You have fundamentally missed who is the target audience for all those English MP Scottish cliches and press releases – Its England, not Scotland.
You stated your self, the English education system is deliberate in how it distorts Englishness vs the “colonies”. To them Iron Bru is a strangeness and these images are no different to Boris Johnston’s calling black people “piccaninnies or describing tribal warriors with “watermelon smiles”. It is a way of showing how Not English (read backward) Scotland is.
All English MPs are interested in is re-inforcing to their home power base that Scotland is so wee and would fail without the kind English. They know Scotland has no real power and they can deal with any negative impact in Scotland (or the SNP) when ever they need to. (I am constantly surprised how many YES talk like there will be a normal Scottish Parliament in the long term…If there is a No Deal, the future of Hollyrood won’t be years, it may only be weeks.)
Very good conversation, brilliant insight from from one of our new Scots. The question was asked during the conversation, and it remains one of the most pertinent questions: If the new Scots can work it out, why can’t 50% of the people born here?
Lovely chat. Thanks for sharing. Honour and nice that Saraband and his partner chose to come to Scotland and be Scots, so lovely also to hear how they have been welcomed. Really impressive also how how he has got into politics here. Sadly I must just agree that was his only HUGE mistake to choose Edinburgh over Glasgow…… 🙂
