Derek James Kerr to Stand in Edinburgh Western for Holyrood 2026 for Liberate Scotland
Engineer and Advocate Joins Growing National Slate to Deliver Independence for Scotland
Liberate Scotland is proud to announce that Derek James Kerr will stand as the constituency candidate for Edinburgh Western in the 2026 Scottish Parliament election, bringing professional expertise, lived experience, and a powerful commitment to Scottish independence.
A highly skilled electro-mechanical engineer with over three decades of consultancy work across both public and private sectors, Kerr has worked with local authorities, education programmes, and community initiatives, teaching digital skills and advocating for practical change.
“I’m not a politician, I’m a citizen who’s had enough,” Kerr said. “Enough of the broken union, enough of decisions being made elsewhere, and enough of seeing Scotland’s potential squandered, it’s time to take our future into our own hands.”
Diagnosed with dyslexia, Kerr has seen firsthand how systems often ignore or misunderstand neurodivergent individuals, his campaign includes a bold vision for a cradle-to-grave personal support system, one that prioritises the individual, not bureaucracy.
At the centre of Kerr’s platform is a clear, unwavering message, Scotland must be independent.
“We are not a region, we are a nation, we have the wealth, the resources, and the will, what we need now is the political courage to say, enough. The people of Scotland deserve the power to govern themselves, shape their economy, and build a future based on fairness and opportunity.”
Kerr’s announcement brings the total number of Liberate Scotland constituency candidates to 20, forming a growing grassroots movement determined to make the 2026 election a plebiscite on independence.
Standing on a platform of Independence nothing less, Liberate Scotland candidates offer a serious, action-based alternative to the broken promises of the mainstream parties.
