Yesterday some sad news reached us football nuts regarding Queen’s Park FC the last true Corinthians of world soccer. Queen’s Park is the oldest senior club in Scotland, having been founded in 1867. Not only are they the oldest club in Scotland they were until yesterday the only amateur team still playing top flight football certainly in Scotland, and possibly in the world. They were one of the eight founder members of the SFA. Yesterday the news came to us that ‘The Spiders’ are to join the professional ranks of football. They are a unique club and their history is probably one of the most interesting in world football. Some of us lovers of the sport feel a twinge of sadness that The Queens are about to lose their purity and uniqueness. They are the only Scottish club to have ever played in two English FA Cup finals 1884,1885, alas losing both. They have won 10 Scottish titles and Cups  are the third top winners of the Scottish Cup, sadly their last victory in that competition was in 1893. That is probably the most embarrassing statistics for the clubs outwith the Old Firm in Scotland. Queens are 3rd in both titles and cup wins behind the two Glasgow giants. Yesterday after 152 years of existence a true Scottish institution took the decision to end their status as amateurs and for many of us their is more than a tinge of regret in that!

Another event happened recently to announce the end of another institution in Scotland, the British Union of 1707. On 14th November the UK Parliament in London announced the last ever UK General Election. The arrogant majority there didn’t of course realise at that moment that was going to be the outcome.This sham of a Parliament will not be as sadly missed or cause a tinge of sadness to this writer or to millions of others throughout the British Isles and beyond. Unlike the Queen’s Park FC, the history of this union and parliament holds no pleasant nostalgia or memories for Scots. The Parliament in London is an alien and unwelcoming place to Scotland. Westminster is very much like English Football and their English Premier League. Our southern neighbours are self-obsessed and only interested in their league and football. While the rest of the UK has to watch and hear about English sport and politics, scant regard is ever given to the sport and politics of the three Celtic nations. Throughout this union we all pay virtually the same taxes with a few minor differences to this in Scotland. We certainly all pay the same BBC Licence Fee. Unfortunately, we do not get the same level of service or information in news, politics or footy. The investment, coverage and attention by BBC is all on England’s views only and it is relayed as ‘National’ to the rest of us.

English Nationalism and arrogance have brought about the demise of the British Union. The Scots, Irish and Welsh are the result and defence against rabid English Nationalism. When we watch or listen to our national broadcaster or look in on our supposed national parliament everything is about only one part of the union to the exclusion of the three Celtic nations in the UK.

The Brexit obsession is the final straw. It is an English phenomenon bringing out the worst traits in our southern neighbour and their House-Jocks, Taffies and Paddies back in the colonies.

From 23/06/2016 right up until the dissolution of parliament, the SNP Scottish Government has sought Brexit compromise and offered solutions  that would meet the wishes of Scottish voters without compromising the English desire to leave the EU. Just like coverage of our sport, politics and parliament those opinions are of no interest to English politicians or public. All and any suggestions and pleas were ignored and brushed away with disdain.

The Westminster parliament is de facto The English Parliament. The implementation of EVEL made this a reality.That was the moment when the final death of the union was decided. Historians will look back upon 19/09/2014 and say this was the beginning of the end for the British Union. When PM David Cameron stood outside in Downing Street and smugly announced EVEL he thought it was a supreme victory for Anglo supremacy in the UK. His arrogance and pomposity blinded him to reality.

The National Emblem of Scotland is the Thistle, so deemed by Alexander III after the great Scottish victory at The Battle of Largs in 1263. Legend has it that an Army of King Haakon of Norway, intent on conquering the Scots landed at Largs at night to surprise the sleeping Scots,unfortunately for the Vikings they walked through a clump of Thistles which alerted the Scots army that then heavily defeated the Norsemen.

What Cameron, May and now Johnson have never realised is this, The Thistle is a bonny plant when viewed from a distance, it gladdens the eye. Should you be stupid enough though to try and grasp and crush that flower you will get a nasty surprise and sting. Don’t let its beauty fool you it has effective defences against attack. Our people are the same. We look and sound nice enough and from a distance we can look pleasant and docile. However, like the national emblem, if you try to grasp and crush us we have a nasty sting in us to make you regret such arrogance and stupidity. For far too many years, the Westminster parliament and media have viewed Scotland and Scots as their possession and playground. They have raped our resources and treated us with disdain.

Till 2007 London had bluebells running Scotland, I prefer to call them House-Jocks! That all changed in 2007. We now have Thistles and Westminster has made the mistake of trying to grasp and crush us.

Our coat of arms has these famous words, nemo me impune lacessit,  ‘Wha duar meddle wi me’  in simple English, ‘No one can harm me unpunished.’

I have always said you cannot look forward without looking back. The clues were there for the Unionists, our history, our national emblem, our coat of arms. The ruling elite has missed them all because they are so self-obsessed and arrogant they did not see what was glaringly obvious.

On December 12th. the last ever UK General Election will be held. I fully anticipate a huge SNP victory. This victory will be decisive, and our route to freedom will then be guaranteed.
