  • 23.22 on Monday and we still don’t know the NEC results. A general election result is announced earlier than this. PS Top Shop cannae ‘phone anybody now.

  • That was cracking , guys, thanks to you all. It’s a great treat for the heid to hear you discussing serious issues that tend tend to be kicked into the long grass by the party managers .So much of what was said at the conference sounded like holiday brochure material , mere puffery ,self congratulatory and devoid of real debate .

  • A very reasonable and reasoned discussion so thank you.
While I too am scunnered by the attitude to dissent shown by senior figures…I fail to be surprised by this. No matter the promises and grand words used when discussing the operation of the Party, transparency, internal democracy, etc, human nature will prevail. When people acquire power, then they will seek to acquire even more power…and that is a universal truth. Those attempting to crush dissent will believe that they are justified in doing so, as it is they who know the correct path to the holy grail….we have to assume in saying this that they really do want to achieve this.
Every member of the SNP, while listening to what the leaders say, must judge them by their actions…..or which may be the case…inactions.

  • Mike and Dave thanks for putting this meeting together , as is evidenced comfy pete’s assertions are woeful and deranged , it is even more regrettable that he has ANY say in the direction of Scottish independence or politics
I unashamedly agreed with all the bloggers apart from Peter Bell , I agree with Peter’s view that a sect30 is NOT needed or even desirable , but I disagree with his opposition to a plebiscite election , his insistence of an SNP mandate for a referendum not requiring a sect30 only allows Sturgeon to kick the can down the road again using whatever excuse she can cobble together , which we ALL know she loves grasping excuses to delay decisions

WOS ran a poll recently which stated a certain percentage of respondents would ONLY vote for independence if the SNP and NS were in charge of it , IMO Peter Bell is tentatively in that mindset , it is admirable to some extent Peter’s loyalty to his party , but the chances and opportunities they and NS have SQUANDERED does not instill the confidence that they are totally committed to independence by other than the sect30 route
Peter is also vehemently opposed to giving any NEW parties votes , as in his opinion this will only dilute and possibly impact the SNP gaining a majority , but what good is that majority going to be if they JUST continue carrot dangling for the next 5 years

I made a comment on one of the blogs to the extent ( it is VERY EASY to minimise the impact NEW independence parties will have on SNP votes and their ability to be elected to governance , ALL they have to do is declare the MAY 2021 election will be a plebiscite election for independence and if they win the majority of seats they will IMMEDIATELY start negotiations for the dissolution of the union ) that is so easy and if WM don’t agree they can take us to court , job done , to NOT follow this course only indicates to myself and others that independence comes secondary to power and governance
