My working days were spent in Sales and Marketing. I would spend a lot of my time researching my competitors products and services. That way I knew best how to compete with them whenever I came up against them in the marketplace. It also allowed me to gain intelligence that I would pass on to my techies to innovate and improve our product/services. We were always looking for ways to improve. The market constantly changes successful companies embrace that change, unsuccessful companies do not and go out of business. The same occurs in the sporting world. Coaches analyse opponents and look at their strengths and weaknesses and then come up with tactics to secure victory. When an opponent discovers a new sport science or aerodynamic to speed a car that new idea/technology is seized upon and introduced into teams to keep them competitive. Just look at how football equipment, balls, boots and training methods have changed in past 4 decades. The same should be the case in politics. Know your opponent their strengths and weaknesses and formulate policies and strategies to defeat their arguments and in so doing, gain the trust, respect and votes of the public. When the public mood or society changes adapt to embrace those changes and reinvent yourself. Unfortunately, that is not how it works in UK politics, especially in Scotland. The Establishment has never freely given anything back to the people. Every last right or concession has had to be wrung out of those with the power. Change to the ruling elite is the enemy. From absolute monarchs to devolved parliaments, everything has had to have been forced out of the London elites.

The Suffragettes, Universal Suffrage, Welfare Reform, Trade Union recognition, Social Housing, NHS, Devolution, all fought for by the people none given as an initiative of the rulers. It took internal strife, world wars, threats of secession to gain any concessions from the Westminster Parliament.

This inability by Westminster to embrace change is the root of the inevitable end of the Union. Brexit is merely another symptom of the malaise in English politics. Post 1945 the world changed like never before. Countries that till this time that had been absolute monarchies were forced to become democratic with written constitutions and fair voting systems. Borders changed, empires ended, half of Europe was enslaved in communism. The balance of power moved from Western Europe to the USA and The Soviet Union. France and UK the two dominant World powers in 1939 by 1945 were bit players. The French realised this and they faced up to the new reality. After a short period of provisional government initially led by General Charles de Gaulle, a new constitution  (October 13, 1946) established the Fourth Republic under a parliamentary form of government controlled by a series of coalitions. A new world order was established.

The more enlightened governments especially in Europe realised that it could not be business as usual post 1945. On March 25, 1957, France, West Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg signed the treaty of Rome establishing the European Economic Community (EEC), to be known as the Common Market. The UK declined to be part of this their politicians still believing that UK did not need any alliances with Johnny Foreigner as they were superior to those on mainland Europe. Britannia could do just fine on their own. This and many other false narratives continued in UK. Nothing could shake the feeling of exceptionalism or invincibility with those in the British ruling elite. It seemed that every other week even as another of the Empire countries was heading for the door the status quo remained. Nothing changed at Westminster. No written constitution no reform of Westminster or the voting system. The HOL and Monarchy remained beyond reproach. A system of government that had served the imperial days stayed intact even as that empire vanished.

When in 1973 the UK eventually joined the EEC it had already suffered several recessions, financial crises, devaluations and general global humiliations. However, Westminster and the British ruling elite still would not contemplate any change to the antiquated British ruling system. The sharing of sovereignty with Brussels was another opportunity for political reform that was spurned in London. We all know UK was never truly in the EU. They were only there to take not to participate as an equal partner nation. This false narrative, that England/Britain/UK is still a global power persists to this day among a great number of our establishment flunkeys. Since 2015 I would suggest more Scots per head of population watch the Parliament TV Channel than any other parts of this union. We have witnessed first hand the pomposity, the idiocy and sheer incompetence of the Westminster system. No amount of linguistic excellence by Mr Speaker can disguise that Westminster is not fit for purpose in the 21st century. This begins with the ridiculous spectacle of the unelected head of state riding through the streets of London in a gold plated carriage to officials in 19th century dress performing idiotic rituals. While every other parliament on the globe votes electronically the British MPs walk through a lobby to be physically counted by appointed tellers. The MPs are referred to as ‘members’ and in their own minds they are different from the rest of us, superior to us. They certainly are treated differently. They can fiddle their expenses, steal, and yet keep their jobs. They can lie but never be called a liar. Research shows that because of the undemocratic FPTP System 95% of all seats rarely, if ever change hands. Therefore, if you are lucky enough to get one of these 95% of seats you can lie and steal with impunity and still keep your job. The public keep expressing their disgust at this however Westminster refuses to modernise.

The only changes of significance that have occurred in UK Governance since 1945, the welfare state, joining EEC in 1973 and Devolution 1999. The right-wing in England, the ruling elite, hates all three, they want these meagre rights destroyed. They, it appears want to turn the clock back to what they view as the halcyon days of pre-1914. With Brexit the European Project can be rolled back. The government trialled banning people who don’t have ID from voting in a number of local authorities in England in 2018 and 2019. The ruling elite keep finding ways to remove people from voting or ways to certainly make it more difficult to do so.It was only after World War One that universal suffrage arrived. The right-Wing think only certain people should be allowed to vote. Believe me, if you are reading this you are not one of the people they think should be allowed to vote!

Since the Thatcher years successive governments have been undermining and attacking the welfare system. Before we know it, like pre-1914 there will be no safety net for the poor and disadvantaged. The NHS we know is being prepared for privatisation meaning the poorest will die as they will not be able to afford to pay for medical treatment. This means less and less of your tax £s needed for social policies and can be given in tax cuts to the rich and corporations which will become even more profitable, meaning bigger dividends for the rich. It is a vicious circle we the plebs are not allowed to join. The only thing left standing  holding back the tide is, Holyrood. Stormont has been closed for three years now. The Welsh Senedd under House-Taffy Labour government agreed to return most of its powers back to Westminster to allow Brexit to proceed with no dissent in the valleys.

We, who have been paying attention have watched as the right-wing Tory shysters move the pieces to remove Scottish democracy at Holyrood. The Labour and Liberal Parties are only interested in power at Westminster and so have abandoned the people of Scotland. Our House-Jocks only have one policy, Stop Scottish Self-determination at all costs! They sit in our town councils and national Parliament without a thought for their Scottish voters needs and rights. With their every move they are only interested in the needs and rights of English voters.

When daybreak arrives on December 13th. by our effort and votes, we will have stopped this democratic outrage in its tracks or alternatively we will have allowed the Right-Wing charlatans and crooks to prevail. People have to realise the union will never change. They have had ample time and opportunity to give all of the UK a modern 21st century democracy. They have declined that time after time. We have a corrupt form of London imperialist governance. A corrupt and shameful 4th Estate. A tiny elite that are hell bent on stealing what little there is left to take.

Will we meekly sit back and let the political mafia of Westminster strip our nation of its democracy or give them a blooded nose?
