Through A Scottish Prism / Iran and The Trap That Could Haunt The Union. Yesterday, just as we were about to record the podcast, word came through of the illegal and unprovoked attack on the sovereign nation of Iran. The rogue states of USA and Israel had for the past 30 years threatened to carry out this illegal act. Yesterday was the start of a conflict that will have huge global repercussions for decades to come. Those repercussions will also affect Scotland. Indeed, divisions on this very topic have already surfaced. The same people who try to tell you the Russian SMO of 2022 was an affront to mankind and that Putin was an evil devil will now, without so much as a red face, tell you that Iran has no right to self-defence and that killing their spiritual leader is not illegal. The west has not yet managed to understand the significance of their assassination of Ali Hosseini Khamenei or the backlash that will follow. The usual Western arrogance and pomposity prevents them from seeing the reality.
Therefore, we at TASP felt duty bound to discuss that as a ”Breaking News item.” It certainly evoked a first-class analysis by the panel of Lloyd Quinan, Eva Comrie, Phil Boswell and Allan Petrie.
Other matters of the week were not forgotten. Once more away from Scotland, the reverberations from the Gorton & Denton by-election. Right up until the returning officer made his declaration, the pollsters and pundits were telling us that it was too close to call and that it was a two-horse race between Reform and Labour; the Greens actually won it! One of the sub- questions on this great victory of the Greens was how did the pollsters get this so wrong? Was it bad weighting, or not a wide enough demographic spread, not enough voters asked perhaps? The other alternative was that the pollsters, who like our media are owned by the same demographic, might have put their own slant on things, trying to engineer a result for the establishment.
There is nothing the Anglo elite fear more than when the proletariat start thinking for themselves and start voting for one of the parties not approved by them! I mean to say, none of their alma mater acolytes are in this party. They don’t like people being elected who talk about fairness, equality, closing the pay gap, equal pay, neutrality; those words are toxic in the home counties! Same in the Celtic nations; the parties of secession and liberation tend not to encourage the ex-English Public School/Oxbridge types into their ranks. The only ones are those placed in there by the Brit spooks.
The new MP for Gorton & Denton MP had not even finished her acceptance speech before the Reform Party and others of the establishment started to question the result. That is what our right-wing, neoliberal, extreme capitalists and warmongers always do. Any democratic event that doesn’t go their way has to be questioned. This time the gripe was ” Family Voting.” Some little-known organisation, Democracy Volunteers, brought this to the attention of us and our rabid right-wingers and corrupt media were on to it immediately.
Trump did the exact same in 2020 when he lost at the ballot box, he cried “it is a fix!” look how that is turned out for the USA.
That is where the UK is heading if the voters are not very careful. The upside of the by-election result was that this seems to confirm that the Reform star is starting to fade. It almost makes me want to feel a little remorse for all those Tory carpetbaggers that thought Reform was their guarantee of staying on the gravy train. However, being the old cynic I am, I feel nothing but contempt for these grifters.
Other topics that we managed to cover included the timebomb that is the perilous state of England’s water companies and the financial fallout that will be handed to the PAYE taxpayers of the UK. Our elite and filthy rich will of course, will pay nothing towards this financial catastrophe. Just like with the banks in 2008 those that caused the problem in the first place, and who profited the most will be tax free on this financial disaster. The Oxbridge motto, Privatise the Profits, Socialise the Losses!
The Sturgeon Papers, as Eva rightly called them, uncovered more revelations for the Scottish public about the disgusting treatment meted out to Alex Salmond. We heard this week that certain evidence Alex wanted to enter into evidence for James Hamilton KC to hear was deemed by COPFS to be a crime in the making. Salmond was warned he faced prosecution if he made these truths known in evidence!
Scotland and the entire UK is becoming more and more like a Banana Republic without the bananas or sunshine!

I am horrified by continuing events.I would have thought that at the very least Westminster would have condemned events in Palestine instead of the mealy mouthed cop out of ‘ they have to be able to defend themselves mantra – which doesn’t appear to apply to Iran . I am utterly sickened by the bully tactics of the USA and their partner in the middle east but it does make me wonder just who is grasping the short and curlies of whom and what useful blackmailing dirt they have.
I think it fair to say the ramifications of what has happened in the middle east will be huge. If anyone thought killing an old 86 year old cleric and dropping some bombs from 40,000 feet was going to a rip roaring sucess then they might like to think again.
Our very own wokey woke First Minister has refused to comment on the wisdom of the action. But already his country, our country is at war as the British military engage across the region. But aside of that just look 2as is happening.
The middle east is aflame. Bahrain, Oman, Dubai, Qatar, to mentiion only a few are under attack. The Straits of Hormuz are closed. Hundreds of thousands, many of whom are Brits are stranded across the middle east. And now yesterday Trump says the action will take a little longer. A month he says because that is just the way it is.
And the impacts. Well i am old enough to remember the 1970s oil crisis where oil pricecshocks cause rampant inflation of up to 30% per annum across the UK. Everything then, as indeed now runs on oil. Every thing from farm produces, to the delivery od food, clothes, consuner goods, to the extraction manufacture of condtruction products is through oil. And our cars, buses, taxis, ambulances, fire engines what do they run on. The supply of goods and services are disrupted and now we are to have another month.
Folks need to think about that because this is the reality. Pensioners with saving need to think about it. The economic and social impacts of the Israeli and American action look set to be absolutely huge. A reset perchance heading our way,
Its an interesting thought indeed for the currently hard if thinking or stubbornly somnolent of thinking. Its even a thought too about being at war. God bless our British troops as ever engaging in the good fight. Let us wish them well. Let us wish us all well. I fear we will need it.
Just a heads up….
I confess, I’m not really a fan of Tucker Carlson, but bear with it; I’ve just found the video below probably the most informative I seen for ages, which helps to understand what the fk is actually happening in the Middle East. It’s a wee bit long, but watch a bit then come back to it.
Are they all mad as a bunch of frogs? Yes, absolutely, but the madness of frogs is a global phenomenon with acute relevance.

In my opinion, this video is insightful in both ways; where this insanity stems from, and what happens next. Even if the missiles stopped tomorrow, Qatar is already saying their refineries are out of commission until they’re rebuilt. The ladder out of this pit is already a three stage.
Hats off and thanks to Mr Carlson… (even though I still don’t find him easy on the ear).
Scotland needs to get smart about this + fast. We’ve already had our own refinery “bombed” by Westminster, and Swinney is a feckless piece of *#!%. It’s time Scotland stopped being somebody else’s pawn. It’s not an election we need, it’s a defibrillator.
Breeks, why didn’t you take over YOURS FOR SCOTLAND?
