VETO OVER SCOTTISH DEMOCRACY HAS NO
SCOTTISH MANDATE
Speaking to the Foreign Press Association at the Royal Overseas Club in London this morning (Wednesday) Former First Minister and ALBA Party Leader the Rt Hon Alex Salmond warned the contenders for the Tory leadership that outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s “veto over Scottish Democracy will not stand”. Meanwhile ALBA Westminster Group Leader Neale Hanvey MP announced that he will be writing to the remaining Tory leadership candidates informing them of Scotland’s Claim of Right and challenging them to respect the mandate for a Scottish Independence referendum, given by the Scottish people to their elected representatives in the Scottish Parliament and urging them, if elected, to agree to a Section 30 Order which would allow a legal and consented referendum to take place.
Speaking at the Foreign Press Association Alex Salmond will state:
“Whoever is elected Tory Leader and becomes Prime Minister must be made to realise that the will of the Scottish people and their elected Parliament cannot be denied indefinitely. That is why ALBA is advocating a coordinated campaign of popular demonstration, parliamentary intervention and diplomatic initiative to break Westminster’s stranglehold over Scottish Democracy and to force a change of position by the incoming Tory Prime Minister.”
Continuing Neale Hanvey MP will state:
“Scottish Democracy is not the plaything of Tory leadership candidates, as they attempt to out-bid each other in terms of who can be the most muscular and ardent Unionist. The Conservative Party have not won an electoral mandate in Scotland since 1955, so if Tory MPs are allowed to change their minds over who is Prime Minister and if the Tory Party is allowed to choose a new leader then so too must the people of Scotland be allowed to choose their own future in an Independence Referendum.
“That is why I am writing to each of the remaining Tory Leadership candidates today reminding them of Scotland’s Claim of Right, that it is for the people of Scotland and the people of Scotland alone, to determine the form of Government best suited to their needs. I am challenging them to respect the mandate for a Scottish Independence referendum given by the Scottish people and urging them, if elected, to agree to a Section 30 Order which would allow a legal and consented referendum to take place.”
Concluding ALBA Party Chair Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh will state:
“If Scottish Democracy is to mean anything there must be a Scottish Independence Referendum on 19 October 2023 as the First Minister has promised, no ifs, no buts. The refusal by outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson to respect Scotland’s mandate for that referendum to take place and his outright dismissal of the request for a Section 30 Order is a defining moment in Scottish politics on which the constitutional future of Scotland itself will be determined.”

Yes, it’s quite clear that having a tough stance on Scotland gives each candidate campaign oxygen. Perhaps the only oxygen that has ignition properties amongst the Tories.
Well, if they want to talk about Scotland, we shoulf explore it with them too.. it shouldn’t just be with the English MSN. They should at least know that they will be coming in as anti-democratic, anti-treaty-of-1707, overlords of a country, whose people claim sovereignty over their own government.
And we should be clear, because they are telling us, that they are just about to neuter and bypass the Scottish Parliament using their newly asserted Henry 8 powers on steroids.
So, again ALBA, many thanks for clarifying while these people are mid-campaign. The new fun and games will start with a bang in September.

The refusal will be the deciding factor in Scotland’s constitutional matter. I hope that means a denunciation will be forth coming should the English government continue to act as though they can deny the sovereign nation state of Scotland its legally protected CoR.
A very important start has been made by the true Scots for Independence. Thoroughly looking forward to the coming weeks now that we have at the helm highly intelligent, capable people armed with acute knowledge. At last we’re making headway!
Yes, precisely the attitude required. However, are we sure we can win a second indyref of any kind? We need to be 99% sure that we can win the day because we are not going into unknown territory here: we know the percentage of Scottish Unionists (roughly); the percentage of rUK voters (who will vote NO again by a large majority); and we know that there are many middle-of-the-road voters who will decide on the day. Personally, I’d rather no referendum than one we will lose again, and would opt for the Scottish constitutional route that is not bound by the Scotland Act and devolution. Too many loopholes for Westminster and Holyrood to squeeze through. By acknowledging the S30 route at all now, we are tacitly acknowledging the subservience of the Scottish parliament and the undeniable fact that Scotland’s parliament is the creature of Westminster. I know, anything is better than nothing, but, still…
God! how I’ve hated this S30 for a second indyref proposal. For much the same reasons as you Lorna, have expertly articulated here. But also because it was NS asking AGAIN, for it. We know that everything she touches does not turn to gold. It may be “gold” coloured, but unfortunately, it comes with a whiffy smell too. In this case, asking for another S30, was NS “assured” that it would not be granted, thereby getting her off the hook in having a vote next year? But now that Alba have jumped on the S30 refusal, changes all that. Can we say, instead of division, we now have a semblance of unity? We surely know, NS has not developed any plans to “win” a referendum, especially “playing the cards we have been dealt”. That requires someone who knows how to play the odds. Funnily enough, I know a man……..
This is what I want to hear, battle talk not whatever the UK wants. We at no point should be allowing a foreign country never mind a party we just don’t vote for to say if and when the Scots should leave this union, it just isn’t on.
The New SNP have settled down not up at Westminster, hence they are haemorrhaging support back home.
Big fires in London whilst the Prime Minister dings Cobra meetings, parties with friends in the sun shine, and takes jollies in gas guzzling fighter jet whilst meanwhile, the Tory party are at war, fighting for who will be the next leader.
Asleep at the wheel whilst the country is literally at war economically and physically, the sight of London burning is a sight to behold.
Time we were shot of them. Time we chose our own paths, and own pals and let England get on with running its own country down, and not ours.
This great from the Alba party putting Scotland’s interests at the forefront, however I’m pretty confident that it will just be ignored or some polite waffling replies will be sent out, there is no route out of this union via Westminster in my opinion.
Republic of Scotland. Despair not. There is a route out of Westminster just as there is a route into it.
All the people need to do is to decide that they want to be an independent nation. It is literally as simple as that. No one, no other country can stop the march of a nation, can say to that nation that they have no right to choose their own path.
Westminster May have guns, may have all the apparatus of a hostile state, and by God they have hostile hateful MPs, but they cannot stop democratic right, and rights that are moreover written in to so called union of which they say little.
Yes Alin, there is a route out of Westminster. It is there and waiting for us. And England, will not stop us.
The problem is Willie half of the indy masses in Scotland are still enamoured by Sturgeon, they still genuinely believe that Sturgeon will deliver independence, they refuse to see that, we are and have been since Sturgeon took the reins been played by her and her woke clique. Independence isn’t on their agenda, fulfilling their own goals and keeping their snout pushed firmly into the taxpayers trough is his on their list.
Until we get these people back onside and push as one big unit the indy movement will remain divided, as for the SNP MSPs even the nasty Tories know when to remove a maniacal leaders such as Johnson, yet our spineless and gutless SNP MSPs keep their heads down and mouths shut, even the ones that didn’t stand again at the last Holyrood elections haven’t came forward and whistleblown on what’s really going on within the party, as for the SNP MPs, their line of thinking will be they’re living high on the hog, and they’d be mad to want to jeopardise all of that to save Scotland from this rancid union, but they must keep playing the Westminster game to fool us.
The SNP MPs are now so embedded at Westminster that they’ve given themselves titles such as (Shadow Minister for…) and a well know SNP trougher who has been floating around the corridors of the HoC for nearly two-decades, and accomplished SFA Pete Wishart actually wants to be the Speaker of the House, we’d be mad to think this lot actually wants independence and in the process remove their snouts from the lucrative taxpayers trough.

More, please, of that dialogue, that rhetoric, which I wish to see, read, and be acted upon, respectively; would that certain Party at Westminster had some of the same ‘cojones..’
I agree with Lorna, why subject our cause to an English parliament method of S30 route to referendum
A claim of right and 6 mandates at elections have been passed. All we need to do is have those parties SNP, Alba and Greens assert this.
If Alba now take the NuSNP line of S30 then we are going to be subjected to Westminster rule for a long time.
If there is a referendum we need to look at other countries and use them as a guide. You might find that there is an emphasis on the Natives first then Foreigners but must have lived in Scotland for 10 years by providing proof. Marrying or cohabitating with a natural-born Scot for more than 3 years and so on.
In 2014 university students with nonpermanent addresses I believe were given a vote along with the military based in Scotland with no permanent residence in Scotland, civil servants who are not permanent residents 2nd homeowners who have their permanent address elsewhere. These people are not qualified to have any say in another country’s future.
