoff, that independence never was on the agenda, so no displacement. From early 2015, the GRRB was on the agenda, and it could not pass if independence got there first, but independence could not get there first because it was not on the agenda. It was not that they didn’t see or take the golden opportunities, but that they did not want to take them.
I don’t believe it was particularly about being ‘feart’, but not being in the fight at all, through lack of will. The strategy was to govern progressively, but what Sturgeon simply could not grasp is that all the countries she tried to model Scotland on were independent ones, so it was always on the books that Westminster would step in if she pushed her luck – which she did with the GRRB.
No way was Westminster going to allow the Scottish government to set the agenda. No way did Westminster use the ‘trans’ issue to destabilise the SNP; the ‘trans’ issue is equally toxic to England and was wholly conceived from within the SNP, with help from Stonewall and its arms. After the 2014 defeat, I think Sturgeon was in no mood to further independence and opted instead for devolution. Personally, I never felt she was a real independista.
Also, she is more to the right than many before her, and she sees working with Westminster and with the White House important for Scotland. An independent Scotland under Sturgeon would have retained the nuclear weapons, stayed with NATO and followed American foreign policy to the letter. She saw herself as the antidote to Salmond and it was never, ever about dodging independence; it was about hollowing out the SNP as the party of independence and turning it into something very different. She needed time to do that, and the loyalists helped her every inch of the way, happily betraying the women in the party who had supported the party through thick and thin.
It angers me so much when people say the GRRB was a distraction. Not for females: for us it was as existential as independence was for so many of the loyalist men. The difference was that we could see the betrayal on both counts. Most of the loyalist men (and women) could not see theirs, and I have little sympathy for them, having tried to warn over and over, in posts, that the SNP under Sturgeon had no intention of ever introducing independence. It simply was not on the horizon. It was a terrible betrayal of women in the party and will not be forgotten, although, perhaps, forgiven eventually, if we all live long enough and/or we regain our independence.
yet, another excellent broadcast by Roddy, we need to find a way to get this on mainstream media. Robin spot on with his dissection of the facts.
Thank you John.
This was a masterpiece of interviewing by Roddy – speak for approx 5% of the time , and let your knowledgeable guest speak for 95% of the time. Best Prism of recent weeks,
Thank you Geoff, your kind praise is greatly appreciated.
always a pleasure to hear what Robin McAlpine has to say as he dissects Scottish politics.
Thanks Roddy for giving us this opportunity. Much appreciated
I think Robin is wasted in the SNP unless there is some sort of meaningful change , however a change of captain might be good . We then might have a new rudder steering us clear of the rocks of GRA and ferry incompetence. We might even have an independence party that actively seeks independence and starts campaigning. Pigs will fly. Dud Queen covid is handing her crown to dud King Humza. The Unionists game of play the natives along will go on.
Robin is not a member of any political party.
It seems that the commentators are suggesting that Kate Forbes, should the criminals not get their way, is going to be the next SNP leader and First Minister. I fear this is just another blind alley for the independence movement. She may be good for Scotland within the UK but there it ends. I started watching a Chris Deerin (Reform Scotland) interview with Kate Forbes and her priority was poverty and the economy. She went on to suggest that the £50 billion Scottish budget made it difficult to address all Scotlands needs (I paraphrase). It was at this point that I shouted at the TV “Independence and control of our vast resources and economy will solve our problems!” Her priorities, within the UK state will never solve Scotlands ills. The word independence was not uttered by this point in the interview. She is another “Tomb Tabard” and not what Scotland needs in the way of a leader. Same old, same old. If this is what we get from the SNP membership we will have plenty of poverty and social ills to keep her busy. I despair for our nation in the hands of those so blind. “Prosperity to Scotland and NO union!”
