2026 is only a few days old, and already it is looking like it will be worse for the ordinary folk than 2025, and that was a hell of a year! I am in my 70s, and I can honestly say that we have never been closer to WWIII than we are now. This is a bigger threat than even the Cuban Missile Crisis!
This time we cannot blame the ‘commies’ or the Islamists. Good old western hubris and greed are the cause. Wars begin and end with greed. Resources and land are the triggers.
The Roman Empire’s expansion was driven by economic ambition and political factors, starting with necessity against Italian neighbors, evolving into a quest for resources, wealth, and secure frontiers, and fueled by military prowess, Roman superiority beliefs, and the personal glory and power sought by generals and politicians, creating a cycle of conquest for survival, prosperity, and prestige.
Resources & Wealth: Conquest brought access to valuable land, natural resources, minerals, grain, manpower, ports, and wealth, enriching Rome and its elite.
Trade Routes: Controlling the Mediterranean Sea and its trade routes was a major economic goal.
These same factors repeat themselves time and again; it was not just exclusive to the Romans. Indeed, all the European countries, post-Roman occupation, have been motivated by the same things and resulted in the Europeans having empires throughout the globe.
Indeed, WWI was a result of greed and just for resources. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was merely the trigger, not the real reason.
Tensions had been mounting for decades as the major powers grew their armies and Empires. The competition among European powers to acquire colonies and resources in Africa and Asia led to frequent diplomatic clashes and increased rivalries for global power and wealth. Germany, having entered the colonial “scramble” late, sought to expand its limited empire at the expense of others, leading to increased conflict over existing colonial holdings. That was the real reason: greed and expansionism!
Unlike the lies we are taught at school, these expansions are never for the benefit of the conquered nations; it is about exploitation and natural resources. The Second World War was really a rematch of WWI and the years between 1918 and 1939 were nothing more than a break in the hostilities as the nations rearmed and equipped themselves. Greed and hubris once more came into play in 1939.
The central motivation for the Nazis was the belief that the German “Aryan” people required more land and resources to survive and thrive as a superior race. Hitler envisioned conquering Central and Eastern Europe, particularly the Soviet Union, to create an “imperial hinterland.” They called it Lebensraum (living space); this was to give it a cloak of respectability for the outside world.
Regrettably, humankind did not learn from its mistakes.Combined, the World Wars caused catastrophic losses, with estimates ranging widely but generally falling around 100-150 million dead! Since WWII, the European nations ravaged by these wars saw their empires crumble.
Post-1945 this has left only the United States as an imperial power. The United States has militarily intervened in a vast number of nations since 1945, with estimates suggesting involvement in around 70 to over 90 countries, including invasions, bombings, or significant military operations.
The U.S. has also been involved in dozens, potentially over 100, covert regime changes and foreign election interventions since 1945, with estimates varying by study and definition, but often citing around 70-80 Cold War-era attempts (60+ covert) and many more involving election meddling or other covert support, shaping global politics across Latin America, Asia, and Africa, with examples like Iran (1953), Guatemala (1954), Chile (1973), and frequent interference in Italy, Japan, and Cuba.
Israel practices its own form of Lebensraum in western Asia, taking more and more Arabic land every day. It is imperialism in every way. Backed by the US both these nations ignore international law and norms. Europe, ironically enough, is now a giant US colony. They never condemn or sanction either of the two most prolific warmongering genocidal colonising nations so US and Israel continue to steal land and resources unabated.
This past week the US once more broke international law and illegally attacked and bombed Venezuela. To compound their illegality they kidnapped the democratically elected President Maduro citing drug trafficking as his ‘crime.’ That lie is already beginning you unravel though I expect the US corrupt system will find something else to justify jailing the President.
However, nowadays we have other nations, namely Russia and China that cannot be bullied or threatened by the US. They are positioning themselves, and indicating their red lines. NATO expansion in Eastern Europe and Taiwan in Asia are those red lines. Trump’s hubris could be the trigger.
Donald Trump is a narcissistic demigod that sees himself as omnipotent. He like so many politicians sees himself as infallible and his opponents as weak and powerless to stop him. He nerely takeswhatever he wants and ignores the constitution or laws. It is a consistent theme throughout history that figures who achieve immense power through war and dictatorial rule, such as Hitler, Mussolini, Napoleon, and Nero, eventually face a downfall, often a dramatic one, when their regimes collapse due to a combination of external forces, internal dissent, and overreach. I suspect the same fate awaits The Donald.
He is surrounded by a pack of egotistical rich parasites that see in him a route to even more wealth and resources. They do not worry about wars as they have enough personal wealth and fall out shelters to survive even nuclear war. They massage his ego and encourage him to continue in his illegal ways so they can personally benefit to the detriment of all others.
Meanwhile, in Scotland our desire for independence could be ended by a nuclear holocaust. As a back up John Swinney is not depending on Armageddon to thwart Scotland’s ambitions, he is counting on a policy of a Section 30 to ensure we remain an English colony.
Swinney this week, told Scottish voters not to vote for any other independence parties, only the SNP. This, as we all know ensures that there is no overall Independence super-majority at Holyrood, and loads of Unionist MSPs instead. Way to go John!
These are the two main topics for the Through A Scottish Prism panel of Eva Comrie, Lloyd Quinan, Allan Petrie and Phil Boswell. They are back after a short festive break giving their opinions on these and other topics of the week.
Webcom Radio is Now Playing:
Did Labour’s post-war parliamentary majority simply disappear due to ‘natural causes’ or did American interests along with their powerful Brit allies on the Right who shared a virulent anti-Communist paranoia make it happen? Given what we know and can see today, that possibility would seem to carry a great deal of supporting evidence world-wide. Did America with it’s vast wealth and resources successfully effect regime-change here? We’ll probably never know.
A very thought provoking observation and I would suggest entirely possible.
Very interesting post. I would suggest to look even closer to home. Scotland appears to have been subjected to relentless interventionism and regime change.
I have been for a while of the opinion that the change from a proper, clear, active pro-independence government under the leadership of Mr Salmond to a completely useless devolutionist one “led” by Sturgeon, then passed on to Yousaf and now Swinney, was in fact a regime change.
It is my opinion that we are now under the control of the foreign power that orchestrated that change. I am not even sure anymore that such power is the British state. My suspicion is that the British state has itself been subjected to regime change and is currently under the control of a foreign power.
Democracy, or any pretence of it in Scotland has been completely wiped out. Laughably, political parties keep claiming “victory” when the turnout to elections is so, so ridiculously low that in the last few cases there has not even been a majority of voters endorsing the election as democratic.
When less than 50% of the electorate endorse the election, can you really talk about a “democratic victory”? I do not believe you can. Elections have become simply a ticking exercise that “legitimises” the installation of the next puppet selected by the usurping power.
The so called Scottish government and cabinet are useless puppets, just as the “leaders” of the colonial political branches in Scotland. Government and cabinet in Scotland survive thanks to industrial scale redactions and suppression of information from the public. My question is if the deliberate destabilisation and corruption of government and the fabrication of a banana republic is part of the preparative process for the “regime change” or if it is the necessary process by which the unlawfully changed regime survives. This would give us an idea on how far down the rabbit hole of regime change we have been taken already.
The election of Yousaf as “leader” of the SnP was way, way dodgy, but at least he can be credited with taking part in some form of “election”. Murrell calling help from the security services at the time “to ensure the election was democratic”. set all kind of alarm bells ringing.
Fast forward to Swinney. He was not even elected, he was catapulted to the position of “leader”. More importantly, he remains in such post despite decimating the number of SNP MPs in Westminster at the last election. He arrogantly claimed he was going to continue as “leader” until at least the Holyrood election in 2031. That is inexplicable to me unless a foreign power is deliberately keeping that useless tool in post.
All this tallies very well with the destruction of the democratic processes of the SNP party that started under the political fraud Sturgeon. Now it is not possible for the membership to remove a “leader”. In other words, what we have currently it is a direct dictatorship disguised as party politics. Whoever controls the “leader” controls Scotland. Another sign of regime change. There were suggestions that Angus Robertson was the architect of those changes in the democratic processes of the party. For this reason, the “meetings” of Robertson with Israel representatives reported in the press are “interesting”, to say the least.
We have seen the same strategy of destruction of democratic processes deployed for the English labour party. This clearly suggests that the same power abusing Scotland’s political parties is also abusing England’s ones. Interestingly, the so called “Friends of Israel” appears to have a significant level of power and control on who gets selected as candidate or not.
All this points to the likely possibility that England has also been subjected to regime change and makes me even more suspicious that Yes might have won in 2014.
That the democratic processes of the parties have to be destroyed this way tells us the puppets selected by the foreign power are so, so deliberately unpopular that the usurping power has to resort to completely erase any pretence of democracy to keep those useless and destructive puppets in post. Between Swinney and Starmer, it is hard to say which one is more unpopular, more useless, more toxic or more destructive for the countries (Scotland/England) they claim to govern.
What is obvious to me is that if this regime change would have not taken place, Scotland would be independent today. If Scotland was independent today, would England have left the EU? if England had not left the EU, would the Nord Stream pipe had been blown? Would England have intervened in the Ukraine’s war? Would Johnson have persuaded Zelensky to reject the peace deal in 2022? If Scotland was independent today, would we have seen the USA pirates abusing our territory to violate international law and steal other countries’ oil tankers?
I am sure that all the quangos subsidised by a government are an integral part of the network that props up the unlawfully imposed regime. The quangos create an useful echo chamber that fabricates the illusion of diversity of opinion, when in reality they are all on the same side. led and paid by the same master. How many quangos do we have in Scotland currently subsidised by the Scot gov? How many did we have before the tool Sturgeon took over?
The approach or appetite towards Scotland’s independence, the proliferation of quangos or the “selection” of puppets to act as leader are not the only things that have changed between the original SNP and the seemingly devolutionist concoction currently floated under the SNP brand.
The approach to foreign policy is what, to me, stands out the most. Now it aligns perfectly with British policy and that is completely out of sync with the tradition of the political party. The stance towards weapons of mass destruction or international law appears to have changed too.
The release of the recordings of Victoria “fck the EU” Nuland leave no doubt as to who started the war in Ukraine. It was the meddling of the USA, their signature “regime change”. Yet, we saw the neoliberal puppet Sturgeon enthusiastically cheerleading for that war, an unnecessary war that has killed, if not murdered so many young Ukrainians and Russians. All to satisfy the insatiable imperialist greed of the USA. Russia was painted as the great bogeyman. Yet, looking retrospectively, Russia seems to be the only sane country in Europe which is stopping WWIII and standing up to the bully USA.
I have many questions about the Ukraine war. For instance, what is the role of Israel in that war? or was the purpose of that war to engage Russia into a war so it could take the foot off the pedal in the ME, Iran in particular? Or was just the excuse for the imperial power to blow the Nord stream pipe and force Europe to buy oil and gas in dollars? We all know Russia was moving away from the dollar.
The emergence of the Euro and countries purchasing commodities in Euros was the beginning of the process of dedollarisation. So what is the ultimate goal here, to destroy the Euro?
The hypocrisy of criticising Russia and cheerleading for the sanctions against it, and then look the other way, or even endorsing the violations of international law by USA, crimes of kidnapping and theft of other countries’ resources is astounding. That is not what a grown government does. That is what a proxy puppet government acting for the interests of a foreign power does.
The attempt of getting rid of juries is not an isolated thing in Scotland either. It is being attempted down south also – again, perfect alignment with the British state and completely out of sync with party tradition. It is obvious to me that this is an step forward toward fascism, towards absolutism.
Let’s not forget that the favourite puppets installed by USA in those countries it subjects to regime change are dictators. But for that to work, there has to be already a network in place those dictators can use and protect themselves with, otherwise they would not last a minute. Well, it is my opinion that getting rid of juries is a step within the strategy that is creating such network for Scotland and England. The foreign, usurping power/s are preparing the ground to install a dictator.
The rather negligent and infuriating comments from Swinney regarding “fearing his teenage children having to take part in wars” point towards him being a foreign, usurping power puppet. Those comments are not innocent or “in passing”. They are part of a narrative that has been under play from the moment it was obvious Russia was winning the war. This useful idiot is clearly amplifying the narrative of mass conscription and fuelling up war fear and sentiment. What a pathetic and embarrassing tool.
Hiding behind the folly of the S30 order to delay, delay, delay is of course part of the script of regime change. Deliberately keeping us permanently in Groundhog day. running in circles, moving nowhere. It is like a war of attrition without weapons: trying to exhaust the yes movement. Meanwhile, the stripping of Scotland’s assets accelerates, aided by the current useless SNP. I am sure the asset stripping is also part of the regime change manual.
The useless Sturgeon brought the Lord Advocate figure to government, breaking with the tradition of the party led by Salmond. Now, that figure of the lord Advocate was crucial in stopping the bill for the referendum getting into Holyrood. Why was that important? Because there was a pro-indy majority which would have passed that bill should it entered the chamber.
That would put the monarch in a very awkward position: either he stamped it effectively signalling the end of the UK, or reveal himself as a dictator who would refuse the will of parliament. The only way to stop such embarrassment was by stopping that bill entering parliament. And that is what the useful idiot Sturgeon did.
In other words, it is not just a matter that the useless Sturgeon failed to deliver a referendum. It is that she actively blocked it by making use of the that Lord Advocate figure to stop the bill.
She did it twice by the way. Let’s remember that she also used the lord Advocate figure to get the ruling from the English court. The logical thing, because this is Scotland, would have been to use a court in Scotland. This is what any nationalist would have done. But she didn’t. She used the colonial English court. My interpretation is that they could not ensure a Scottish court, applying Scottish law would reach the same ruling.
What is clear to me is that Sturgeon is an useful idiot. The question is whose useful idiot. Is it the crown? is it USA’s? or is it Israel’s?
And well, the shenanigans of the COPFS, and the UK civil servants operating in the Scot Gov speak for themselves.
There is no doubt in my mind Scotland was subjected to regime change. I remember in one interview when Mr Salmond was asked why he resigned in 2014, his response at the time was that it had been made clear to him that Scotland could not be taken to independence with him as a leader. What he never said is who “made it clear” to him or how.
Now, what I am not so clear is what foreign power instigated that regime change. The UK has behaved in the last few years as a vassal state. As a complete puppet led by USA and Israel. Even now, one wonders whose orders the amoeba Starmer is following, who is really running the UK, who were really the Ukrainian male models and until what point they were the reason for the so called “coalition of the willing” to exist today and the intervention of the UK in the Ukrainian war.
Very old records from the wikileaks showed how the USA was watching closely the situation in Scotland. I am speaking from memory, but the entry clearly stated that the USA would consider intervention if their interests were affected. Well, lets imagine for a second that Mr Salmond did indeed win the 2014 referendum. What would the USA have done, particularly when the SNP’s foreign policy under Mr Salmond was completely at odds with that of USA and the warmongers in Westminster?
The landslide for the SNP in 2015 immediately after a referendum on independence which, according to the official narrative, put “No” 10 points ahead of “Yes” simply does not fit.
If “No” had really won in 2014, what we would have seen is the SNP completely hammered on that election. The unionists would have gone to vote in masse to finish the SNP once and for all. However, what we saw was the precisely opposite. The vote for pro-indy parties combined (as we thought they were at the time) surpassed 50%. That was, without a shadow of a doubt, the most dangerous point in the existence of the UK.
And who was “leading” the SNP at the time? The useful idiot Sturgeon. Let’s not forget her words: “a vote for the SNP is not a vote for independence”. Words she said AFTER the polls were predicting a landslide for the SNP. So her words cannot be interpreted as an attempt to increase the vote. They were designed to reign in the pro-independence vote.
Lets not forget either that the useful idiot Sturgeon was singlehandedly the tool that allowed Brexit to happen. Should we have had a real pro-independence FM and nationalist leader of the government party, and brexit would not have happened unless the UK “union” was terminated.
Was the take down of Mr Salmond a fundamental part of this regime change? In my opinion it was.
Was the gender wars nonsense a deliberate tool to create division within the yes movement and to create disarray among the parties? In my opinion it was.
Have the last 10 years of deliberate inaction and the idiocy of peddling the S30 crap over and over again a deliberate strategy to exhaust our hopes for independence? In my opinion it is.
Is Scotland a dictatorship? In my opinion it is.
My fear is what the foreign power is planning to do if the result in the upcoming Holyrood election and the UK general election do not go the way it wants. Will they be blatantly rigged to ensure the result is the “right” one?
You say we are closer to war now than during the Cuban crisis and I for one would agree.
War is about money, resources, money and more money. Britain is a faded power its economy on the slide. The famed City of London is no longer the world leader that it used to hold itself out to be. Industrial economic output is in relentless decline as living standards slip. Contrast what China makes with what proud blighty makes and you see the decline. Or contrast GDP per capita and you’ll see some 30 plus countries ahead of mighty Britain with many of these countries ex British colonies. And this according is supposed to be our Golden Era with our best years ahead.
But fear not a war is a useful thing. Who needs social provision like health care, or infrastructure investment when a war economy can soar the profits and stock value of the defence industry. Its tried and tested economic strategy.
And now with boots on the ground in the Ukraine – Russia war the talk is of conscription. Just the thing for our young people. Training them to fight makes so much sense.
And do the donkeys want war. Well sadly many do. They sup the poison press that the media feeds them, and together with an innate desire to fight, the donkey class roundly support war intervention. President Putin, Murmar Gadaffi, Saddam Hussain, Kim Jong Ung, President XI Jinping of China, the Ayatollah of Iran, the world is full of countries and leaders who we hate, who we want to fight.
But a review of Britain’s military interventions alone this first quarter of the 21st century will tell you that. In that period the UK has been fighting in –
– Sierra Leone (2000 to 2002),
– Afghanistan ( 2001 to 2012)
– Iraq ( 2003 to 2009)
– Somalia ( 2009 to present )
-Libya ( 2011 – present )
– War Against Islamic state ( 2014 to 2024)
– Operation Prosperity Shader ( 2023 to 2025)
– Venezuela Ops ( 2025)
And of course the UK has troops and advisers in Ukraine, has military and military assets deployed to assist the IDF in Gaza. Its crystal clear that the UK is never far away from war. But a war with Russia. Now that’s a big big ask. Britin may think it can go toe to toe with Russia but somehow I think not.
But as I say, do the donkeys know, or do they even care. There is pride in losig your sons and daughters in war. Your grandchildren. A price to be paid for greatness. And a cause for commemoration November to remember the ” fallen ” as they are euphemistically called.. History repeats and Britain needs to do what it has always done. Will we go to a ( world ) war with Russia. Sadly, I very much suspect so. The punters, or at least many of them wouldn’t have it any other way.
Its like voting for Reform whose policy to to disband the NHS and replace it with an American system. Turkeys and Christmas, I’m sure they sleep soundly.
It is mentioned during the podcast that the Scottish Government did not know or was not advised that the bully and serial international law violator USA was going to use (abuse?) Scotland’s territory to commit another act of piracy on international waters.
I am not sure what to think about this, to be honest. If my suspicions are correct, Scotland was subjected to regime change in 2014 and the current regime and “leader” is acting as a vassal of the USA. In such scenario, USA does not feel it has to ask consent or to inform anyone about using (abusing?) Scotland’s territory to commit crimes against international law. It already controls it, so it is already empowered to do as it pleases. I did not hear Swinney complaining about USA’s military using Scotland’s territory as and extension of the USA.
In my view, the same seems to apply to England. This is reflected in the ridiculous situation where a human rights lawyer, allegedly the PM of the UK, cannot find the balls to stand up in the UK parliament and acknowledge that what Trump did in Venezuela was a crime and a violation of international law. Instead, he talks in circles like a pathetic coward. I did not hear Starmer complaining about the USA’s military using England’s territory as an extension of the USa.
On the other hand, I do not believe a word that comes out of Swinney’s mouth. So I do not believe he did not know about this. If he did not and was really concerned, he would have planted himself right there demanding explanations.
It is wonderfully convenient, from a political perspective, to play the ignorant fool, particularly when you are a coward. Because if you do not play the ignorant fool, you would have to explain, convincingly, to a significant section of your voting base why you consented a foreign power to drag Scotland into serious danger forcing it to take part in a crime against international law.
Because there is an election in the horizon, it is not convenient to simply scramble the wagons just as they were scrambled to shield Angus Robertson when his meetings with Israel representatives were exposed in the press breaching what many voters thought to be party policy. Doing so may alienate even more SNP former voters.
Whilst playing the ignorant fool, Swinney can continue whining and blaming the Brits. And it will be the Brits, because I do not think he would ever attempt to find, borrow or rent a spine strong enough to get him to stand upright and blame the USA itself.
The way USA is using Scotland’s territory without any regards whatsoever for our security tells me that the post-2014 regime has made Scotland a vassal of the USA. This, to me, is confirmed by the number of Scottish politicians who have travelled to USA to be brainwashed, sorry, to attend “leadership training” or to “help out” during USA’s elections. It would be interesting to know how many USA politicians have come to Scotland since 2014 or even during 2014 to “assist” with campaigning and elections.
