MACASKILL SLAMS “THE COURT OF QUEEN NIC”

A Press Release on behalf of Kenny MacAskill MP.

SCOTTISH MINISTERS AT THE HIGHEST NUMBER EVER IN THE HISTORY OF DEVOLUTION AS  INDEPENDENCE PUSH Stalls.

In a paper published today (Monday) Kenny MacAskill MP has revealed that the size of the Scottish Government’s ministerial team has grown to the extent that it is now bigger in actual numbers than Norway and in proportional terms bigger than Ireland. This despite the fact that the two Independent countries have considerably greater power than Scotland over the economy, taxation rates, social security, foreign affairs and international affairs.

In a statement Kenny MacAskill MP said:

“Devolved Scotland now has more actual Ministers than independent Norway with 27 ministers in Scotland out of a parliament of 129 compared to 20 in Norway which has 169 MPs. This is despite Norway having significantly greater powers including over its currency and monetary policy, all taxation rates, foreign affairs, international development and defence.

“In the case of Ireland just over a fifth (22%) of the members elected to their Parliament – 35 out of 160 are Ministers while in Scotland that figure has now risen to over a quarter (27%) – 27 out of 129. Again despite Ireland being an independent state.

“We are seeing the Court of Queen Nic with the number of ministers now at the highest level ever in the history of Devolution.

“Under this Scottish Government progress on independence has stalled, despite there being a renewed mandate in the Parliament for a referendum. Meanwhile administering devolution has become the priority.

“The Scottish Government has acquired limited additional powers since the Smith Commission reported in 2014, most notably over social security, powers which have still to be fully implemented.

“However none of this can justify the growth in the size of the Ministerial team and certainly not in relation to independent Ireland and Norway.

“The success of the Scottish Government in making progress on Independence as well as tackling the challenges facing the country in health, education, transport and jobs seems to be in inverse proportion to the number of Ministers appointed.

“It seems that the more Scottish Ministers there are the less progress there actually is in preparing Scotland for Independence.

“Despite the highest number of ministers in the history of Devolution the Scottish Government has failed to update the Independence White Paper to take account of the changed circumstances since 2014 and they have failed to provide answers or even just basic information on issues such as currency, debt, trade and borders.

“The fact remains that no number of ministers can compensate for the lack of progress on Independence as well as the overall policy vacuum, absence of vision and ambition displayed by the Scottish Government over a whole swathe of policy issues for which they have responsibility”.

    • Andrew, a few years ago I emailed my MP saying that there should be a Cabinet Minister for independence. My pathetic reply from my MP was just what you said that everyone is responsible for it.

If anyone expects me to believe this SNP leadership are for independence then I may as well believe my gran is supergirl.

  • So just consider if 5 of those bloated extra Ministerial posts aren’t required but are only there to provide Sturgeon’s Courtiers backhanders to help keep Queen Nicola in Her own position (Despite Her having deliberately lied to a Hollyrood inquiry already on Camera while trying to have Alex Salmond Jailed) 5 x MSP Salaries of £80 plus estimated “small estmated expense accounts ” of £30K each would be a total of £550,000.
But also now have Sturgeons cost of MSP use chauffeuer driven Limosines has also increased by £370,300 Since 2010.
So we now have a total of £940,300 being spent on Nicola’s favoured lackies instead of being spent on the actual people of Scotland themselves and this is what we have left to show for that instead. “The Scottish Government child poverty statistics for Glasgow show that 34% of children are living in relative poverty, that’s over 36,000 children (Just in Glasgow alone) https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=51136&p=0#:~:text=The%20Scottish%20Government%20child%20poverty,poverty%2C%20that%27s%20over%2036%2C000%20children.

The New Tinted Green SNP Elites in Holyrood are quite frankly making me sick to my stomach, for anyone that has read the Book are they reminded in anyway of these lines from George Orwells Animal Farm ““The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.” https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/11670-the-creatures-outside-looked-from-pig-to-man-and-from

  • Devolved Scotland? No, Scotland is not devolved. Nor is its nation. They have been since its formation entire and whole. It is the ADMINISTRATION that is devolved. The comment he makes should begin Scotland’s devolved administration now consists… But why not mention that Scotland had 56, yes 56, MPs which did nothing to advance Scotland’s statehood? Or the fact that those numbers have almost halved due to the utter abdication of responsibility? If he wants to see advancement on the reassertion of Scotland’s statehood he would be best to refer to Scotland in true terms instead of treating Scotland as having been subsumed into England. By all means point out the abdication of responsibility and lack of movement at Holyrood but be honest and admit that the administration must take its cues from the Scottish government which has failed to first of all recognise that it is an actual government and secondly, that it is their lack of responsibility coupled with their complete capitulation to a foreign country’s government that sees Scotland in the predicament that it is now in. Honest debate needs to be had by Alba representatives especially if they want to advance Scotland’s statehood. So far they have referred to Scotland’s sovereignty as abstract and Scotland’s nation and country as being devolved. Is this how they mean to go on?

Perhaps it is just me, but I would think anyone genuinely advocating reasserting Scotland’s statehood would as at the very least and as a matter of principle treat Scotland as what it actually is – a sovereign nation state that merely ratified and international Agreement as an equal partner with equal authority.

  • Out of curiosity, how many of the country’s that reasserted their statehood drew up a white paper outlining everything that needed to be done before making the proclamation?

  • The actual percentage for the Scottish Parliament is (just under) 21%, not 27%. You really need to brush up on your arithmetic, Kenny.
