It is the week of the Holyrood election. This Thursday Scotland will decide its direction for the next five years. If we are smart with our votes then we can look forward to an independent Scotland. If we repeat the actions of 2016 and 2021 and give both our votes to one party, then we will remain firmly in the union. It was Einstein that famously said: 
John Swinney has said that in the event of an SNP majority on Thursday, on the first day back in Holyrood he will start the process to apply to Westminster for a Section 30 independence referendum. On numerous occasions Starmer has stated emphatically that he will never agree to another independence referendum. Why would he agree to allow the Scottish goose that lays so many golden eggs for England to leave the union?
I need to reiterate my position on a referendum. I think, indeed, I am as certain as is possible that no English Prime Minister will ever again agree to such a thing. It is not in the best interests of England to allow Scotland to leave the corrupt failed union. Independence isn’t granted by your coloniser; you need to take your own liberation.
We on this blog, and on Through A Scottish Prism, have for the past five years advocated two things: unity of the movement and that it should lead to every election being an independence plebiscite. This is the stated position of the Alliance To Liberate Scotland party.
At this election we have been unable to convince the SNP to join with us in this endeavour. They, like others in this movement, have put party before nation. The peach coloured ballot at this election is vitally important to the cause of independence, just as it is vitally important to the Unionists.
It is worth remembering that when the unionists at Westminster ceded devolution they built in many safeguards for Mother England. Reserving all the meaningful matters to London like economy, taxation, broadcasting, oil and gas, defence, and foreign affairs, they built in a fail-safe voting system to protect the English hegemony over Scotland.
The D’Hondt system (or D’Hondt method) is a mathematical formula for allocating seats in proportional representation elections, developed by Belgian mathematician Victor D’Hondt in 1878. It divides total votes for each party by a series of divisors (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) to calculate quotients, assigning seats sequentially to the highest quotients. While proportional, it slightly favors larger parties and it positively works against the smaller parties. The bottom line, the more constituency seats you win by FPTP voting, the fewer or zero seats that you will win on the Regional Lists.
This method was used because, except in freak circumstances, the election will always end up with no party winning an outright majority. This held two critical safeguards for the unionists. In 1999, at the first elections, there was only one independence party, the SNP. With this piece of Anglo skullduggery, it meant that the SNP could never be in government, at least not with a majority. Therefore, in this magical Westminster plan, the British Labour and Liberal parties would win every time at Holyrood and keep Scotland tightly under the English heel!
In 2011, a freak set of circumstances allowed Alex Salmond’s SNP to win the majority, a feat that he himself said should never have happened and was unlikely to ever happen again. The rest, as they say, is history.
2016 and 2021 confirmed that, with over a million votes for the SNP on the list producing 0 and 2 list seats only. The Unionists were the biggest beneficiaries of this crooked voting method. That is unless the Scottish voters wake up to the reality of D’Hondt.
We can use this system much as the unionists already do very successfully. In strong Tory areas like the Borders and North East, Labour and Liberals deploy paper candidates in the constituencies to aid the Tories in beating the dreaded SNP. In urban areas, Labour being the dominant unionist party, the Tories and Liberals field their weakest candidates and barely campaign. In rural areas, the Tories and Labour stand aside for their fellow Brits in the Liberal Party.
The thing about independence supporters is that we are in every region of Scotland. Unlike the Britnats that have demographic concentrations, we are everywhere. That is why we have to use the system to our advantage just as they do; we, though, have to be different in how we use it.
Vote for an independence candidate in the constituency and on the peach ballot paper vote for the Alliance To Liberate Scotland. That is the way to a super-majority and reducing the unionist bloc in Holyrood.vBelow is an example of what is possible by using our list vote wisely.

I was on twitter during the week and one guy said that he had been at a hustings in Pentland and every question put to the ATLS candidate was responded to by the candidate saying that independence was the answer
Obviously the guy was trying to mock and ridicule the ATLS candidate for his answers ,expecting everyone to join in and denigrate the ATLS candidate
I responded that the candidate was speaking the TRUTH , or would he prefer that the ATLS guy follow the rest of the fuckwits and spout loads of false promises and lies that will never see the light of day
And this is the problem when all of these lying politicians and political parties state their lies and promises they are never questioned on their lies and are never held to account for their deliberately failed promises
Alliance does what it says on the tin
This week show was the worst I’ve ever seen. We both voted for ATLS on the list and posted on the day we received our postal vote.
I really do believe the SNP will not gain but will lose seats, simply because I reckon it will be a extremely low turn out along with the constant msm saying the SNP will get a majority would have done the SNP no good at all.
The speech you played of John Swinney indicated to me from what Swinney was saying about what will happen after the election and how he would work with Pro-Independence party’s tell me that the SNP hasn’t got the response it wanted on the door steps.
The SNP has been amendment that they don’t need to work with other pro-indy parties and this has been their position since 2015 onward and its listening to Swinney’s statement that makes me believe either they have already done a deal with the green or they know they the SNP isn’t going to be able to form a government and will indeed need all other Indy to run Scotland.
Lets remember the SNP have been telling everyone to vote SNP 1 & 2 is the only way to win Independence to now the SNP is wanted to work with other Indy party after Thrusday their has to be something in this.
When JS was talking about working with other Pro-indy parties, he wasn’t talking about party’s in Scotland. He was talking about the Pro-Indy party’s in Wales and NI to develop a section 30 strategy to present to England’s PM.

It’s not just a case of those contending under the AtLS aegis being * merely * better ( in some vague way ), it is absolutely imperative that the calibre of MSPs is significantly raised and given the shockingly awful quality of the rest of the contenders ONLY the election of AtLS candidates can offer that possibility. Hope.
Like Phil, I’m f****** disgusted by all those single issue ( no, not Independence – if only ! ) obsessives, whom, even this close to a critical day for Scotland’s future, can’t put aside their personal bete-noires even for one day in order to contribute to the one thing that has a chance of mitigating those bete-noires, ie removing the SNP from it’s undeserved position of * leading * Scottish Political Party: the myopia is astonishing.
Idiots getting apoplectic re, eg Craig Murray standing for the Alliance; as it happens, I disagree strongly with him on the * Gender * issue – as do many others standing/intending to vote for the Alliance, SO F******* WHAT?! Craig rarely mentions this subject and even in the event of him winning his seat ( alas, given it’s location, it’s very unlikely ) does that mean all-of-a-sudden the * Trans * mob will storm Holyrood and turn the female toilets into a LGBlahBlahBlah hangout? Of course it doesn’t: what it WOULD mean is not only one less Yoon squatter, but the presence of a deeply committed, vastly experienced fighter for Scottish Independence; one who commands respect and warm admiration globally for his humanitarian views and actions.
Similarly the hostility from certain quarters re Tommy Sheridan, FFS! as a nation we are engaged in a fierce struggle – not just for Independence, it may be argued for our very existence as a distinct entity, so, do we not need proven fighters like Tommy to have any chance of winning this fight?
