Listened with interest and could not agree more the current leadership of the SNP is disappointing and so corrupt from finance to numbers. I have no doubts about the delivery of AS testimony and NS evidence was so hollowed out and await more detail from the Hamilton Investigation. Unless something changes like Alex returning it is my belief that many voters will simply stay at home and May is likely to be a disaster. I am a current member of the SNP
I have been a member for nearly 50 years, was a councillor for nearly 25 years, and Westminster candidate twice. I campaigned with Iain Lawson and have enormous respect for him, I completely disagree with his analysis of yesterday.
Just go back to the start of it all.

I agree NS performance before the committee was entirely unconvincing. Whether or not there may have been good reasons for her recusing herself from the SG Investigation and subsequent JR while they were in progress, given the catastrophic failures they led to there is no excuse for her as FM not to have made sure she had every detail about what happened at her fingertips when she came before the committee.
I agree also it’s just not credible she doesn’t know the names of all the complainants. In particular, given the SG obsession with jigsaw identification, it would be downright negligent of her not to confirm their identities before giving her evidence to exclude any possibility of revealing their names during her testimony?
Indeed given the initially ‘absurd’ interpretation of L.Dorrians s.11 order they applied to the committee’s proceedings, I can’t see how the LA/SG could have implemented their original anonymity policy without handing every witness a list of ‘Names That Can’t Be Mentioned’?
Should the “Hate Crime Bill” pass and become law would Alex Salmond not be able use to it to bring these “Haters” to account? Hoisted by their own petard!”
I agree that a big number of YES supporters will not want the SNP (as they are today) however what option is there?
If they do not vote SNP they may vote Green for the Constituency but in the Regional vote is it not best to vote for AFI/ISP?

Thoroughly enjoyed this chat.Probably because I now do not feel alone in my views. I am at the moment still a !e!bet and have been for almost 30 years.If I had not been in a job that precluded membership of a political party you could double that. Have been membership secretary, convener and up to last week organiser of my branch but my conscience would not allow me to continue. As I believe democracy has left the party. I will be 78 in a few months and you have no idea how sad I feel about the direction the party has been taken by someone who I fervently supported. What has happened to Nicola? The N icola who filled the. SECC.What a let down.
Brilliant and you guys are expressing everything am sure we are all thinking. Why has NS developed such memory lapses, perhaps such a memory requires investigation from a medical professional. Such a problem should not be leading Scotland. AS expressed himself with decorum, truth and quality statemanship, he is the man to lead scotland into an honest election!
Hi Guys -liked the podcast and hard to disagree with what you were saying -but wish you wouldn’t put Salmond on a pedestal – he is no saint and I’ve worked in a male dominated industry all my life and I know the men I would allow to kiss me on the cheek and which ones I wouldn’t ;). I probably never paid much attention to politics but voted Independence and SNP, I have tried to educate myself more in the last year and hate the way the SNP are going with Gender Politics and Hate Crime Bill but I am in a quandary about what to do with my vote now.
Will keep reading your blogs and others with alternate views.
Lynne, respectfully, how do you know that AS is not a saint?
I’m not saying that I think he is (nobody is in my opinion, especially those who are actually sanctified) but unless you have personal knowledge of his actions then all you can go are the stories that others tell & how trustworthy have they been shown to be? The facts are that some people have been telling lies wide & far about AS & his behaviour. That makes me very, very sceptical about every story I read or hear about him in this context.
I want to be very clear, I thought it was entirely possible – even probable – that AS was a sleezebag when the story first came out. Powerful men are not renowned for being ‘saintly’ & my own two encounters with AS didn’t make me think that he was likely to be innocent of all wrong-doing. But as the details emerged…
You quite rightly say that you have your own limits as to which male colleagues you will let kiss your cheek. Have you considered that maybe AS was one of those men that the women whom he worked closely with were quite comfortable about letting kiss their cheeks/tug their hair/etc.? Just because the media is telling a very different story now doesn’t make it true that he was a sex pest in any way at all or that he was viewed as such by those women at the time.
Hugh, your right I don’t know him personally, I do know civil servants of both sexes who have worked with him. So I use my judgement on what I hear, read and see in body language. When I said no saint I did not mean he was a sex pest I meant he sometimes comes across in my opinion as sleazy. I just felt the guys were talking as if Alex was perfect, – just my interpretation of the podcast. However, I agree it should never have been a criminal case and in fact when it went to court I defended him to my friends and said I did not think he was guilty of what he was accused of and if he had worked for a Corporate it would have been dealt with through a normal HR procedure and the findings either dismissed or acted upon.

Some of them added their spurious accusations to the criminal trial so that when it came to the Inquiry all manner of documents could be claimed to be not available or passages redacted due to legal problems. It was that cynical and planned.
What can I say to the innocents that felt AS let them down (he admitted inappropriate behaviour/ or not a saint) but think NS has done so well as FM, they think she should stay in post. I find it hard to give up on people I actually like lol.

I was interested in the part where you talked about “inappropriate” behavior, and the “kiss on the cheek”. I’m currently working outwith Scotland and here EVERYONE kisses everyone else. It’s normal. What is it about Brits that are so obsessed with any form of casual interaction. I had thought the British issue with sex should be over by now. There was only ONE serious charge against Alex and that was the attempted rape. But Ms H was not even IN But house on the evening it was supposed to have happened.
