Reform Surges as UK Politics Starts to Fracture

This week saw the latest polling for Holyrood, and it did not make great reading for the independence movement.Yes, the SNP are still the dominant party and on course to win the election; however, it will not gain a majority, and thereby their present policy will fall at the first hurdle. John Swinney has made it quite clear he needs a majority of seats and votes to give him a mandate to beg for a Section 30 Referendum. The reality is, of course, that even if his criteria were met, the English Prime Minister, Starmer, would reject his plea out of hand.

The polling shows: YouGov/Herald

This shows the SNP, on 34% in the Constituency Vote and 29% on the list. This means that the SNP although down 14 points since 2021, it is still in line to win a majority of the constituency seats, though not enough for an outright majority. Indeed, like 2021, the SNP List votes will produce maybe one or two seats, but more likely the votes will count for naught and allow the second and third placed parties to win the lion’s share of list seats.

Reform, who are now the opposition party with 20%, are unlikely to win any FPTP seats, unless the unionists in our midst vote tactically as they have done since 1999. However, both Reform and Labour will hoover up the List seats unless we, the independence-voting majority, vote tactically, something we have never done since 1999.

It is imperative that independence voters heed the warning signs, or we will end up back in the same position as 2021 when SNP 1-2 elected Unionist carpetbaggers on the list, not independence MSPs. Remember this: the Greens have openly admitted that Independence is not a red line for them! They are just as likely to enter into a coalition with Reform and Labour as they are with the SNP. Just look over the past five years and see how much campaigning the Greens have done on Independence. *Spoiler* none is the answer. Funnily enough, it is only once every five years that the Greens suddenly find their independence credentials. Come Friday, 8th May, the Greens will once again stop talking about independence and get back to men in women’s dresses, lentil munching and tree hugging.

Not since 1955 have we Scots given the Tories an election victory of any kind. 70 years of rejecting the right-wing policies of Conservatism. Do not be fooled by man of the people and French passport holder Nigel Farage, if it walks and talks like a Tory, it is a Tory. It can self-identify as a Reform; however it is a Tory and an extreme right-wing version too!.

Since July 2024, 28 sitting or former Tories have joined the Reform Party. Carpetbaggers that see how the political wind in England is blowing, and they are following the next grift. Just look at the list of chancers and lobbydossers.

Do you think that this lot of extreme English Nationalists give one flying hoot about Scotland and the Scottish people? Indeed, in 2028-29, if the polls are to be believed, Farage will be the next PM of England. He is on record as saying he wants an insurance-based health service in the country, goodbye NHS. He and his cohorts have publicly announced that they intend to close Holyrood and Senedd and bring back direct rule. Farage has told us how he intends to slash the Scottish budget, pocket money, and lower taxes for the richest. Gaelic and Welsh language will be forbidden on road signs or discourse in Scotland and Wales. These are not just your ordinary vile Tories; these are the extreme little Englander variety. Farage is nothing more than a pound-shop Trump.

Just look across the pond and watch what is happening there; that is what awaits these islands if that lot get a foothold. That is why it is more important than ever that we, the independence block, come together in unity to face the real enemy of democracy and stability: English Nationalism!

To illustrate the Tory core of this party, this week’s Bearsden By-election gives us a clear indication of the fact. Reform, standing in the seat for the first time, took 17% of the votes, and the Tories lost 15%. It doesn’t take a genius to work out where that 15% went. Indeed, look at any recent elections in Scotland, and you will see a similar pattern. What you will also see in ‘non-Tory type seats’ is not just the Tory votes, but also Labour and Liberal votes switching, anything to defeat the hated Nats! We need to fight fire with fire!

This topic and other related matters took centre stage with the TASP panel of Eva Comrie, Allan Petrie and Phil Boswell.

Other topics discussed included all the unionist parties campaigning on “SNP Bad”, “Independence Bad!” Swinney signing a deal with the City of London spivs and begging London for English warships to protect Scottish waters. In the same week as England ignored the Court of Session ruling that the Captain and First Mate of the pirated Marinera sitting in the Moray Firth should remain in Scotland under the Scottish courts’ jurisdiction, London collaborated with Washington to ignore Scots law and kidnapped the two individuals. Yet, Swinney thinks he can parley with London!

  • Good article, i will point out though that Scotland doesn’t need a majority. The TWO times since the treaty union that Scots exercised their sovereign authority were when Scotland had minorities. – 1979 and 2011 with 11 and 6 seats respectively.
Scots sovereignty is enshrined in Scots constitutional law, recognised by both states (Scots and English) and internationally. The question of Scots sovereignty is not in doubt. The problem is that Scots are investing their sovereignty into representatives who self impose a hierarchical system where none exists and places Scotland at the bottom, as inferior to England. These are the people whose job it is to not only uphold Scots sovereignty but to wield that ultimate authority, safeguarding the interests and integrity of the Scots and their territory. Neither the English in Parliament nor crown has any say in the matter. The admin at WM only need permission from their SCOTTISH MPs , the delegation Scots send to WM imbued with their sovereign authority to act on their behalf. What these delegates (Scot gov MPs) actually do however is far removed from their duty. They defer governance to their treaty partner, sit at the back of the room and adopt English parliamentary conventions allowing English (uk) gov to call the shots to the detriment of the Scots and their territory. The act of sitting at the back of the chamber signals to the English establishment that Scots are happy for England to use the parliament in the same manner as the former English parliament not as the new state parliament. Scots MPs should be taking the Scottish oath, sitting upfront at the table directly opposite their treaty partner and discussing mutual state interests and coming to agreements that are mutually beneficial. If any of the agreements violate the integrity or interests of Scotland and the Scots they, as Scots representatives, should be outright denying it not signing off on legislature drawn up by their English treaty partner.
Why call this out on this article comment? Because Scots are electing English state representatives due to this abdication of agency, breach of constitutional duty and subordination of Scots sovereignty. When your own Government MPs and their admin refuse to do their job by failing to protect your interests and territorial integrity, defer governance and treat you as inferior then regardless of policy the alternative, who actually do uphold their state sovereignty, national interests and terrotorial integrity, is simply more appealling. Why elect someone who will defer to them when you can elect them directly?
Scotland has never needed England’s approval but 300 years of Scots appointing English state representatives, England using the state parliament as its own (no need to change given they were also governing Scotland) and generations of Scots raised to believe this was simply how things were done has led to Scots not knowing their true power and the authority that they possess. The right to Scotland’s self determination, and all aspects of governance is not held by Scotland’s treaty partner but by the Scots themselves. If Scots want to change the trajectory they need to demand their delegation actually wields the power invested in them. They need to stop thinking of English (uk) gov and its establishment as Scotland’s superiors and they need to demand that the delegation (MPs) takes its rightful place in the state Parliament.

In 2015 Scotland for the first time elected an actual Scottish party to represemt them. Sadly, that party applied the rules that had governed Scotland for the past 300 years under England. (No, not colonialism but Scots appointing English state representatives much as they do today.) and deferred governance to their treaty partner. Even recently, when Scottish sovereignty was directly violated the Scottish admin and Scots gov MPs washed their hands of it and claimed it was for England to deal with. Should a major catastrophe occur with Trident or its replacement (so many near misses and leaks already, it is only a matter of time) that same palming off will be the response unless Scots stand up for their sovereign rights. That sovereignty isn’t just a word to be bandied about with no consequences. It is the ultimate authority that the Scots possess. It is beyond time Scots wielded it. (10 years grace to adapt to Scots returning an actual Scottish majority to Scotland is long enough. It is, as the English establishment said, time for Scots to lead.)

  • I watched the Prism today as I do every Sunday which I enjoy , I noticed however Alan going into an almost spittle flecked tirade at approx 59 mins in , I presume Alan was responding to a comment I made on the Prism titled “Is Scotland a colony” dated 18th January 2026 where I commented that I noticed that Alan was conflating concern about immigration as being a natural vote for Reform who were an outwardly racist party, in that comment I said that not everyone who supported independence was happy about the current levels of immigration and I thought it would be prudent not to antagonise or denigrate people who had these concerns , after all the mantra that has been pushed is INDEPENDENCE nothing less , his rant was about people unfairly conflating immigrants with rapist gangs and used 2 white paedophiles as an example of how white people can be just as evil , REALLY, maybe he could read Caltonjock’s post https://caltonjock.com/2026/01/31/keir-rodney-starmer-a-snapshot-of-his-career-before-he-became-the-leader-of-the-labour-party-and-it-is-not-an-easy-read-how-in-hell-did-he-get-away-with-the-incomptence/ maybe Caltonjock is RACIST for posting that , he also asked who you would turn too if you ran out of bread at Christmas , his answer was probably the wee Asian corner shop who were non Christians and didn’t celebrate Christmas , should we be grateful for that ,he said that any immigrants coming to Scotland would be told that you must adhere to our rules , culture and beliefs and if you break the law you could be deported , SURELY that is the current rules for immigrants but WM doesn’t enforce it

Politicians of ALL parties have REFUSED to discuss immigration and anyone raising any concerns about it are labelled as RACISTS in an effort to SILENCE them , I really thought Liberate Scotland were better than this but it appears that if you air your concerns and views you fall into the RACIST category of persona non grata

I usually agree with EVA but at 57mins into broadcast she was bemoaning the stepping down of certain members of the snp extolling their bravery , Fergus Ewing , Annabelle Ewing , Michelle Thomson , Joanna Cherry , Philippa Whitford and others

SORRY Eva everyone of them contributed to the despicable situation Scotland is in just now with their cowardice in FAILING to stand up for women and girls against the deviants and perverts in their party , Joanna Cherry and Michelle Thomson did it belatedly for their own ends the others did nothing but accept their salaries

    • Twathater,I think you need to re-listen to what Allan actually said. He made it quite clear that he was not suggesting all Reform voters are racist however repainted out that the Reform party/leadership mostcertainly are racist. They are extreme right-wing English Nationslists and their hatred of other non Snhlo races includes those ofus fortunate enough to be Celts.
On immigration are you aware that only about 4% of all annual immigration into the UK is illegal?

Immigrants and “stupid Celts” are any easy scapegoating for these extreme Tories

  • Without a shadow of a doubt the UK is beginning to fracture.

The UK is not a functioning democracy. Far from it the UK is an utterly rotten burgh bereft of any real rule of law or democratic governance

As is now emerging Lord Mandelson was art and part an integral piece of the international criminal network run by Jeffrey Epstein. As the third muskateer to Tony Blair and Gordon Brown this man committed treachery giving the utmost confidential information to Epstein at the time of the national banking collapse crisis. This is treason, nothing less.

That Gordon Brown has now confirmed that he wrote a letter to Nandelson last September before the documents release last week tells you that Brown had prior knowledge. That Brown last night was reported as having said that Mandelson’s actions were inexcusable and unpatriotic is deeply telling about him. But of course his mucker Tony Blair and his son are now reported to be worth hundreds and hundreds of millions each and one can only wonder where that money came from., and what monies Mr Mandelson may have accumulated

And meanwhile over the way the Royal Prince Andrew is now being up to his neck in an international criminal ring involving billions in finance and an underage sex bribe and blackmail.

And Starmer knew nothing about Mandelson when he only recently appointed him as ambassador. And neither does it seem that the King knew nothing all these years about his brother. Its utter rubbish. The Crown if not involved itself, will have known what was going on.

And ditto the Prime Minister and indeed ex Prime Minister Brown, will have had prior knowledge of what was going on.

MI5 will have known what was going on. And ditto even the lowly royal and political protection squads will know of where individuals like Mandelson and Andrew went and who they met. The police are therefore rotten too.

Frankly, how can anyone vote in a democratic system like this. Westminster at the highest levels is utterly corrupt.

So where do we go from here now that the exposure is starting to reach the public. Its a good question especially since Starmer has admitted their is more to come.

What is the penalty, or what should it be for treason.

    • Willie, you ask “Frankly, how can anyone vote in a democratic system like this. Westminster at the highest levels is utterly corrupt.”
The answer is simple, the UK Union is not a democracy, it is a feudal autocracy with some democratic window dressing, nothing more.

      • Absolutely right Roddy. Could not agree more.

The UK is as you say a feudal autocracy with some democracy window dressing.
