History teaches us

I remember watching and listening to the British Labour Party in Scotland throughout my decades as an SNP member. The Scottish voters would occasionally indicate their dissatisfaction at Labour by electing SNP MPs in by-elections. Labour treated this as minor irritation, a mistake by the voters not as a warning of disquiet!

Twice in Govan by-elections, 1973 and 1988 with Margo Mcdonald and Jim Sillars overturned huge majorities. Labour did not listen. SLAB failed to see how quickly Scottish voters could turn.

In 1974 the SNP won 11 seats at the UK General Election. This put the wind up the Brits none more so than the Labour Party in Scotland. This had them scurrying about to try and kill the SNP stone dead. Not only did they hide the McRone Report that pointed to untold Scottish riches they began a propaganda campaign that continues to this day. Scotland is too poor, too stupid and too weak to be an independent nation.

They told us the oil in the North Sea was inferior oil. It was running out and could not sustain an independent Scotland. They told us/lied to us that the oil belonged to the US oil companies and we had no right to any of the bounty in our own internationally recognised waters. They were and continue to be abetted by a corrupt foreign owned media that spread their lies even now in 2023!

Next year being a UKGE year watch how the narrative on Scottish oil and renewables suddenly changes. Be ready for Aberdeen’s sell out Iain Wood to get air time to tell Scots that the oil is running out and too volatile a substance to be of any importance! He thinks you are so stupid he might even tell you the wind and seas are running out!

Labour devised a devolved Scottish Assembly con to steer the voters back to the fold. Since 1707 some treacherous Scots have been partial to Westminster gravy. The rise of the SNP was a threat to that supply of gravy for Labour House Jocks. In 1979 Labour reneged on the pledge of Scottish devolution and the Callaghan Government torn by internal strife collapsed to be replaced by Thatcher. She who in future history books will go down as the second biggest female enemy of Scottish independence!

Throughout Thatchers 19 year Tory rule of Scotland Labour spent most of its time attacking the Nats, not the Tories. The Labour devotion to Unionism is more than that of even the Tories.

According to SLAB Doctrine, voters are wrong and stupid for not voting for the oft promised land of Labour milk and honey. The Socialism trope is deployed at every election but never deployed in reality. They blame the media, the London Tories, the dreaded separatists for not understanding or distorting their policies. The general public are indeed too stupid to understand that Labour should get their vote without any questions being asked of the party or its policies.

Vote Labour to defeat the Tories. Again to this day they still push this shtik. They have since added to it, ‘ Vote for us because we are not as bad as the SNP or the Tories.’ When the Scottish voters told them that direct Westminster rule was no longer acceptable they refused to listen. They know best. The voters are wrong. The SNP is wrong and Alba are evil!

In 2007 when Scotland elected its first SNP Government Labour still remained defiant. They were right, the voters got it wrong. SNP BAD. When the 2011 Scottish election came along and independence fever was growing Labour remained oblivious to the voters. Labour was trounced and Alex Salmond won an unprecedented and likely never repeated majority at Holyrood. Still Labour refused to listen to the Scottish people.

At the 2010 UK General Election, the ever loyal Scottish voters gave Labour one more chance to deliver the socialism they promise at every election. Instead of moving left as promised the London Labour Party kept moving right. They kept attacking Scotland and Scots for wanting to improve Scotland’s governance.

When the 2014 Referendum campaign began, they climbed into bed with the Tories in Better Together. They sided against Scotland as always and gave their unstinting devotion to English overlordship of their country of birth. The voters have never forgiven them.

Even in these days where Labour have been the third party in Scotland their devotion to England and the Union remains undiminished. Their core is Unionism and SNP BAD is still their credo. They are still trying to punt Scots the same snake oil they have been selling since 1970. Every advancement on Scotland’s road to independence they have opposed. They prefer coalitions with Tories but will never contemplate the same with SNP at Westminster.

The price would be too great. An SNP Secretary of State of Scotland would have access to the Scotland Office filing cabinet and that must never happen. The McRone betrayal of Labour would be chicken feed. The decades, indeed centuries of treason committed against the Scottish people by successive House Jocks would be exposed. Treason is still a hanging offence!

The British Labour Party in Scotland were consigned to the bin and finally replaced by the SNP in 2015 at Westminster. Sadly, the SNP leadership minus Alex Salmond was not wise enough or belligerent enough to take advantage of the circumstances the Scottish electorate afforded them with 56 out of 59 Westminster seats.

Like Labour before them this present day SNP refuse to listen to the electorate. They blame Westminster, the Alba Party the pro independence new media for all their policy failures and their sliding numbers in the recent polls.

The voters are screaming out for independence. The SNP says no, gender issues are more important. A Hate Crime Bill is more important. A bottle return scheme is a more pressing issue than independence. The voters pleas go unheard by the elected SNP members. Instead dissenting is forbidden. Any criticism of the party, personnel or its policies makes you a yoon. Truth tellers are reviled by the SNP gravy slurpers.

The leaders of all three English registered parties squatting in Scotland have said they will never allow another independence referendum the SNP say they can’t keep saying no! Wanna bet?

When the voters say we want a united independence movement and a Constitutional Convention, the SNP say no. They determine unless you accept that rapists like Andrew Miller and Adam Graham are women and can be housed in Women only prisons you are not even worthy to campaign for Scottish independence. The SNP wants to keep the independence movement exclusively for themselves. Other independence supporters are to be shunned and marginalised, Just as Labour in Scotland did with dissenters in years gone by. Both want/ed exclusivity over our votes! However, they do not want our input unless of course we agree with absolutely everything they say or do!

The only difference is that instead of lying every election about delivering socialism the SNP lie about delivering independence. The polls show that support for the SNP is falling. In the last three opinion polls support for independence is 10 points higher than support for the SNP. That figure is likely to grow if the SNP continues to ignore the Yes Movement and voters.

This disparity in numbers should be a wake up call to the SNP strategists. Sadly, it’s not, instead of adjusting their tactics to address the reality of the present situation, they are doubling down on the very policies (All Green Party policies!) that have turned off the voters.

Last night on Question Time the yawning gap between the SNP and its core support was brutally exposed. The wee lassie Mairi McAllan was sitting beside the giant of Scottish politics and the difference was there for all to see. Alex Salmond with his measured and sensible contributions and Mairi rhyming off the ‘points’ some child SNP spad had written for her. She was extolling the qualities and achievements of the SNP Government of 2007 to 2014 while doing everything in her power to not even look at let alone acknowledge the man responsible for the best governance ever of Scotland.

There on UK National television the SNP once more squandered an open goal for the independence cause. Instead of being disdainful to the Alba Party leader, Mairi should have been told to extend the hand of unity and declared it to the world. Had that happened two things would have ensued. The SNP poll numbers would have improved. The Unionist cabal would have gone into meltdown, ultimately the independence cause would have received a boost.

Should the SNP be like Labour and continue on regardless I predict the next polls will show a further slide in support for the SNP while support for independence either remains stable or indeed rises slightly.

History or at least for the wise history teaches us to learn from past mistakes. Labour refused to listen to their core support and blamed another party for all their ills. They blamed the electorate for not understanding the Labour policies. They blamed the evil cybernats for their own failures. To this day Labour won’t face their elephant in the room, and that is Scotland’s desire for independence.

The SNP is making the exact same errors of judgement as Labour once did. Is there anyone left in the SNP that can save them from themselves? If not then like Labour before them, the SNP will be dealt a blow by the Scottish electorate. You have been warned!

  • The SNP are indeed in the same boat now as Labour was.

The SNP is no longer a party of independence. It is a party of colonial administration in Scotland working hard to undermine independence and the nation of Scotland. No one can be in any doubt about that now. Mandate after mandate squandered. Surrender after surrender they are the product of colonialism.

Better off without them than with them is now the reality. Time they were gone. And gone they will be. The people are waking up and the people will prevail. They will be replaced. And our colonial masters know and fear it. Independence has not gone away.

  • Watching yesterday Question time, we were able to astatine certain facts we in the Alba Party already knew but the NUSNP weren’t prepared to ever say until now,
1 The SNP policy on Independence is the obtain a section 30 until the UKG grants one even if it takes twenty years.
2 The opinion polls have to say a continuous lead for Independence at 60%
3 Only when the threshold of 60% has been met will the SNP say that democracy is being denied and will only then confront the UKG.
For anyone listen to QT yesterday will have noticed that the SNP has no intention of holding a convention or using any form of election to obtain Independence, the party is in the union for a long time to come.
So, I’d like to know why was the FM asking the SNP membership to dig deep for Indyref2 when 1 their policy is a section 30 only and 2 until the UKG grants a section 30 their will never be a Referendum on Independence, so why is Humza Yousless asking for money when he already knows this?

  • A great parallel of SLAB and SNP.
I watched his qtime and saw only Alec and the lady at the left end give honest coherent answers.
Ghe audience were very benign and forgiving .
Offerd was a disgrace to Scotland and the SNP woman well out of her depth.
I will post this article on Facebook .

  • Salmond fanatics cheering whilst he rips apart our chance of getting Indy across the line. QT and the BBC are delighted to give Salmond air time, as he destroys our dreams because he has an ax to grind for the attempt to hold him to account for not being trustable around women. Yesterday’s man successfully burning his legacy out of spite.

    • I have to say if Keith thinks the current iteration of the SNP will get independence across the line then I suspect he believes in the tooth fair or that he is no supporter of independence.

These last eight years the SNP has changed utterly. It is no longer an independence party. Hollowed out it undermines Scotland as a nation, as a people, as a country. Squandering mandate after mandate whilst undermining and submerging the people’s sovereign rights, accepting of the Hollyrood Parliament as a subsidiary creation of Westminster, accepting that only England can allow the people of Scotland to decide, assisting Westminster take Scotland out of Europe when the people said no, and saying now that the plan is to aim for the SNP to form a fag end balance of power in Westminster is but where we are.

Ah Keith I truly think with the comment that you have made you are a man on your knees crawling on behalf of your superior Westminster masters. Either that or Roddy is right that you are just a daftie

      • And I have a bridge I would like to sell him. Absolutely bang on the money Roddy. Talk about not learning the lessons from history. Sadly the cognitive dissonance levels in the massed ranks mean that I’m not expecting any epiphany any time soon

  • Unless the SNP can reform itself (maybe) and find the dynamism it requires then independence supporters will start to look elsewhere.. Alba and the ISP are waiting in the wings. As yet neither has managed to achieve an electoral breakthrough. The fear is that moving away from the SNP will split the independence vote and weaken the cause. The opportunity was there at the last Holyrood election to maximise the independence supporting MSPs by giving the second prefernce vote to Alba or the ISP. The SNP all-guns blazing successfully scuppered that idea (why?). Why is the question that is irritating many independence supporters. Well that’s history. Has the SNP become a devolutionist party. There are many within it’s ranks who are certainly not, but they seem to be flayling around without a strategy. The first non-SNP independence supporting MP/MSP elected could very well open the floodgates to a transfer of power within the yes movement. It won’t delay the march to independence but invigorate it.

  • You raise a very significant point Alistair King. Alba deliberately did not field constituency candidates that would have split the independence vote. Very sensibly, very tactically they stood only list MSPs. On the actual results that would have resulted in an SNP – ALBA super majority.

In the event the SNP understanding full well the dynamics of the electoral system promoted aggressively SNP1 and SNP with the utterly predictable result of a sweep of the constituency seats and only a couple of list seats thereby delivering a minority SNP.

Had they promoted SNP1 and ALBA 2 then Alba would have cleared out around twenty Tory and Labour unionist MSPs – which even the dimmest moron would recognise as being a huge advantage in a super independence majority Parliament.

The SNP’s actions in pursuing this policy was absolutely contrary to delivering an independence majority party. But that is what they did. Sold Scotland and the electors an absolute pup. Sold Scotland short.

Every action tooth and claw by this SNP is now anti independence. They are consumed by hate, yes hate for the prospect of independence. They are but colonial governors in the pay of their colonial masters and their actions at the last Scottish Parliament election absolutely reinforces that.
